About Rollin M. Lunders

We moved to the mountains of Colorado in 1974, fell in love with all it has to offer and have made it our cherished home. Here we raised our two children who are amazing young adults now. Over the years we built our house, 2-story garage with guest room and barn and have treated the land with care. Skiing, hiking, gardening, raising our own beef, landscaping the property and enjoying our dog and cat keep life interesting. To that, we add traveling both afar and near with all the variety that is in the Four Corners.

Yes, we find time to pursue our careers. Rollin is a self-employed consulting geologist and Robin is an educator.

Rollin M. Lunders purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Rollin M. Lunders chose Mancos

We purchased the cabin in fall 2010 from our friend George and his family who used it as a vacation getaway. George and his wife Margaret built this log cabin at the same time we created our home so we had a lot in common and enjoyed seeing them when they or their family members came to get away from it all. Since buying the cabin we have been working hard and having fun getting it ready to be a vacation rental. Much refinishing and insulating to make it winter worthy. In 2015 we remodeled the one room bunkhouse and added a bathroom, kitchenette, and deck, turning it into a compact uniquely crafted 2nd cabin. We live just a short walk away and enjoy offering this comfortable vacation property for your next getaway into nature. We are located in beautiful Echo Basin by the entrance of the San Juan National Forest with the Echo Basin Loop Drive. We are a five-mile drive from Mancos, Colorado with nearby Mesa Verde National Park, Ute Mountain Tribal Park and so many other exciting and interesting destinations.

What makes this cabin unique

We love to relax on the shaded porch with a cool drink while watching the deer, listening to the birdsong and watching a gorgeous sunset. In the fall the aspen and Gambel oak trees in the area afford an amazing color show. Whether you are in the area for outdoor sports activities, sightseeing or just relaxing, the cabin is a great place to stay.

Exceeded my expectations

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is great and in a perfect location. It is located off a back road in the woods so you’re nice and secluded yet there is a small town 5 minutes away where you can grab all the groceries you need and a bite to eat. Durango is an easy drive too if you want to visit a larger town. Perfect location to be in nature but still be close enough to town. Rollin is an excellent host we arrived to a plate of cookies and the wood stove already going so the cabin was warm. (We stayed in January) The cabin has everything you need including all cookware, bedding, towels and plenty of already split fire wood. Can’t put into words how much we enjoyed our stay, would highly recommend this place to anyone.

This is a cozy, clean cabin perfect for a family as a get away in a beautiful part of Colorado.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for 3 nights spending much of our time at the cabin on the front porch enjoying the deer and the birds. The cabin is clean and comfortable with laundry and a kitchen to prepare some simple meals. Our days were spent in nearby Mesa Verde, Mancos and Durango. There is much to do in this area. One evening we attended Native American Dance and Music at the Cultural Center of Cortez. We loved the variety of shops (including the artists) , cafes and restaurants in Mancos as well as the history of the area and in Durango there is the Silverton Train, zip lining and white water rafting.

Beautiful area, cozy cabin

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this cozy, comfortable cabin. The area is beatiful, and we saw a lot of wildlife, including a mother bear and her two cubs (just a short distance from the cabin), deer and fawns, many birds. The cabin itself is very clean if a little worn, and well equipped. Be aware that there is another rental cabin very near this one, so that you will probably hear them if your windows are open.

Escape from the city

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed our stay at the cabin. We had just the right amount of room for the 4 of us. Our boys and their stuffed animals were excited to stay in their own room. The cabin was clean and comfortable. We would stay again!
