Enjoyable Stay at Fillmore Hill

  • 5 of 5

We had a very enjoyable stay at the property. The kitchen was well stocked and we cooked in several nights. Several of the days were quite hot, but we were very comfortable in the air conditioned house. The king bed was comfortable. One of the best things about this property is the responsiveness of the owners. They got back to me immediately every time I contacted them. We enjoyed walking around the neighborhood with our dog. Great location!

Relaxing retreat in Eugene's southwest hills.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I booked Fillmore House to escape a remodel at home. The house is in a quiet neighborhood with a fenced front yard that kept our older dog happy. It also has a great view of College Hill. The interior is spotless with an open concept living, dining, and kitchen. We had 3 people over for dinner (5 total) and there was plenty of living and dining seating. There is a good commercial area close by (28th and Willamette) with restaurants, grocery, and specialty foods. Albertson's is about 4 blocks away. It is also pretty close (driving) to the Wayne Morse Ranch Dog Park which is a must if you bring your pet. The backyard abuts Chambers (a busy street) so there is some traffic noise. It is still very private and quite nice. We'd definitely stay here again.

Lovely house, great owner

  • 5 of 5

We were there for the eclipse. We were worried that we'd get stuck in traffic and not get to the best viewing area on time. Josh, the owner, gave us great ideas about country roads north from Eugene. We had an unhurried and low-traffic ride to the center of totality and in general had a great experience.

Adequate

  • 2 of 5

The good: location suited us well - near my sister's home. The living area is large and open and can easily handle 6 adults. The kitchen, floors and fireplace have been nicely updated with nice kitchen appliances. The mattresses are decent. The WiFi works well.

Not so good: bathrooms have no ventilation and are quite dated. The master bath could use more counter space. The third bedroom has no drawer storage and the closet is unusable. Apparently they had their laundry in it and just left all the shelving and it is full of "stuff". The other closets have "stuff" as well, but some part was usable. The garage isn't available (more "stuff") and you park on quite a steep driveway - careful if there are seniors or handicapped. The rear of the property backs up to a busy road and it is noisy outside and in the master bedroom. The front door could easily be kicked in by an intruder - not very secure. They apparently removed a wall around the kitchen and the ceiling is patched very poorly with different textures and paint - very noticeable. Apparently they couldn't afford six matching chairs for the dining table, so two are cheap plastic. Also couldn't fix the dining sideboard leg, so it is held up by a 2x4 block of wood. Ants are certain if anything sweet is left on the kitchen counter.

Really annoying: no knobs on any of the kitchen drawers and one cabinet door. Overgrown shrub and flower pots by the front door - always love an obstacle course when handling fifty pound suitcases. Charcoal grille, not propane, and of course it was filled with ashes. Paid for cleaning. Under counter bin was overflowing with empty glass bottles upon our arrival. The picnic table seating bench was coated with crayon and chalk and couldn't be used. Refrig shelves had crumbs and spills. No Mp3 or music capability. The garbage cans in front of the garage helps with curb appeal.

This could be a nice home with some additional investment to fix the shortcomings, a clean-out of junk and "stuff", and some caring owners that take pride in it and set it up properly for travelers.

Owner's Response: Hi Kenneth, We take great pride in our home and a little communication goes a long way. If you were dissatisfied with the accommodations upon arrival we would have happily refunded your money, helped you find new accommodations and fixed "the stuff" all over the home and in the closets. My wife, child and I live a stones throw away and this is the first complaint we heard from you. I will agree that we missed cleaning out the bottles under the sink, that is my fault. I'm sorry this was not taken care of. I've removed this receptacle from the home. To me, this must have been a snowball effect for you and your guests for a bad experience with our home, and for that I am sorry. To address the issues you have so kindly pointed out that were not up o your expectations - *Two of the original chairs broke - we replaced with two mid-century style World Market "plastic" single molded, with metal frame chairs. They might not be as soft or wide, but they are nice chairs. To say we can't afford matching chairs is childish - sorry they were not a "matching set" *Bathrooms were updated in 2013 - new tile, new paint, new vanity, new fixtures, new toilets. Shower and tub are original - ventilation - there is a fan in the main bathroom - switch is located behind the toilet. Their is a window in the master bathroom that allows for ventilation. For size in the master bathroom - we worked with the space we had - i'm also sorry this size was not up to your standard *Front door is a deadbolt - this is the first time I've heard a complaint about this - I'll look into something more beefier. *Chambers street in the backyard is a busy road, I agree - that is why we have attempted to make our front yard enjoyable as it has a view and a fence. I'm sorry the "overgrown shrubs" and flower pots, with flowers, caused an issue with you able to move luggage into the home. *Stuff in the closets - Master room - Portable AC unit in case someone likes it really cool. 2nd Room, same. 3rd Room - it's more of a storage closet for extra sheets and towels, in case you wanted to use them in your stay. I'm sorry that all rooms did not have a dresser. Thanks for the potshots on the kitchen remodel and our home. I'm sure I missed something else...A phone call or some form of communication could have fixed your experience. Too little, too late. All the best - Josh and Laura.

Beautiful house, clean and spacious. The view was wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

The house was beautiful and clean. Everyone slept like babies on those beds! The kitchen had what we needed and was large and clean.

Sitting out front and looking at the view was very relaxing and quite a treat. The neighborhood was very nice and the nearby market, Market of Choice, wish we had one of those at home!

Cons? Need more comfy furniture in the living room and pillows in the beds. And we needed instructions for the heater, it was hit and miss. But other than those two, we have this house on our favorites now and will be going back again and again when we all go up as a family!!
