Great Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time here with several good friends The views were amazing. The way the back deck is built up so you can sit and see over the banister to relax and enjoy the view was a plus. The basement was awesome. Had a good time playing pool, darts, cards on the poker table., and foosball. Having a second kitchen down there made it even a nicer place to hang out. Also enjoyed the hot tub All the bedrooms were vey nice and having four full bathrooms was great. Of course we enjoyed having the fireplace. We would definely come back!

We came to celebrate our good friend's 23'rd birthday. The views are amazing and the place is awesome! Beware--if you don't like hunting or taxidermy stay away. The entire place has enough taxidermy for a North Georgia wildlife museum display. The best part is the basement. There's a bar and a full kitchen with a poker table, Foosball and a pool table. We ran into zero problems and the trip was definitely worth it. We will be returning!

Horrible office staff

  • 2 of 5

Since it took nearly a month to actually reserve the place once I sent my first e-mail, I should have realized that this was not going to be a pleasant experience. It was nearly impossible to get someone to assist me. I sent repeated e-mails and left multiple messages. Once I got the place booked and paid for weeks later, I thought everything was going to be fine.

Unfortunately, someone changed the sleeping total before we arrived. When we had booked, The Summit said it slept 17-19. When we arrived, it said that it slept 14. That's quite a discrepancy. Once this was brought to my attention, I contacted the office via e-mail and got nothing back. I sent another to a different e-mail a short time later only to be told that I would have to call the office and that the e-mail I used was incorrect regardless of it being listed as contact information on a previous e-mail. I called the office and spoke with a lovely girl who said that, at the very least, they would bring out some air mattresses for those people who had already paid for a spot. She then informed me that she would call me back. She never did. I later left another message on a voicemail airing my concerns and, naturally, never heard back from anyone.

Once we arrived, it turned out that we were short spots for two people. I even had a list of beds that I had pulled from the website that was incorrect. Those people, who paid an equal share that everyone else did, ended up having to sleep on the couch.

That being said, the cabin was lovely for the most part. The slate and the rails on the pool table seem to be busted, making any game not very fun. The view is absolutely gorgeous, the cabin was very clean, and it was comfortable. The actual stay itself was pleasant despite the fact that I got stung by a scorpion while standing in the kitchen. Another scorpion was later found in the bathtub. We had a great time in Helen, though the cabin is a little difficult to get to. If it had not been for the lack of any amount of accountability by the office staff at, it would have been a lovely stay. Just make sure to watch out for scorpions.

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains on the Chattahoochee River, this Northeast Georgia village has a rich history linked to the Cherokee Indians and Indian burial mounds as well as early settlers who arrived to mine for gold and cut virgin timber for a thriving lumber industry in the early 1900s. Helen is a re-creation of an alpine village complete with cobblestone alleys and old-world towers. We've got shopping, camping, both rustic and luxury mountain cabins, restaurants, bed and breakfast inns, mountains, theater, recreation, romantic getaways, beautiful scenery, family activities, waterfalls, museums, history, art, fishing, tubing, golf, and more. Something for every member of the family.

Festivals and special events include a hot air balloon race, Wine-fest, Volksmarch, Oktoberfest and Christmas parades, Fourth of July fireworks, and Bavarian Nights of Summer. From mid-September through October, Helen hosts the longest Oktoberfest in the South. Alpenfest offers entertainment during the Holiday season from Thanksgiving through December.
