Overview

About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Sleeper sofa+ Futon, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Experience Door County's most beautiful view all day long at this true log cabin located on the waterfront of famous Death's Door Passage. With views of Plum Island lighthouse, Pilot Island lighthouse, and Northport Ferry Dock all from the porch of this quaint cottage, the only view more impressive than the islands scattered across the pristine blue waters by day is the sea of bright shining stars spanning the northern skies overhead by night. Sink into your chair and watch the ferry boats cross the channel to Washington Island well into the night before stepping outside to catch satellites and shooting stars which are regularly gazed upon from this site on clear nights. By day, either enjoy a swim in the clean waters of Lake Michigan off a stone beach in front of the cabin or jump on a ferry from Northport to enjoy a fun filled day exploring Washington Island or Rock Island, both memorable experiences. The Northport Ferry Dock is less than a five minute walk away from this location. The Bell Cabin is perfect for a family, couple, or group of friends looking to get away from the tourist traps in the busy towns and to take in the true nature of Door County's treasures. With a large flagstone porch off the water, the 'backyard' (or off-water side) is a perfect location for grilling and campfires. Between the beach, lake, and wilderness, kids of all ages will have no problem finding many adventures to fill their days and create memories that will last a lifetime. The cabin is located a few miles car ride or bike form Gill's Rock where you can find provisions as well as sight seeing cruises, dive boats, and fishing charters. Also located in Gills Rock is a coffee house, gift shops, and The Shoreline, another great restaurant with an unbeatable view of the sun setting over Green Bay during dinner hours.

The cabin itself is centered around a large stone wood burning fireplace. Behind the fireplace is the main bedroom which includes a double bed, two dressers, and a full fold down futon. In front of the fireplace there is full fold-out couch which can also sleep two adults or is perfect for kids. If further bed space is needed, there is another fold out couch on the porch which overlooks the water and lighthouses.

Many tell stories of vacations to Baileys Harbor, Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, or Sister Bay and the wonderful times they have had in Door County, but few have ever traveled far enough North to experience the full wonders of this amazing peninsula. This cabin is literally located on the Northernmost tip of Door County on 200 feet of shoreline and looks off towards Washington, Plum, Detroit, and Pilot Islands and onward toward Michigan. For the true adventurers who want to leave the city behind and get completely swallowed up in nature's beauty, The Bell Cabin offers an atmosphere that is second to none. We hope to see you there!

Peacefulness and Tranquility

  • 4 of 5

Bell's Cottage provides guests with a peaceful and tranquil escape from the demands of work and family. The view from the sun porch is amazing and both of us spent hours reading, lounging, listening to the rain and looking out at the beautiful view of Lake Michigan and the islands.

The cabin is rustic but the kitchen and bathroom remodels are nice. Our morning walks were gorgeous and provided us the opportunity for solitude.

Door County is an area that we will return to.

So quiet!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this cabin. Very quiet, close to everything but not in the middle of all the touristy kitch. We will come here again!

Secluded

  • 5 of 5

So, yes, there is the neighbor next door. However, they were quite friendly and respectful of us and our space. My husband and I absolutely loved the location of this cabin. Close enough to get pretty much anywhere in Door Co. Pretty quickly but far enough away to feel like we were actually on vacation from society. The back porch view of the lake was the best part of this house. We loved the cabin feel of this place. Another thing we noticed about Door County is that the locals are super friendly and willing to help with anything. That's not something you can find in just any vacation spot. All of the cycling and fishing opportunities made us fall in love with the this place.

Outstanding Experience

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented this cabin last summer, and after seeing the negative reviews we felt compelled to tell you about our experience.

To begin, yes, there is a cabin next door that had some activity but we found the neighbors to be super friendly and it ended up having a positive impact on our experience. We enjoyed watching the moon rise while listening to the soft tunes from next door. We didn't experience the bright lights and we're able to see the stars PERFECTLY every night and have a bonfire in the backyard.

In addition, the cabin was EXACTLY what we were looking for. Reasonably priced with amazing views and the charm of a log cabin. Bathroom and kitchen were both nicely updated. We couldn't have had a better week together and told ourselves that we would definitely be making this an annual trip.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your great review! Getting to know your neighbors is one of the perks of renting a privately-owned home - in contrast to the anonymity of staying at a hotel or resort. We hope you come back to stay again!

Too close to neighbor

  • 2 of 5

The location is great--except for one thing: The cabin is located next to a large home, complete with floodlights that are on from dusk til dawn. You feel like you're in the guest cottage of some rich dude. While the neighbor is very nice, he does play his music throughout his house starting early in the morning and ending late at night. We had to go down to the lake shore to try to get away from it. We left early when this neighbor brought in the heavy equipment to powerwash and stain his home.

We liked the rental itself, but to be honest, the porch furniture was extremely musty-smelling and should be replaced. Bring Febreze. Wonderful ambience in the cabin and with the lake right there and the nice back yard, it's too bad the peace and seclusion is ruined by a neighbor on top of you who likes his lights and music (TOP 40!). We'd return, but only if we knew the next door neighbor was on vacation elsewhere.

Owner's Response: We're sorry to hear you had trouble with the neighbors - I bet they'd be open to a request to turn the music down or outside lights off, if this would be a problem in the future to you or other guests. The owners of the cabin also let us know that they are replacing the couch on the porch and getting rid of the musty-smelling one. Thanks for the feedback!

Misleading

  • 2 of 5

"Leave the city behind and get swallowed up in nature's beauty" as long as you don't mind staying in someone's back yard with more lights then a maximum security prison! "Enjoy the Stars"? We couldn't see them for the bright lights. "Sounds of nature..." couldn't hear them because of the music. Rustic cabin comes complete with spider webs and authentic musty smell. The view is nice. The viewing deck is well built and sturdy. The open concept log cabin has nostalgic charm, but in the end lacks the seclusion and privacy that you would expect.
