My husband and I spent four years of weekends completing construction of this beautiful log home. We love to share it with people who can appreciate the care and labor involved in every piece of lumber.
Beth Leydon purchased this cabin in 2008
We initially purchased the land for an investment, but it just seemed to call for a home. Not quite ready for retirement, it made sense to build with the goal of having room enough to share with travelers.
The location of the house gives one the illusion of being quite secluded, yet it's located in an active neighborhood that borders the south shore of Scotts Flat Lake. There are breathtaking views, wildlife and quiet serenity.
Perfect for our group visiting the Victorian Christmas. Best part: the gas fireplace
Lost Mine Retreat was a real "treat". What a lovely home. Our family had such a special time gathering for our pre-Christmas getaway. Thank you Beth and Michael for sharing your wonderful cabin with us.

Dear Beth, Enjoyed our stay at your cabin very nice and clean. Had a great time kayaking Scott's flat lake with a couple lady friends have stayed a couple times before and will return again. Thanks again, Kim
The owners were lovely to work with. The home is absolutly beautiful- decorated nicely, super clean, beds were comfy, the kitchen was a joy to cook in-- has anything you could need. The property is beautiful. We brought our two well travelled kiddos and the space was great for them as well.
We so enjoyed our stay here--especially loved quiet moments on your deck. Every thing is in top condition in kitchen and bathrooms which makes for comfort.
When we first pulled up in the black of night, the Perseid Meteor Shower had just started; and we knew it was going to be a good time. The cabin itself is fabulous, enough to hold eight guests without feeling crammed. The kitchen was so nice we decided to cook the entire time despite knowing there were some great restaurants in Nevada City.
While the location seems far from Nevada City, it really isn't and parts of the drive are beautiful. The lake was a little swampy when we went, and the mosquitos were everywhere; but it was 102 degrees and the kids had a great time!
Heed the warning of the owners! We did see a black bear come down the hill to our trash. Also deer and other wildlife walking through the trees bordering the cabin. If you're into nature but don't want to drive far, this is the perfect place!
Thank you! We'll be back again soon.
Nevada County was the site of the most prolific gold mining activity during the 1800's. It's historic sites offer museums, Empire Mine State Park, Malakoff Diggins State Park and charming historical districts of Nevada City and Grass Valley for shopping, wine tasting and antiquing. The region offers great hiking, mountain biking, rafting, kayaking, golf, tennis, sailing, fishing and more. There are cultural, musical and film festivals all year long at the Nevada County Fairgrounds and in town. Enjoy live theater and music at the Nevada Theatre; the oldest running theater in California! Access the fabulous Yuba River just outside of Nevada City for swimming, rafting, kayaking and hiking trails within the South Yuba River State Park. During the winter season, Grass Valley hosts Cornish Christmas and Nevada City offers Victorian Christmas festivals and abundant craft fairs. Both Nevada City and Grass Valley host season farmers markets.
