What makes this house unique

The small town feel of being 'up north' is unbeatable. You can choose to go into town whenever you wish to shop and enjoy the local hang outs like 'Art's' or 'Cherry Republic' (our favorites). The next day you can travel up M-22 and visit all the wineries or take a trip to Leland 'Fish Town'. The fun is endless and there's always something to do. Our best days are spent at the house and in the lake.

Perfect Location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here August 13-20th. The home is just across from the Dune climb and we used the canoe and paddle boat often. We were 5 adults and 2 kids (4 and 7) staying at the house with multiple other family members staying in the area so we had wonderful large family dinners on the patio with an amazing view. The round patio table was a bit difficult to get in and out of sometimes. The house was not updated, but very clean and provided enough space for everyone (although we spent most of the time outdoors). We climbed the dunes a few times, toured the Pierce Stocking Drive and overlooks and floated the Platte River to Lake Michigan. We would highly recommend this home and had a wonderful time!

Great Location

We stayed at this home August 1st-8th. Unfortunately, on our second day an incredible storm (100 mph straight line winds) hit the Sleeping Bear area and ravaged Glen Arbor (and our vacation!) Our stay was Saturday-Saturday and we were without power from Sunday-Friday evening. All the parks were closed for the length of our trip (including the dune climb right across the street!) due to downed trees (everywhere). We had a week's worth of food and no refrigeration, showers, or toilets. This trip was a dream for my mother and she spent more than she ever has to rent this home for her children, their significant others, and her husband. After a day of flushing the toilets with lake water and buying lots of ice, the owner drove 5 hours to save our vacation (we were just about to leave!) Chris brought a gigantic generator and enough gasoline for the week. He spent two hours installing it to the entire home, bringing not only electricity but water (hot water!) He then turned around and drove 5 hours home in the middle of the night. We were so grateful for Elizabeth and Chris's kindness and generosity. We were able to share these resources with the neighbors and make the most of the vacation (and beautiful Little Glen Lake).

This vacation was not what we had hoped for, but to no fault of the owners of this property. Below are some positive things to note about this vacation home:

- Location: right across from the Dune Climb and Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail and directly on Little Glen Lake! Also close to Alligator Trail and biking (and running) distance from the town of Glen Arbor (located between Empire and Glen Arbor).

- Condition: the home was not updated but very clean. The kitchen has everything you could need (maybe too much!)

- Comfort: we slept 7 comfortably (our 8th member canceled his flight due to the storm!)

- Bathrooms: 2 full baths, 1 bathroom with a toilet (small shower but it was broken when we were there) and an outdoor shower.

- Outdoor space: great deck, dock, grill, and picnic table. The home also comes with a row boat and a canoe. The water is shallow and crystal clear.

Thank you again to Elizabeth and her father Chris for going out of their way to make our stay more comfortable during an unforeseen situation. We would highly recommend this property to their hospitality, the location, and the space it provided our family.

This home on Little Glen Lake worked well for our family of 8. Home was well equipped, has shallow water, is close to Lake Michigan dunes and beaches, easy access to a great bike trail and Glen Arbor shopping.

We had a very warm week and the water was so clear and warm. We used the canoe and rowboat for fishing, brought our own kayaks and everyone used all the toys! The house is huge and very beautiful, so clean when we arrived. We took advantage of walking to the dune climb a few times, toured the Pierce Stocking Drive and overlooks, walked Alligator Hill and made trips to Empire, Glen Haven and Glen Arbor for ice cream and shopping. The house is perfect for any age and has a beautiful deck with umbrella on the lake side. The sunrises and sunsets are outstanding. When I needed answers to the questions I had before our week stay, the owner was quick and gracious. We've rented 5 different homes on waterfronts, but this house was our favorite.

Wonderful Glen Lake House in a perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

Our family really enjoyed our stay at this house on Glen Lake. The house was more than large enough for 7 of us. The bedrooms are all big, but snag the big master bedroom if you can! All have comfortable queens and there is a sofa bed in the family room (like every sofa bed you have ever slept in). From the pictures we expected the décor to be dated, and it was, but the house is in terrific shape. The appliances are modern and the kitchen well stocked. With a washer, dryer, disposal, ice-maker, AC, attic fan, cable TV and quality linens we had every amenity needed..

The lake is shallow – knee high for 60 yards before it drops off to 6’. The water is clear and warm and the bottom sandy - perfect for small children. There is a little beach to dig in and the grassy lawn is great for sunbathing. The back deck is large and has a built-in round table which is good for groups though a little difficult to get in and out of. The grill was big, clean and new. We enjoyed paddling around in the rowboat and canoes. The big treed lot makes the house feel secluded.

The house is inside the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The Dune Climb is across the street – look up from the lake and the dune towers above the house. Take the Scenic Drive - the view from the Boardwalk is breathtaking. The Alligator Trail, a mile from the house, is a moderate hike through beautiful woods to bluffs overlooking both Lake Michigan and Glen Lake. There are many accessible Lake Michigan beaches nearby. We went kayaking – Crystal River Outfitters is right in Glen Arbor. Golfers have choices – Manitou Passage is the best in the area.

Glen Arbor is a cute little town with shops and galleries from the typical to more upscale. Cherry Republic is a shop-bakery-restaurant that needs to be seen just to marvel at all the things that can be done with cherries. Art’s Bar is a Glen Arbor classic and packs them in every evening. Boondocks has a huge outdoor patio and bar which is a fun place to drink. We had pizza from Riverside which we all agreed was tasty. Joe’s Friendly Tavern in Empire has good burgers but was over-priced. There are a few well-reviewed upscale restaurants in the area as well. Warning: there is one small market in Glen Arbor that is pricey so try and shop once in Traverse City. Take a day trip to Leland - Fish Town is a fun little historical district. There are many wineries to tour in the area but we ran out of time. Next time perhaps!
