Why Peggy Jones chose San Marcos

San Marcos is a wonderful place to live and visit. Whether you are coming for a extended business travel, a visiting professor, a special event, tubing the rivers, or shopping at the outlet mall, this is a perfect choice for extended stay.

This is a 5000 sf building constructed in 1967 and historically occupied with 3 two bedroom apartments upstairs and commercial space downstairs. I purchased the property in 2012, remodeling the upstairs and dividing the downstairs into three units, one of which is my office, as part of a complete renovation. It is less than a city block to the river and the outdoor stage where Sights and Sounds is held each year. There is only one block between the apartment and the university campus. It is an easy stroll to Strahan Coliseum, the Performing Arts Theater, downtown square, grocery, and some of the best restaurants San Marcos has to offer.

What makes this apartment unique

This apartment is tastefully furnished with a German Castle motif. It is an elegant alternative for a professional visiting the area on an extended stay.

I travel about 20 weekends a year, stay at many resorts and never have I been struck the way I was.

The place is beautiful inside, totally breathe taken when I first walked in. The location is great, walking distance from the river, parks, restaurants and shops. The 2 bedrooms are clean and private. The kitchen and dining area has room for all of us to hang out without having to climb around each other; space is not an issue. I will refer my family, friend and clients to check it out.

Great Little Treasure

The construction was annoying BUT that had nothing to do with the apartment. Location was perfect, very clean, spacious, felt safe and comfy. No carpet was extremely nice as well, so we felt comfortable bringing our small dog and enjoyed walks around the town with her. Will definitely stay again!

A Surprising Little Jewel

First, Peggy has been an excellent and accessible hostess! It was easy to find the building and enter the apartment. Parking is provided and the location is fantastic - close to TSU, the river, and downtown.

Upon entering, we found a spacious and well-appointed apartment. We even had a couple family members join us here for dinner and sports on TV. Everything was very comfortable!

There is building construction nearby but this would probably not be an issue on the weekend and Peggy is very protective of her property.

I highly recommend this apartment for a San Marcos visit!

Absolutely wonderful!

It was beautiful! We came to visit our daughter attending Texas State university and the place was right around the corner from them. Plenty of room to relax and in the middle of all the great stuff. We'll definitely be back!

Horrible, Awful Experience & Insensitive, Greedy Owner

My experience with this property has actually turned me away from using VRBO completely. The only reason it has 1 star is you can't review a property and give it 0.

Directly outside the front door of the apartment there is heavy construction, which creates a lot of noise during the day. They are constructing a brand new building. Then there were deliveries of materials after the normal construction work day. Then to finish out my evening at this property the skating place (I believe) started playing very loud techno music. The music started at 9 and continued to 11 when I left for a hotel. Behind this apartment there is an alley that with the techno music brought people through the alley skateboarding and smoking marijuana. Although I understand the owner has no control of the alley, this information in the description would have encouraged me to seek other options.

Upon notifying the owner of my experience I found her to be responsive, but unwilling to empathize. She noted in her communication to me that she was aware of the construction as it has been going on since 2012. This construction should have been mentioned in the description of the property.

When I asked for her to refund the 2 nights I was not planning on using she was unwilling to do so nor was she willing to make any compromise. Despite all the noise issues that she clearly knew about prior to my stay. Her description calls this place an "upscale hotel", ALL upscale hotels (even low scale hotels) will refund any part of your stay that is not used or that a customer is not happy with.

I have notified VRBO about the inaccuracies in the description of this property and I have made a formal complaint and requested an inspection of this listing. The description of this property is lacking many key details in regards to its location.

There was also a concert in the park which created noise, but this was not at all a problem for me and in my opinion a completely reasonable use of extraneous noise. In the response from the owner she eluded to the fact I was unreasonably complaining about a concert in the park. When I responded the concert in the park was not the issue, it was the techno music all hours during the night that was of primary concern I did not receive any other response from her. Even the construction, although I feel should have been noted in the description of the property, would not have forced me to alternate accommodations.

Owner's Response: Dear Jennifer, This apartment is downtown in a vibrant Univerity town. I accepted your reservation, making special accommodations for a pet that I would not normally take. This was an annual festival weekend called Swing Fest. I turned down two other reservation requests within a day of taking yours. People coming to downtown San Marcos usually come knowing this is across the street from the main event park where events and yes, music is played on an outdoor stage. San Marcos is one of fastest growing towns of its size in the United States and therefore, there is continual construction in the area and several projects have been completed in the last 5 years. I did not refund because the music is controlled by city ordinance and the construction is also out of my control. The only thing I can control is the interior and it is very well maintained to very high standards. You notified me of problems the next day after you had left without giving me the benefit to address the noise concerns. The description is "Enjoy the amenities of an upscale hotel room with the conveniences of an apartment. Satellite and WiFi included." I make no assertions that this is an upscale hotel. This short term rental has received almost all 4/5 stars because people appreciate a nice place to stay downtown within convenient walking distance to downtown attractions, the University, stadium and coliseum. It's a great alternative to the hotels on the Interstate. I continue this accommodation to satisfy them instead of having all units in the building rented on 12 month leases. I have not given you a bad review as a customer. I appreciate your feedback.

Great apartment inside

Very comfortable 2 bedroom space. Missing the wifi information and instructions to relook the front door. Unfortunately both nights the neighbors upstairs had a party very late into the night. Very close to the Square in San Marcos.

Luxury Apartment is just a stroll from all your favorite San Marcos locations! The river, square, school, night life, living necessities!

This is the middle unit downstairs next to the office. The gorgeous granite counters are black and the bar is Texas State red. The vessel sink in the bathroom is a sparkling green and gold on black granite. Beautiful tiled floors throughout! It is tastefully furnished with relaxed lodge style furnishings, leather sofa, as well as, leather dining chairs. The smallest detail has been considered.
