Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

full kitchen, 3 bedrooms, full sleeper sofa, 2 baths, sleeps 7, washer drye

This wonderful home, constructed in the traditional plank wall style of the early 1800's was built from the timbers harvested on its land. It operated as a farm for over one hundred years. In the 1960's it was purchased as a vacation home then became a year round private residence from the 1980's until 2009. It then remained vacant, falling into disrepair.

The house has now been restored without losing its simple charm. Warm and cozy, quiet and secluded, yet quite accessible. Wonderful sunrises, beautiful star-studded night skies. Many year round recreation opportunities available in the area.Keyword: Hill Farmsted Brewery,Jasper Hill cheese, Caspian Lake, Willey's Store, Circus Smirkus, Hazendale Farm Stand, Local food, beef, pork, chicken, vegetables, farmers market, cross country skiing, Jay Peak,Burke Mountain, Stowe,Craftsbury Outdoor Center,Barr Hill Nature Conservancy, Long Pond, fishing, kayaking, canoeing.

About Tim or Bobbie Nisbet

We were introduced to Greensboro in 1967 by Tim's fraternity house mother at U.V.M. We spent many wonderful weekends during our college years swimming in the lake, hiking, and exploring the area. When it came time to 'settle down', Greensboro presented an opportunity. We moved to the area in 1971, started the Greensboro Garage in the village, and in 1972 bought our first home where we still live three miles up the road.

Living in a small rural town, raising our two children, provided multiple opportunities to give back to the community . Tim has been the town moderator for over 30 years and on numerous community boards and committees. He is an active EMT volunteer on the local rescue squad. Bobbie, a registered nurse, has volunteered as a member of many local boards, created the Senior Trotter Program to provide cultural and fun activities for seniors in our area. We both enjoy gardening, sailing, and touring on our Harley Davidson motorcycles during the summer. During the winter, we can be found skiing the cross country trails in town, when not hunkered down by the wood stove. The creative process of restoring and landscaping our current home has been a labor of love we have really enjoyed for over 40 years.

Why Tim or Bobbie Nisbet chose Vermont

The Baker Hill House is a house we have passed on our way home for over 40 years. When it became vacant and we could see it falling into disrepair, we took a look and fell in love with it. It was a diamond in the rough and truly needed loving care to bring it into the 21st century while keeping it's simple charm. Here was a way we could share our wonderful town, it's incredible beauty, and it's offerings with others. Baker Hill House has evolved from a full working farm house early in the 19th century to a summer residence in the 1960's, to a family residence in the 80's & 90's. It is now on a path to welcoming travelers and providing them a place to rest, restore, and drink in the beauty of the area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

After a long nineteen hour drive from Atlanta, we were thrilled to pull up to the "yellow house". The house is beautiful and proved to be everything we had hoped it would be. The kids had fun exploring the house and the grounds. We came for the snow and Vermont delivered. Feel free to use the two man snow cave Zoe and Xavier built. They are excited for you to stumble upon it.

We visit Vermont often and will definitely consider staying at you lovely little house again (maybe next time a little longer).

Thank you for everything!!!

This is a lovely restored older home.

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed our stay at the Yellow House. It has been decorated beautifully to highlight this older home. It was very comfortable with everything we needed. It is spacious so that we had plenty of room for all of seven of us. This home is in a wonderful community of Greensboro with a beautiful lake, nearby local store and friendly people. The owners were very helpful and supportive.

Charming and accommodating house!

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely stay during our short weekend in Greensboro. The house was equipped with everything we needed in the kitchen and we sat 7 at the dining table. We thoroughly enjoyed an afternoon on the porch. Tim and Bobbie were so helpful, responsive and friendly. The only downside of the house for our group was that it was not clear to us that to access the bedroom with the single beds, you need to walk through the room with the full size bed. This detracted a bit from the privacy of those rooms. All in all, it was a wonderful stay. Thank you!

Lovely, comfortable house.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 2 weeks and shared the house with friends and adult children. The house was clean and tastefully decorated. The kitchen was well equipped - we like to cook and entertain and were able to do it easily. We took many walks on the quiet back roads of Greensboro. For those who are energetic and don't mind a hill on the way back, you can even walk the 1.5 miles into Greensboro. Also close to the beautiful Barr Hill Nature trail and its wonderful views. Friends found proximity to the Hill Farmstead Brewery very appealing. Our host and hostess were friendly and gracious and shared the interesting history of Greensboro and the house.

Peaceful and clean

  • 5 of 5

I highly recommend this house! The owners were very easy to deal with and helpful. The house was very clean and well-equipped. The location was quiet and peaceful. The road was great for walking. Being close to the Hill Farmstead Brewery was a bonus. Make sure to order some tarts from the chef down the street (information in the house).

Owner's Response: We are so happy you enjoyed your stay. It is our desire to make stays as comfortable and easy as possible. Hill Farmsted Brewery and Carol are great additions to our community. Tim and I feel very fortunate to have access to these businesses just down the road. Please come to visit again soon. Bobbie & Tim

A true home away from home....

  • 5 of 5

Could not have asked for a better rental. Quaint, clean & located close to town & all its local beauty & attractions. A walk down memory lane for those of us who vacationed here as a child & a grand experience for those looking to get away from the hustle & bustle of everyday life. The Green Mountain State really does hold up to its name. Beauty is everywhere you look. Especially as you have your morning coffee on the deck, overlooking the beautilful tree lined rd & waving to the locals as they drive by. The Baker Hill House is your sure bet for a memorable getaway or extended vacation....Enjoy!

We would rent this home In the Green Mountain State, To honor our mom It truly was fate. Close to family And memories galore, We walked the dirt roads As our mom did before. Having this home To come back to each day, Made a sad time easier In a comforting way. We can't wait to return To this humble abode, A quaint happy home On Baker Hill Rd.

The yellow house is beautifully appointed, well maintained, and has plenty of space. Our family of six was very comfortable. The house is conveniently located just 5 minutes from the lake and local store for groceries, etc. Bobbie was very attentive to our every need.

Greensboro is centrally located to many major towns. Our village offers a well stocked library which hosts a children's story time in the winter and many activities in the summer. Our small town boasts summer theater, concerts, a lecture series, and the wonderful 'Funky Fourth' of July parade and festival. A local brewery is a mile up the road from the Baker Hill House. Caspian Lake beach is a little over a mile down the road offing a boat launch, swimming and picnicking, Willeys Store, a well known century-old country store located near the beach, has anything you may need. A fine local artisan craft store is open during the summer across from the store. Many local craftspeople in the area open their studios to the public. Check out the Greensboro Historical Society's exhibits next to Willeys.
