About Katelyn Gross
I am Betsey Burdett and I purchased the home in 2008. After 3 years of renovations it was finally ready for guests in 2010. My son Jared and I own and run the 30 year old family business, Southeast Exposure, a kayaking, small boat and ropes and zipline company. This year we have installed three auto belay devices on our climbing wall, and a Zipstop for the new Ocean Zip. We now have 9 ziplines. Bikes are also available for rent in town at 1224 Tongass. Betsey just returned from another section of her paddling around Florida. She also likes baking, skiing, and being a host!

Why Katelyn Gross chose Ketchikan
The home of Marjorie Voss and her dad and mom has been a landmark in the community of Ketchikan since the early 1900's. Marjorie was an active community member and especially loved her dog, writing and cooking. She was legally blind from her youth and used an old typewriter. She was active in the Tongass Conservation Society and also the Friends of the Library. All her pictures are kept at the Tongass Historical Museum in town. She donated her house to the library. I thought it could be turned into something special and decided to pursue her goal of sharing it with guests by purchased it from the city of Ketchikan in 2008. As everyone might imagine, it wound up being a project with many permits, details and required lots of $ and a positive attitude including Army Corps for the deck (the tide comes in under) I thought someday this will be complete and the most sought after short term downtown rental. I hope that business people and cruise line executives, employees, and small families will find the place as it is so close to the docks and downtown. You won't need a car.
What makes this Apartment unique
The house has a good comfortable feel to it and the house is set back off the street. Being downtown does have its advantages. There are museums, shopping, the USFS Discovery Center, Parnassas Books, Chinook and Company, Parnassus Books and many restaurants that you can walk to. Transportation is usually provided if you are going on tour, and there are cab companies, too. The Deer Mt. Trail is the 'local hike' and it is in great shape. These are some of the activities available from around town. Although we have no glaciers here, you just have to get out of town or out in our 'front yard' -that is, the water! There is an antique store next door, and a Lutheran Church next to that. It is near the docks if you like people watching.

The Voss House was the perfect place for us to stay in Ketchikan! Not only is the view of the water really great, but the sun room is such a calm and comfortable place from which to enjoy the view - it was my favorite place to do work that had to be done. I visit Ketchikan to see my grandchildren, and they like to stay with me when I'm there. This place provided comfortable accommodations, as well as the basic necessities of every day life. Not only the necessities were provided, but connections for entertainment and work, (internet and cable) made the stay even more suitable for us. Communications with those responsible for the rental were thoughtful as they provided plenty of clear information necessary to find and enter the Voss House. We had a slight hiccup with the internet, resulting in a quick response to my query. Maybe next time, we can take advantage of the benefits of renting the Voss House that we didn't get to take advantage of last time! I hope to stay here next time, too!
The Voss House property was wonderful! It was clean, comfortable, very modern, and in a prime location. It had every single comfort of home. You can tell that this home is loved and well cared for. This is the best VRBO that we have ever stayed in.
Great location, nice place.
Where to start? Well, the view. We spent a lot of time on the porch. Which brings us to the great set of directions left for us. I read four books, loved to learn about the house and its former owner, looked at her books and browsed the Alaska books. My sister had a broken leg and was in a wheelchair (she broke one leg and sprained the other ankle three days before our trip), but she got up and down with the help of crutches, hence porchtime. We fished for three days and ate a salmon dinner in your house. Thanks so much!
Great Stay. Perfect for our group!
We had four guys on a fishing trip. The house was comfortable, reasonably priced, and walking distance to restaurants and town.
Great location and cozy place. We were a group of 4 and were very comfortable during our stay. Much recommended.
