About the owner: My name is Kristin. I grew up in Iceland but live in London with my husband and two children. This is a family second home. My parents live in Iceland.
Why the Owner Chose Stokkseyri, Iceland:
This has been a family second home for the last 21 years. It was my grandmother who found the house. As a teenager she had worked in a neighboring village, Hveragerdi, where she met and fell in love with my grandfather. Of all the villages in southern Iceland this had always been her favorite; close to the sea, with views of the glaciers, mountains and farmland and close to her roots, a farm by Mt. Hekla. For the last 15 years, my parents have used the house as a weekend recluse from 'busy' Reykjavik. They like to take long walks, bicycle and play lots of golf. For them it's very convenient, only 40 minutes from Reykjavik, a big supermarket in the neighboring town, nice restaurants and a wide selection of great golf courses.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
It's also been a favorite destination for their eight grandchildren - the older ones play football in the backyard, go horseback riding, fishing and kayaking. The younger grandchildren spend lots of time on the beach and in the local swimming pool, just a few blocks away. Since having my own children, 2 and 6, and trying to travel in Iceland with friends with children I realized that, accommodation-wise, Iceland is not very family friendly. It's virtually impossible to get adjoining rooms. I also realized what an excellent base this was for our friends from abroad to see some of the major sites that Iceland has to offer. Not to mention activities. Iceland is spectacular. We are all very excited to share with you a country, and a home, that has given us all great pleasure.
