About the property

BEST VALUE for something truly nice in PLAYA GRANDE. Our fully furnished home provides a wonderful and relaxing getaway in a private, gated, quaint, laid back beach community separated from the congestion of Tamarindo. It is within a short 5 minute walk to a beautiful, pristine surfing beach, several great restaurants, bars, and a grocery. Tiled roof, floors and counter tops throughout. Relax on the covered patio where Iguanas and colorful birds perch and may be coaxed to eat from your hand (if you are patient enough). Monkeys often frequent our trees. Also, within walking distance, a beautiful estuary provides fishing, boating, and offers a water taxi which takes you on a 5 minute ride to Tamarindo for dining, dancing, gambling, shopping and souviners. You may also choose to walk to Tamarindo via the beach (possible only at very low tide) . Dual vanities in bathroom. Maid service twice per week. AWESOME BEACH!!!!! Two beach-cruiser type bicycles are included in your rental. Casa Mambo is close enough to the beach to hear the waves crashing when they are big! It is an easy and short walk to the beach from the house (or an even quicker bicycle ride). The architecture and appointments of Casa Mambo reflect the the style and culture of the local area and its people.

About Hank Townsend

I have been going to Costa Rica at least once a year since 1987 and continue to have a great love for this country and its people! Always look forward to my next trip to Playa Grande. My parents also love Playa Grande and stay at the house for a full month each year with many friends and family joining them periodically.

Hank Townsend purchased this villa in 1999

Why Hank Townsend chose Palm Beach Estates

Most pristine beach in all of Costa Rica in my opinion. Very laid back community which you will feel apart of very quickly. I hope you get to experience Casa Mambo.

What makes this villa unique

'feels like my own little Costa Rica home' as stated by one of our many regularly returning guests.

Our villa is one of six similar villas surrounding an outdoor swimming pool. The well kept grounds feature several exotic plants, coconut trees, bannana trees, bouganvilla and several fruit bearing trees. We have a full length partially covered terrace. All areas in the villa including the terrace have Saltillo tile flooring. The den has cable T.V. with a number of English speaking channels (Fox, CNN, Natl Geo., Animal planet, movies, etc.). There is also a DVD / CD player with stereo system. Shuttle service from airport to villa is available and only an approx 1 hour drive. Cars may be rented at airport or later from villa. There are several rental companies in Tamarindo who will deliver to and pick up cars at the villa. Maid service is 2 x per week. Pool and grounds keeper are full time. Surf Boards, boogie boards, etc. can be rented locally.

Casa Mambo is an awesome place!!

  • 5 of 5

Me and two buddies rented out Casa Mambo for two weeks and had a blast! The house was excellent and the maids were great too. We had air conditioning in each room which was just another great perk of this place! Would highly recommend for anyone who is looking for close proximity to the beach and world class surf. The waves are great all summer with off shore winds in the morning and barrels up and down the beach. The store is right next to the house and the food at both Restaurants (Los Malinches and The Great Wallitinis) is awesome. We can't wait to go back again next summer

Great property!

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this property, it was clean and comfortable. Great location, close to everything but still far enough away if one is wanting some seclusion. Kitchen is well equipped. If you can get to a local grocery store before that would be best as the store located near the property has limited items. Bedrooms are nice and clean, like others the bed was a bit hard for me. AC in bedrooms is a much appreciated comfort for sure! Bathroom was well stocked with towels, beach towels and a hairdryer! That was a nice surprise as we had packed beach towels not knowing for sure so don’t wasste luggage space! We loved the patio area, very cool in mornings and evenings and great place to relax. Lots of birds and other fun creatures to watch! Always felt safe in this neighborhood, we took many walks to the beach at night just to look at the stars (just remember a small flashlight) but never felt unsafe. Will return and would stay here again! Shawna was great and quick to respond to questions or needs!

The house was what we had hoped for and more!

  • 4 of 5

The house had plenty of room to relax and unwind. Kitchen fully stocked with pots and pans and a bbq to use on the patio. The pool was wonderful and the home was in a great area. The beach is so close and local bars and grocery stores were walking distance away. The only thing that I was not happy about was the drapes as they did not cover the height of the windows so at night people walking around the buildings could see right in which was not comfortable for me. The bedroom drapes were also see through and not private which again was concerning since other people staying in the other villas would use paths between the units as well has house cleaning staff and landscapers. That was a big deal as I wanted to undress without people being able to see in. The chairs on the patio are being held together by zip ties and our friend nearly fell through the chair being held together. The oven cook top was used but not the iven as it too was not looking very safe.

We wish there was a washer and dryer on the property too but other than that we had an overall great stay. Improvements with new window coverings and patio chairs that are safe would be nice but overall I would come back to Casa Mambo as it was an amazing stay. I would recommend this villa to others going to the Playa Grande area. We loved our vacation and the villa was a great stop on the first leg of our trip.

Comfortable home in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

Casa Mambo is a comfortable vacation home, built in the style typical for this area. Twice-a-week maid service keeps it spotlessly clean. The beautiful yard and well-maintained pool are a bonus. We're grateful for the bedroom air-conditioning, and ceiling fans in all rooms, as the mid-day heat can be oppressive. This was our second year staying here, and we're coming back next year, as it's a roomy home for two people, with plenty of room to host our daughters as well. The 2 bikes have received some welcomed maintenance, and we rode them daily on the beach.

Despite being in a group of 6 similar homes, noise has never been a problem, and neighbors have always been nice.

Hank, the owner, and Shawna, the property manager, are responsive and easy to work with. We're delighted to have found this place!

It a great spot. We have stayed in the barefoot bungalows on 3 difference trips.

  • 4 of 5

We have stayed in three different bungalows. Casa Mambo was fine. The only criticism we have is the bed is as hard as a rock. We took the cushions from the sitting area and put them on top of the mattress. People around the pool asked us how liked the beds, so obviously it is a common complaint that has not been adressed. We stayed in Casa Charlie last time, they has the same mattresses there as well.
