Hale Makala – a favorite home for many – the perfect blend of traditional plantation style with modern open design. This incredible property is located right across from Hanalei Bay on coveted Weke Road – just stepping outside you’re only a few yards from the island’s most famous beach. Take advantage of your proximity by watching sunrises and sunsets, strolling along the soft sands before the crowds come to soak up the sun, or simply enjoy watching the sky slowly blend its pastel pinks into deeper blues from the prominent windows of your house, which gives access to incredible views of the shoreline and the distant mountains laced with waterfalls.  

The home features 3 bedrooms (King, King, 2 doubles), 2 ½ baths (shower, tub/shower). Beautiful hardwood floors in living, dining and kitchen areas; carpeting for comfort in all three bedrooms.

There are two master bedrooms: one has access to the front lanai and the other with its own private lanai and bath. Both feature king-sized TempurPedic beds.

A well-stocked kitchen features a large central cooking island for plenty of counter space and ease of preparing delicious island-style dishes (make sure to take advantage of the twice-weekly Hanalei farmer’s markets and natural food store in the Hanalei village!) Eat indoors in the formal dining area or step out onto the wonderful covered lanai – sliding french doors open right off the kitchen to the teak dining set provided.

The entire home is fronted by a wooden lanai or patio replete with white wooden lounge chairs shaded by the overhanging roof and an outside dining area to take full advantage of the natural setting. What could be nicer?

Includes high speed internet with wifi, DVD, washer/dryer, cable TV, and gas barbecue.

5 night minimum stay; other minimum stay may apply seasonally. As with most homes on Kauai, this vacation rental is not air conditioned.

Just a short note to tell you how much we enjoyed our stay in your beautiful home. Not only did we come to Kauai to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary with our children, but it was also Passover. It was the most unusual setting for our Seder. We were surprised and delighted to see the mezuzahs throughout the house. Chag Sameach and thank you!

Wonderful experience!

This was the perfect vacation rental for me, my husband, and 4 friends! The house was even better than advertised. Everything was clean, the kitchen was well-equipped, the beds were comfortable, and the beach access was super close.

The house is located between the two closest public beach access points to Hanalei Bay, each just a short walk. We visited several beaches on the island and decided Hanalei Bay was our favorite! We were pleasantly surprised to find a ton of beach gear (towels, chairs, umbrella, boogie boards, kayak, snorkels) already at the house, which saved us money on rentals.

We loved eating meals together on the lanai! You can listen to the ocean while you have coffee and admire the gorgeous landscaping. Big Save grocery store and other local shops are just a short walk or drive away.

Just to let you know we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hale Makal in Kauai.

The house was great, very well equipped, clean and in a great location.

Would definitely rent again if visiting Kauai.

Amazing and beautiful

This house was amazing and beautiful! It was our first time going to Kauai and we loved Hanalei Bay. The house is only a short 5 minute walk to the public beach access and it's a perfect location. You are also a half mile away from the downtown area that has shopping and restaraunts to enjoy. Everything you need you can find there. You can walk or drive and the street can get busy and there's no sidewalk so be careful. On this trip we had 7 adults no children. The house was advertised as sleeping 8. But that's only true if you put two people in each double bed so for us that was a disappointment and the couch is not a pullout so one of us slept on the couch in the living room which can be hard for that one individual since they had to be the last one to go to bed and the first one up. There were a few things we noticed about the house and one was the lock was very difficult to lock and unlock. We had to have someone come out and repair it the next day. Second there is no AC so make sure you are ok with this. Thirdly, the toilet in the bathroom that connects to the bedroom with the king size bed runs constantly. But overall it was very nice, comfortable and close to what we wanted. The bedrooms and bathrooms were nice and a good size. The kitchen and deck had to be my favorite things though...the yard is beautifically landscaped and manicured and it's so peaceful sitting outside. We did get eaten up a bit by the mosquitos so get some bug spray or citronella candle for sure! We would return to stay here again and would recommend family and friends. Also the agency was a pleasure to work with and made it so easy and were very responsive to all of our questions.

I’m very sorry that one of your party had to sleep on the couch, but I hope they were comfortable. We indicate the bedding in the house and I apologize if the arrangements weren’t clear. We’re glad that you were satisfied with the responsiveness of our services. We fixed the sticky lock while you were here and the owner has ordered a new toilet. Most homes on Kauai don’t have air conditioning, relying on the usually mild climate and trade winds for comfort. Since we’re in the tropics it’s certainly a good idea to bring insect repellent. We offer a 10% discount to repeat guests, so please let us know when you are ready to return to our beautiful island. We’d love to have you visit again!
