The River Dolphin is located in the quaint community of Waters Edge where everything is easy going! This particular three-story townhouse is located on the banks of the gorgeous Folly River which separates Folly Beach from the mainland. The river feeds the surrounding marshland and The River Dolphin is perfectly situated for you to view from your living room or one of two river-view porches. The first level of The River Dolphin is dedicated to a three-car garage, linear garage with interior access to the home. The second level houses an open kitchen that flows into the dining area and living room. Whispering pastel colors regularly associated with coastal life blossom throughout while polished wooden floors and modern appliances and countertops provide a great balance to the home. Images of the coastal paradise in which you are immersing yourself decorate the walls and tables. The living room is separated from the screened-in porch only by windows and a sliding glass door. The porch itself is furnished with a four-person table with standing room provided on the remaining half. There is also a bedroom and full bath located on this level.
The top floor houses the two remaining bedrooms. Each has its own full bath. The master bedroom, however, has a stand-alone shower, a large walk-in closet, a his/her sink and a spacious Jacuzzi tub for ultimate relaxation. It also has access to a private, open air balcony with plenty of room to catch some afternoon sun while enjoying Folly River view and the salty breeze. The Waters Edge community is tucked away from the hustle and traffic of Folly Beach but is close enough for a bike ride or extended walk to all of the dining and shopping, if you were so inclined. It is equally convenient to the actual sand and surf of Folly Beach, or you can simply load up the car and cruise a few blocks to the beach spot of your choice.
Visiting historic Charleston for the day? Walk the Charleston Battery, explore the Market, picnic at Waterfront Park, or take a horse drawn carriage ride through the Holy City. The condo was really very, very nice. Everything was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and the decor perfect! The location was perfect for getting to Folly Beach and the local restaurants - easy walking distance. The balcony overlooking the marsh was very relaxing for enjoying a glass of wine at the end of the day! I would definitely reserve again.
Second time staying at this property and I am in love. I have been coming to Folly since I was a small child. My parents used to rent a house on front beach for up to a month each summer. The house we rented for years was taken by Hurricane Hugo. Since then we have not been back to stay for more than a couple days at the Holiday Inn (now Tides). I have always wanted to spend Christmas at the beach and this year I did it. It was wonderful. The weather was nice and my family loved spending Christmas Eve with me at the River Dolphin. Everyone says the place is ME!! I will be back again.
The River Dolphin was nice! We had 7 girls there for a bachelorette party weekend! The house is walking distance to the bars and restaurants as well as to the beach. It is closer to the bars and restaurants than it is to the beach. Although, basically the bars and restaurants are just between the house and the beach. House on one end and beach on the other end. So, if you stayed closer to the beach you would still be very close to the bars and restaurants too. From the house, the walk to the start of the bars and restaurants is about 5 minutes and the walk to the beach is about 10 minutes. We did not rent a golf cart and we didn't really need one, but I think it would be a good idea if you are going to go to the beach every day. We stayed four nights and only went to the beach 2 days. Dunes Properties said you can get a discount on the golf cart if you mention Dunes Properties. The house was plenty big enough for everyone. It was nice having 3 full bathrooms! The house sleeps 10, but I think 10 adults would be a little too full. You could make it work though! We were able to squeeze 3 vehicles in the garage for one night, but it is only meant for two vehicles and a golf cart. It is one long narrow garage where you have to double park. You cannot park side-by-side. There really also isn't any street parking. There were a few spaces that looked like visitor parking, but I'm not exactly sure that they were intended for that. The garage door was not working properly and I notified Dunes Properties. They were supposed to be getting someone to fix it. It would open just fine, but it would not close all the way, unless we did a little trick. We were able to get it closed by making it go down, stopping it midway, then making it go up and stopping it, and then making it go down again. Then it would close all the way. The only problem was we had to have someone stay in the garage to do that, then go back up through the house and out the front door to make sure all the doors were locked. We had to close the garage door from inside the garage. We could not do it from outside the garage. Just a little inconvenience, but no big deal. At least we were able to get the door closed! The porch off of the living room is screened in, which was really nice! I think the bugs would be really bad, if it wasn't screened in. The cost to UberXL downtown Charleston on Friday night for 6 people was about $35. The cost to Uber home for 3 people was only $16.
Immaculate home, comfortable furniture, well equipped kitchen in the best river location on Folly. Enjoy the river views with daily dolphin appearances, walk downtown to all the great restaurants and a short walk to the beach. Best of all that Folly has to offer!

Our group of 4 adults and 4 teenagers had the best late summer vacation we could have ever asked for. Check in and out at the Dunes property office on Center Street was super quick and easy then on to see the rental. I am always a bit nervous when I first turn the key on a rental we have never stayed in before but all those worries disappeared when we walked into The River Dolphin, it was the perfect escape. Great open floor plan, perfect beach décor and plenty of room to spread out. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our own meals including an awesome shrimp boil with local shrimp!! The 3 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms were roomy and very clean. There is a full size washer and dryer which really helps with all the beach towels we needed when we used the great outdoor pool only steps away from this unit. The beach is a 5 minute walk or you can rent a golf cart right on the island which we did and then you can zip to the beach or all over Folly island to explore. We parked our cars when we arrived and didn't back in them until we left a week later, everything is that close. We ate at several of the islands restaurants and had all good experiences. I can't say enough about The River Dolphin, Folly Beach and Dunes Properties, our ESCAPE to the Edge of America was perfect!
It was cool and rainy the week we stayed at The River Dolphin but the accommodations made up for that. The condo was clean and there was plenty of room for our family of 8. A closet in one of the bedrooms was large enough to place a pack and play for my granddaughter to sleep. The bedroom near the kitchen was perfect for my in laws. The garage could hold 2 cars and was convenient on rainy days. The condo was walking distance to the beach and the main strip. We had a great breakfast one morning at The Lost Dog Cafe. We would love to stay here again if the opportunity arises.
We have stayed at many places on Folly Beach, and in several different units at Water's Edge. This townhome, 114 Water's Edge is a cozy, private, well-decorated gem that offers a great view of the Folly River, a very short walk to downtown Folly, a short walk to the beach and...a pool! All of this at very reasonable price. We love this townhome and plan to come back. For those of you who don't know Folly, it's famous for its beautiful beaches, laid-back life style and easy access (15 minutes) to the world-class shopping and dining that Charleston has to offer.
