About Shannon Reynolds

Chris & Dawn and Tom & Angie are proud owners of the Cottage at Bear Lake Reserve.

When we aren't busy with our careers in sales and marketing or contracting business, we like to travel locally or internationally and enjoy entertaining family and friends. We also like to spend as much time at our cottage and Bear Lake as possible. It's the perfect escape.

Our interests include outdoor sports and activities, sight-seeing, enjoying the arts, attending cultural events, and sharing a mutual love of great wines.

Giving back to community is also important to us and we've volunteered and raised money for a number of organizations including the American Heart Association, March of Dimes, Breast Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, Big Brothers and Big Sisters and Second Harvest.

Why Shannon Reynolds chose Tuckasegee

Bear Lake Reserve® has blended unspoiled nature, outdoor entertainment and luxurious amenities seamlessly to create a memorable vacation experience for kids of all ages. The surrounding mountains, pristine waters, private resort and neighboring communities ensure that there's something appealing to every interest and taste year round, 24/7. And the location is ideal—you're far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the city yet close to art and culture, entertainment and a host of outdoor activities. You can do just about anything or absolutely nothing surrounded by nature at its absolute best.

What makes this cottage unique

We consider our cottage at Bear Lake Reserve as our home away from home. It's the perfect retreat for every season—mild springs give way to sun-filled summers, crisp fall evenings with stunning foliage and the quiet stillness of snow covered winters. Serene woods, a crystal clear brook that runs along our property and nearby trails provide the perfect setting to slip away and recharge.

Guestbook comments from the manager

My family and I stayed at the Mountain Creek cottage on Bear Lake Reserve in the Spring for 7 nights and had an absolute fabulous time. The cottage was extremely clean and well furnished. The cottage is so convenient to many natural attractions both on the mountain and off the mountain. We had so much fun up there we seriously contemplated buying our own place like the Mountain Creek in Bear Lake Reserve. We will definitely be back and will rent again from Sundog. Both Caleb and Mark were tremendous when helping us pick the right home and throughout the entire rental process. Sundog. Bear Lake and Mountain Creek get a 5 star rating from us.

Comfortable cottage! We loved the quaint creek and nearby trails. Quiet community.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this creekside cottage. There are neighboring houses very close nearby but it was a quiet & peaceful location. We enjoyed the fireplaces very much (the inside gas fireplace quit working mid-stay but the owner & manager seemed diligent in getting it fixed for us) Beds were comfy and master bathroom / shower a plus! Minor things....we would have appreciated better cooking pans as what is there is in BAD shape. Another area for improvement is cleanliness. It wasn’t bad but it could’ve been better! Overall it was a nice place and we had a great week there.

A treehouse tucked away in a lovely mountain resort.

  • 5 of 5

Fall in the mountains at your wonderful "treehouse" cottage with a screened porch and a roaring fire was the perfect setting for our ladies fall retreat. The continuous flow of the stream playing nature's music in the background as we shared long conversations on the porch with a view of crisp fall color was just what our souls needed! THANK YOU for sharing your lovely cottage.

Great house with access to awesome facilities!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at Bear Lake Reserve over the 4th of July and had a great time! The house was as described in the listing and was well stocked with all the items you would need for an extended visit.

All of the furniture was very comfortable and in really good condition. Overall, the house is in really great shape and seems to have been well taken care of.

We shared the rental with another family and had a combined 4 kids aged 7-9 in the "bunk" room. At that age, they don't take up much space, so it worked out great. If they were much older, they may feel a little cramped in a room with bunk beds, a twin, and a trundle. Our kids thought it was great!

I think our favorite room in the house was the screened in porch. We used it every night after the kids were in bed to decompress and plan the next day's activities.

The facilities and staff at BLR is what really set this place apart! The Lake Club with it's pools, food, and recreation activities was really a huge asset to us. We ventured off property most days to hike or float or explore, but we always ended up at the Club in the afternoon to swim. We ate twice at the club and had great food both times we were there. The club is a few miles from the cabin itself, but we used it daily. We also had a picnic at the overlook, caught trout at the mill pond, and roasted marshmallows in one of the BLR firepits. We were there for the busiest week of the summer, and it never felt crowded!

Perfect home away from home

This cottage was a great place for my family. We enjoyed all of the amenities of a luxurious hotel-like suite with the charm of an outdoor hideaway. Can't wait to go back!

Not as advertised.

  • 2 of 5

Overall, we enjoyed our stay to Bear Lake, but we were disappointed in the house. The house had clearly not been cleaned thoroughly before our arrival, and the property was misrepresented. We were told the home had a firepit next to the creek and found that this was actually the property next door. The internet did not work for 2 days when I needed it for work, and there were towels in the washer and dryer when we arrived. Lastly, the property was described as having quality linens and comfortable beds. It had neither. I think all along the home next door, Shannon's home was being described, not the home we rented. The club/pool was nice but service was terrible. They did not have anything we asked for, every day we went. They were either out, the machine was broken, or something else was wrong. We would likely stay at Bear Lake again, but we would not rent this property.

Owner's Response: We are very sorry to hear your stay was not everything you hoped for. We do our best to ensure all guests have a pleasurable experience. While we cannot guarantee every stay will be perfect, we do guarantee we will be responsive should issues arrive. We attempted to give you the attention and responsiveness you deserve, and again are sorry it was not sufficient to meet your expectations. Also, a point of clarification, the advertisement for this home never inaccurately described the cottage. You were sent one piece of misinformation in a confirmation email after you choose to rent and paid, and were notified of the error. With this said, we take all feedback very seriously, and have reviewed all communications to ensure their accuracy and addressed your concerns with our cleaning crew.

A Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a relaxing vacation, you must check this place out. This is not your average cabin in the woods. This is a luxury cottage home with all the fixings. We really enjoyed the beautiful house especially the screen in porch in the back. The hiking trails through the woods are wonderful with lots of opportunity to explore nature. The golf course on top of the mountain has an absolutely breath-taking view. And then, there is the lake, the club house that offers everything you ever need for a relaxing week in the mountains. We have recommended it to all of our friends and we'll be booking another week soon.
