So you’re planning your trip to Seattle, eh? Well, not to brag but you couldn't do much better than Bootleggers Hideaway. The large apartment has off-street parking and is also 2 blocks from all Seattle's public transportation you could possibly need with the advantage that you're still in a neighborhood. You can walk to Lake Washington in about 15 minutes by following Mt Baker Blvd to McClellan Park. Thanks to my wife, there is a drawing of the apartment in my photos so you can get an idea of the space.
I've tried to make my rental property what I look for in a place when traveling, clean, tidy, comfortable, reasonably priced, and fun.
I now only list on the VRBO partner sites because I like to be able to communicate with my guests directly before they pay and these websites are better to their hosts.
Bootleggers Hideaway is a 2 bedroom apartment. Here are the deets:
Sleeps up to 6 (could maybe accommodate extra kiddos if they shared beds)
2 Blocks from Link Light Rail-Mt Baker Station
1 Off-street parking spot (+street parking)
2 Bedrooms with Queen beds
For sleeping extra people: 1 Twin Bed, 1 Double Sleeper sofa, 2 shikibuton futon mattresses, a pack and play
1 Full Bathroom
Kitchen and Utensils
Laundry Available for $2/Wash and $2/Dry
Experience a wonderful historic Seattle neighborhood! (And in my humble opinion the best neighborhood in the city—what can I say I’m biased)
The apartment is spacious and airy and gets great daylight. I strive to create a home-like atmosphere.
The apartment is close to everything but it's quiet at night. The neighborhood of Mt. Baker is very diverse, both in the people who live here and the activities available to you. I wasn’t kidding when I said this is my favorite neighborhood in Seattle. You can walk to Lake Washington, cycle all over the city from the apartment, access public transportation to nearly all of the city, there are restaurants and adorable Columbia City about 1 mile south (a decent walk to build your appetite should you be so inclined). Bootleggers Hideaway is about 5 blocks from the Mount Baker Community Club, a popular wedding venue- and where Daphne and I got married- we walked to our wedding!
Also, another feature of the neighborhood is that you’re just south of downtown, which means less traffic both getting into, and away from downtown or more congested areas of Seattle.
Bootleggers Hideaway was named in honor of the first owners of the property in the 20s. The Gatt brothers were bootleggers and owned a jazz club called the Monte Carlo in Pioneer Square. There’s a house history in each unit detailing the history of the property, neighborhood, and house. You’ll be two blocks from the Mt. Baker light rail station (the main reason I purchased this property) which will get you downtown to the in about 12 minutes, and to the airport in less than 25 min. You wouldn't need a car, but in addition to the parking spot in the driveway there is regulated zoned street parking.
QFC, Safeway, Starbucks, and cute Italian eatery, Mio Posto are all in easy walking distance.
Gorgeous trails and swimming at Lake Washington (Mt. Baker beach) also within walking distance.
No smoking. Wireless internet included.
Check in is 4pm, check out is at 11am.
When you book you'll receive access to the mobile hospitality manager on VRBO/HomeAway.
I look forward to hosting you!
I've been teaching yoga for 10 years and have my own studio located in Columbia City. It's called Tiger Lily Yoga. I'm a member of a nearby p-patch community garden and harvest many of my own veggies and medicinal herbs. I am also a writer studying memoir and creative essay. I enjoy cycling and outdoorsy stuff. I am gay and my wife and I live in the upper portion of the house.
Emily Iverson purchased this apartment in 2005
The location couldn't be better. Close to I-5, I-90, Mt. Baker Light Rail Station, Mt. Baker Transit Station, Close to your family in the south end of Seattle, off-street parking, Safeway, QFC, PCC. You can take Light Rail to the stadiums for games, restaurants, Columbia City is 1 mile south, shopping, tourist sights, Lake Washington, Perfect location! Also, the apartment is big.
Accessible by car or public transit, easy cycling to the north, east, west, and south, walking distance to Lake Washington, walk to Seafair festivities, urban hikes through Coleman Park. Seward Park, a more wild and woodsy Greenlake is nearby. No cleaning fees!
We stayed at Bootleggers Hideaway for 4 nights so we could be close to our daughter and now daughter-in-law for their wedding. There were 4 adults and a toddler in the apt, it was perfect for us. Emily recently put a pack n play, and high chair in the apt as well as a television. We walked to the club house for the wedding and could easily walk to the QFC for groceries. One night we walked to Columbia City to catch a movie at the small theater there. The location is so convenient and Emily is a wonderful host. We'll definitely be back next time we're in town.
My trip was with my sister in law and 2 small children. Having the 2 bedrooms worked perfectly and the location was excellent and out of the way of the normal busy Seattle life! It was easy to get to anywhere we wanted to go from there. It was quiet and comfortable and I will definietly stay there again :) This location would work for anyone traveling to the Seattle area.
Owner was responsive but not as helpful as expected per previous reviews. I asked about local car rental suggestions and was referred to Google. Personal local input would have been appreciated. Additionally, location is a little sketchy, I wouldn't walk alone at night. Having said that, we arrived earlier than check-in time of 4pm, and I asked owner if we can drop off our luggage at the apartment. We were offered to place our luggage outside under carport next to the street. Not a very mindful suggestion by owner and we were quite surprised that it was even suggested; should we have left our luggages there, we would be without our belongings upon return that day. While we appreciate the opportunity to save money if we cleaned the unit prior to our departure, the instructions were overwhelming and posted such that you saw it daily which was annoying. Friendlier service would have been welcomed, owner seemed a little cold. If you're looking for a cheap place (basic apartment with basic necessities) close to the city and don't mind bare minimum customer service in a sketchy neighborhood, this is the place to be.
We had a great stay. The beds were comfortable and the place was quiet. We were away most of the time and just wanted a comfortable place to sleep. The apartment is a converted basement apartment and the hosts live upstairs. They seemed mindful that there were downstairs guests and were pretty quiet. We look forward to staying again!
When we travel we prefer the comfort and convenience of VRBO's. Bootleggers was no exception It was spacious and well appointed, just as presented on the web site. The beds were so comfortable. We really appreciated Seattle and Emily's promotion of recycling/composting. Also appreciated the opportunity to save on the cleaning fee. I would definitely recommend bootleggers to friends and family.
While in Seattle we parked our car in the driveway when we arrived, and never moved it. We took the light rail downtown both days. The Emerald City Trolley, Beneath the Streets Underground Tour, Chiluly's glass exhibition, Iver's Seafood Restaurant, Pioneer Square, the Waterfront, Starbucks in the Columbia Tower, Elm Street Coffee Roasters, King Street Amtrak Station were all attractions well worth seeing.
I would definitely recommend Bootlegger's Hideaway.

This very attractive, spacious apartment was perfect for our week in Seattle. Our queen bed was very comfortable, and the sheets and comforter were high quality, as were the towels. The 2nd bedroom had a queen bed, as well as a twin. Both rooms were large enough to accommodate suitcases, yet still had lots of floor space. We cooked breakfast every morning, with a full stove, cooking equipment, fridge, sufficient counter space, coffee pot, and electric kettle. Although Seattle set a heat record one day, our apartment was cool! We were grateful for the washer, dryer, and detergent in the apartment, the easy 2-block walk to the light-rail station, the grocery store being only 4 blocks away, the readily available Uber drivers, the bright lights over the bathroom mirror, the TV and Roku, the home-made soap, the art on the walls, the plants in the windows, the ease of a keypad entry. Emily responded quickly to my emails, answering my questions and providing lots of info about everything we needed. We enjoyed 2 delicious meals at Bar del Corso, however, we recommend Uber, rather than walking up the steep Beacon Hill, to get there. We also liked Daphne's suggestion-BluWater- for the fish and the location on Lake Washington (Uber). We were all quite pleased with this first experience with a VRBO apartment!
House is 2 blocks east of Mt. Baker Light Rail Station, Mt. Baker Transit Center. Urban hiking, historical neighborhood walks, Seward Park, Nearby Parks designed by Olmstead Brothers, grocery, and shopping.
