About Sherrie Bare, Owner

Our family loves the beauty of the mountains.

Why Sherrie Bare, Owner chose Blue Ridge Mountains

We love the sounds and views of the rushing creek from the cabin and deck. The small community is a great place for long walks along the roadways. Very convenient to Boone and West Jefferson, yet privately nestled in the wooded setting away from it all! Convenient to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the New River as well as attractions such as Tweetsie Railroad, Grandfather Mtn, Tanger Outlets.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We've just returned from a fabulous weekend at Chasing Rainbows. The house was exactly what we were looking for, very welcoming, very cozy. I hope we can come back again.

Amazing Time at Chasing Rainbows!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay in this beautiful cozy cabin. The place was very clean, it had everything we needed and more. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped, and the hut tub was perfect! The location was great, surrounded by nature and right in front a creek with the relaxing sound of the water running. But also close enough to West Jefferson and other small towns where we could find grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc. We will definitely be coming back again! Thank you so much for everything!

Owner's Response: Hi, We are so glad you had an amazing time at Chasing Rainbows. This cabin is clean and well appointed for all who stay. It is perfect for those who want to get away from it all but not be too far from shopping, dining and sight seeing. Close to West Jefferson and Boone area, anything you want to do is convenient. We look forward to you coming back to visit. Thanks, 4 Seasons Vacations

Chasing Rainbows – ok, just ok

  • 2 of 5

Chasing Rainbows was very cute and cozy with a wonderful fireplace. The mountain stream was delightful. However, it may be better for a cool weather or winter stay and look out for the hidden fees.

We should have gotten a clue when we noticed one of the reviewers indicated there were numerous hidden costs. We initially dismissed the idea but quickly recognized its truth. The website purported a nightly fee but this quickly rose by 22%/night once management fees and taxes were included and rose by 53%/night with pet fees. While this was disappointing, we decided to proceed.

The cabin, again, was very cute and cozy, and did sit across a gravel road from a wonderful mountain stream. However, the mountain stream was inaccessible to people or pets from in front of the cabin. There were no boundaries identified on either side so we accessed the stream on both sides. Apparently we trespassed on one side (toward the right) which was the preferred side and also rental property. We found this out, after the fact, with a call from the management company. Also on this call we were asked if we had removed a plastic Adirondak chair from that same next door rental property. Seriously?!? The website clearly shows that Chasing Rainbows has two, red plastic Adirondak chairs. We hardly needed to use or remove one from another property.

Other annoyances were the small window AC unit which took 24 hours to cool the very small cabin in the July heat, the kitchen light above the sink did not work and the hot tub cover was difficult to remove (not to mention the hot tub was right below the main electrical entry point to the house).

Again, may be better for a cool weather or winter stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying in Chasing Rainbows. I am glad you enjoyed the cabin and wished you would have called to clarify the creek access area. The property at the dead end of the road is a private log cabin with its own private creekfront yard, not a public access. Chasing Rainbows has a small creek front area to the left of the cabin if looking toward the creek with a bench right beside the creek (see pic). When reserving through VRBO please review the optional charges and choose accordingly as to the ones you want and do not want to add. Anytime you have questions please use the provided after hours phone number or call our office so we can assist you. Thanks, Sherrie

Reunion weekend

  • 5 of 5

Chasing Rainbows gets an A+. My two friends and I wanted a quiet weekend in a cabin by the creek. The cabin was everything we hoped for...a great deck overlooking the creek, a hot tub, a well furnished kitchen, and plenty of quiet. The cabin was spotless when we arrived and had everything we needed. It was a beautiful weekend with the new season popping out right before our eyes. We're looking forward to our 2014 reunion in the same spot.

Weezie

Chasing Rainbows, our home for 4 nights. WiFi for my husband, a nice relaxing deck and bubbling creek for me, and for us-a hot tub ready for use! Rest was what I needed and this was a great place to get it. ...and I can't forget the heater in the bathroom to knock off the morning chill as you took a bathe. My husband realized I can still cook. I liked the stove top. Our GPS can in handy but it really wasn't off the beaten path too much. We enjoyed the location being near Boone, West Jefferson, and N. Wilkesboro. The Blue RIdge Parkway just about right so close too. Found the neighbors friendly as we went for walks.

Notes:
My cabin is creekfront and private. It is in a small community so enjoy lots of walking the roadways with mountain scenery. Roast hot dogs and smores in the new fire pit. We will be glad to arrange special items; like groceries, anniversary/birthday gifts for a fee. The area offers New River kayaking and tubing as well as fishing. Downtown West Jefferson offers antique malls, restaurants, coffee shops, weekend antique auction and numerous art galleries. Convenient to Ashe County Cheese, Tweetsie Railroad, Grandfather Mountain, Blue Ridge Parkway and Merle Fest.
