About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Loft + Den, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6 adults)

Whether you’re looking for a romantic weekend getaway or a family vacation, we’re confident “Mohican Shores” is the right place for you. This cozy cabin is located in a secluded area on a main channel of High Rock Lake, the second largest lake in North Carolina. A lakefront view is included in most any of our rooms. The two bedrooms and upstairs loft can comfortably sleep six adults. In addition, there is a pull-out oversized chair (Single) and two cots that could also provide three additional sleeping accommodations. The main room is surrounded by windows giving you a majestic, panoramic view of the lake. Sit in one of our cushioned rocking chairs on the deck and enjoy the spectacular sunsets of “Mohican Shores”. The cabin also has a wrap-around front porch, a stone, wood-burning fire place, and exterior fire pit to enjoy on those chilly nights under the stars. Guests have use of a canoe, paddle-boat and private dock. Feel free to bring your own boat and put it in the water at nearby access areas. For those who prefer the coolness of a mountain vacation, there is plenty of shade and a constant breeze off the lake most days. Picnics, cookouts or dining by the camp fire are one of the many options available. Dine out at any of the three waterfront restaurants on the lake, accessible by boat or car. Swimming is relaxing with plenty of deep water in front of the dock. Wear a life jacket , recline on a float or ride a flotating cushion or noodle. Stay cool while you think about your friends at work. Let those hot, humid, lazy days of summer be a refreshing memory on High Rock Lake this year. Enjoy the many types of fishing while here. High Rock Lake is a relatively shallow lake with many types of offshore structure. These points, humps and rock formations create excellent habitat for this lake's abundant population of game fish. High Rock is well known both locally and nationally as the home of the 1994, 1995, and 1998 “Bass- masters Classic Bass Tournament”. Bass fishermen from all over the nation know the area as the 'Crank-bait Capital of the World'. While the largemouth bass is perhaps the most well-known game fish in High Rock, it is certainly not the only one found in abundance. White bass, hybrid bass, monster catfish, bream, crappie, carpe and pike are also found here. If you enjoy swinging a club, there are many courses to choose from in our locale. McCanless and Corbin Hills Golf Courses are located off Bringle Ferry Road about 15 minutes from our cabin; Crescent Golf course is located off Jake Alexander Boulevard. Ask for additional information. Do you enjoy a faster pace? Then tennis may be your sport. Tennis courts are located at Dan Nicholas Park , about 8 miles from our cabin. Dan Nicholas Park is a great place to spend the morning, afternoon or all day. It is located on Bringle Ferry Road. Wildlife Viewing for those of us who enjoy the marvels of nature. Cranes, large red-headed wood peckers, deer, red fox, wild turkeys and owls roam the wooded and not so wooded areas near our cabin. Imagine your suprise (and theirs) as you 'happen' across the path of these special creatures....especially in the evening and just before dusk. One of the finest exhibits of animals in their natural habitat is located nearby. The North Carolina Zoo/Wildlife park is located only 45 minutes away in Asheboro, NC. Dan Nicholas Wildlife Center, 8 miles away also offers paddle boat rentals

About Margaret Rusher

• Maggie and Ed Rusher, owners, live in Salisbury and enjoy the privacy and solitude of our 'Mohican Shores' home when we “need to get away.” We enjoy traveling, entertaining family and friends, working outside, playing with our grandchildren and pets, walking, watching sports and any type of water activity.

Margaret Rusher purchased this house in 2000

Why Margaret Rusher chose North Carolina

•We chose to purchase our lakefront vacation retreat at “Mohican Shores” because it is a combination of our love of the mountains and the absolutely breath-taking views of the water. Located only 17 miles from Salisbury, we are able to enjoy our cabin most weekends and many weekdays.

What makes this house unique

Ed and Maggie enjoy a cup of fresh hot coffee or tea in the early morning as we walk down to our dock. The scenic lake is calm and peaceful. A perfect place for meditation and reflection upon our many blessings. Life is always better at the lake. Sometimes our solitude is interrupted as the fish leap out of the water in the early mornings. The amount of artifical light is limited in our location. Thus, allowing better visualization of shooting stars and other celestial bodies. The stars just seem more vibrant here. The cabin is in a very natural setting; much of the area is undeveloped.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Maggie and Ed – what a wonderful time we had at your cabin!!.. We were overwhelmed with the hospitality that you extended to us. You really treat your guests great. We were overwhelmed with the setting, your home and the view which is absolutely one of the best on the lake. It was a much needed vacation for us and the fishing was excellent. Our son, 26 who lives with us, and is the fisherman in the family was very impressed – especially with the boat mooring system you have on your dock. This was a 10 for us – Many thanks for treating us so specially and for sharing your home!

Fantastic View, very well cared for Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay very much at Mohican Shores. The owners are very friendly and quick to answer any questions. Kitchen is well stocked and the view of the lake is amazing! This truly is a home away from home and has been well taken care of. The cabin is very roomy inside and there is lots of outdoor space as well.

The perfect Lake Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 thoroughly enjoyed our week here. We spent our days fishing and floating and evening cooking and playing board & card games. Maggie is the consummate hostess and took exceptional care of us. We arrived and found popsicles in the freezer, sparkling cider and muffins for brunch and other treats. What a thoughtful surprise! The cabin is perfectly secluded - off the beaten path. There was minimal lake traffic despite being the week of July 4th. The kitchen was well-stocked - something that's important to us because we like to cook. There were plenty of linens, pillows, towels, wash cloths, etc. The talking & singing mounted deer head was hilarious - he cracked jokes and sang Willie Nelson. Ha! (You can turn him on and off). The blue gill never stop biting right off the deck. One day we visited High Rock Lake Marina to rent a pontoon boat for the day. $140 for 4 hrs. - it was so much fun! The kids working there were so kind and helpful. They have a snack bar with ice cream. Its a great place to grab a burger and supplies.

Many thanks to Maggie for her hospitality. We hope to return.

Beautiful, peaceful lake getaway

  • 5 of 5

We don't want to give this place great reviews, because we want to keep this gem for ourselves! The photos don't do it justice. We've enjoyed many properties all around NC, but we've never felt so much like guests, rather than renters. The owners' touches of hospitality are so welcoming. The home is very well kept, organized, and very comfortable. The lake view is gorgeous, and the lake was very quiet and peaceful. We really enjoyed using the canoe and paddle boat, though the paddle boat is hard to steer and one of the seat-backs is broken. Fishing was pretty good, too. There were a lot of harmless insects hanging out around the dock, but they didn't bite or sting, just took a little getting used to. We loved stargazing while sitting around the fire pit, and we wanted it to be colder so we could use the indoor fireplace, maybe next time, but we enjoyed the hot tub. We were okay without wifi and had some cell phone signal issues, but we enjoyed the escape. We're looking forward to going back!

Beautiful Lake House Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Spectacular views of the lake by day and starry night from the cozy hot tub. Plenty of room for family. All the amenities you need for cooking and enjoying a relaxing time. Quiet, private, clean and comfy. Welcome package was a delightful touch, Maggie! My young adult daughters suggested we make our trip an annual event at this treasure of a home. Thank you for sharing - allowing for this wonderful getaway!

Relaxing Lakefront Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Maggie and Ed,

Thank you so much for opening your house to me and my husband for our first anniversary. It was absolutely perfect. We loved the large great room with all of the windows and views of the lake and nature around us. The cream cheese danish was delicious and very much appreciated. Unfortunately, we can't control the weather with Hurricane Matthew decided he wanted to celebrate with us but even with the storm the hot tub felt just as good. The kitchen was very well stocked and had everything we need and more and the grill worked great for our burgers. We loved the seclusion of the house being at the end of the road with only two neighbors that we could barely see with all the nature/trees in between the houses. Just as your said, "Wolf dog" did pay us a visit upon our arrival, walked around our truck and walked back home. My husband and I will loved the house and can't wait to make our next reservation. As nice as the pictures are of the house/lake it does not do the house and lake any justice for how pretty the area really is.

Aimee and Chris
