About Mrs Sonia

Hallo everyone! My name is SONIA and I am from Lucca. I run my Lucca Holiday Rentals company that offers exceptional apartments in the heart of Lucca. My goal is to help you fall in love with Lucca – to discover, explore, taste and savor new sights and experiences in this incredible city.

My company began almost 10 years ago when I started to rent my family villa after my parents moved to the mountains when they got retired. I spent there my entire childhood and I grew up there in deep contact with the nature and the history. My father thaught me everything about the birds and the antique trees and flowers of the villa and the smell of the sizzling pans used to wake me up each Sunday morning after my mum started to cook! I was fascinated by her when she was telling me the history of the villa in the past century. I thought this kind of feelings are too precious to let them go so then I had the idea to share my love of Lucca and “la dolce Vita” by finding beautiful apartments , villas and farmhouses in my favorite Lucca neighborhoods among my family members properties. Lucca Holiday Rentals started out as a boutique family company and now there are over 15 people working together. We are a friendly and enthusiastic team who will assist you every step of the way, from your first enquiry to your arrival in Lucca.

Mrs Sonia purchased this apartment in 2012

first time to Lucca

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the apartment it was close the the sites and train station, but out of the tourist hoards. Sonia was there to meet us so we didn't get lost in the first minute. Unfortunately we were only there 7 nights. not enough time to see it all. The restaraunts and market she suggested were great. The kitchen was well appointed and the bed was very comfortable. We really liked just riding our bike around and seeing things from the walls. Tenuta Valgiano that Sonia suggested had amazing wine sand we got a daily trip there in the countryside of Lucca. When we are able to return we will check Sonia's availability. It was a great charming apartment.

Excellent choice

  • 5 of 5

I visited the apartment for 1 week in may with my girlfriend and her parents after a week in the countryside and we rented both properties from the same owner Mrs Sonia. This apartment is every bit as beautiful as the photos suggest. It is very clean, recently renovated, spacious and has everything for a comfortable holiday including a well stocked kitchen and instructions for all the appliances. The interiors are stylish, the beds brand new and were comfortable for the 4 of us, there was an excellent internet connection and a tv with international channels. The location of the apartment is perfect for those wanting to enjoy Lucca and have daily trips around Tuscany. A free parking is located almost at the door of the building so moving around was so easy! The parking was a real bonus and so rare! It is a short distance from the shopping streets and squares but on a quiet corner. It situated in an area that contains a nice supermarket and numerous food shops. Best of all, just across the street, is the fantastic Port Ellen Clan Restaurant , where you can be guaranteed of being treated like royalty every time you visit! Thanks Sonia - we will see you again on our next visit to Lucca!

REAL LUCCA EXPERIENCE (and very comfy beds!)

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned to our routine after living the real LUCCA EXPERIENCE...and we loved it. We searched for fun, sightseeing and peace and we found them all! Finding Casa Bastione was a real find! From the very first email, I was impressed with the professionalism and efficiency of the communication. It was very reassuring! When we arrived, the owner was great - welcomed us warmly and did everything that she could to make out stay enjoyable. This apartment really tick all the boxes: located in a quiet and historical neighbourhood, a parking in less than 10 minute walking...and then over the corner many restaurants, shops, public transport... The charming atmosphere of the elegant furniture adds value and the gentle bathrooms and comfortable beds and big storage were just...Heaven! We couldnt have asked for more, thank you Sonia for your kindness and warm hospitality.

The flat is in a great location close to the bus station and parking. Our contact was fantastic and met us when we arrived with a heap of information. The kitchen had tons of cooking utensils and appliances as well as washing powder, etc to organize yourself. The flat was very clean and the towels and sheets were of a high quality. The beds in the twin room are comfortable and the king bed in the master bedroom was ideal for us! Every detail was thought of including wifi access, a heap of tourist info in the desk draw, handy phone numbers and train/ bus maps, as well as information about events. Even had a few magazines to look at. It really felt like home. Thank you for everything, there is no doubt that when we come back to Lucca I will be looking to stay in this property again and will certainly recommend it to friends and family. Kind regards, Natasha and Nick from Washington DC

Horrible Sleeping Because of Cheap Matresses !!!

  • 2 of 5

My wife and I [60's couple] rented this unit for 9 weeks beginning 29 August 2014. I thought it best I list the “negatives” first because one [or any combination] may very well be a “show-stopper” making this rental unsuitable for you.

The Negatives:

-The King size-bed was by far the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on in my life. It is made up of two, single metal spring cot-style beds, with two ultra-light [5 inch] mattresses on top of each of the two metal springs. Early in our stay we pointed out to Sonya that the bedding was totally unsatisfactory and she reported back that the owners refused to modify it. Both my wife and I woke up every morning with a sore neck and headache. Quite frankly, had we not prepaid for our 9 week stay, we would have moved out and found other accommodations given the mattress situation

- The 2nd bedroom has two twin beds and no usable window; also, no air conditioning.

- The 2nd bathroom, although equipped with a shower, when the shower is being used [or being set-up to be used] it renders the bathroom useless for anything else. They shower has a glass enclosure that folds up against the wall and when it is opened to take a shower, both the sink and toilet in the bathroom are inaccessible.

-The apartment is located on the 3rd story of the building; there is no elevator. If the renter has any mobility problems this is definitely not the place to rent.

- The stairway [building common area] leading up to the apartment is in total disrepair; large pieces of cement missing from the walls, wires hanging out of the wall, etc…it’s a 13th century building that appears to have ignored the common areas for the past 700+ years.

- Lighting throughout the apartment is poor and very dim.

- The kitchen supplies are adequate for only light cooking; don’t plan on cooking your gormet Italian meal here. .

The Goods:

- Well located inside the wall, at the head of the main commercial street running through Lucca.

- There are numerous small grocery stores close to the apartment.

-The apartment has an up-to-date A/C & heating system [note, the second bedroom has no A/C]; a modern combination washer/dryer; modern dishwasher.

Obviously, the question that needs answering is: Would you rent this unit again? Answer: Definitely not. [That’s how uncomfortable the bed was.] A good night’s sleep is one of the main reasons one seeks lodging and this rental unit failed miserably, in fulfilling this need.

Owner's Response: It's a shame that this review should appear as it reports untruth details. I wonder how the experience foir this reviewer could be so negative while it was so positive for all the others? The beds are normal size and good quality, they are real beds and definitely not thin cheap mattresses! Of course the base of the bed underneath the mattress is made of metal/iron, have you ever seen a bed made of paper? It is true that the second bedroom has no air conditioning, it is impossible to install in it. By the way the house has 4 air conditioners that keeps extremely fresh all around and in addition the second bedroom has a fan. The bathroom described in the review is quite a funny story... the shower has a fold out screen of course, it does not fall down, no one have experienced this so far! The apartment is located on the second floor of a building and there are very low half steps to get to the apartment. Definitely not hard to climb, by the way it can still be challenging for handicapped or elderlies with mobility problems but this might not be the proper apartment. I always suggest other apartments of mine in this case. The kitchen is very fully quipped and there's plenty of light ALL AROUND the apartment as other reviews confirm. I wonder if the reviewer did located all the light switches and turned lights on while he was there. By the way, I always do all my best in order to ensure my guests' satisfaction and I listen and follow all my guests' suggestions and requests in order to provide the best experience! For me having guests is like having old friends at home and during these 9 years of rentals most of the guests have become friends. I am so sorry that the reviewer did not become one of them. He was certainly not cooperative.

Car: not necessary

Lucca, beautiful city, famous for its monumental 15th century fortified wall. But dig a little deeper and you find that its winding medieval streets actually follow the plan laid out by the Romans in 180BC. And before the Romans, Lucca was one of the major centres of Etruria, the ancient country of central Italy that more or less corresponds to modern Tuscany. Unsurprisingly then, Lucca is steeped in history. Your twelfth century building is just a small part of that. There are museums and churches, and the magnificent cathedral, the Duomo di San Martino, is the town’s finest Romanesque building, its impressive façade a triumph of sculpture, carving and inlay work – at just five minutes’ walk from the apartment. Modern delights include terrific restaurants, bars and shops, all within a few minutes’ walk. In Lucca’s winding streets, the pedestrian comes before the car, so you can move at your own pace. In fact wandering the streets is one of the great pleasures of the city.
