The Owners of the home are Paul & Laura Bentz.
We immediately fell in love with the home the first time we saw it. It was easy to see that the restiration would be a quite a project due to some neglect and the fact the home is 240+ years old!
The Home has been painstakingly remodeled and updated and elegant but comfortable furnishings added.
The home really is something to see whether you love old homes, history, or just want to relax or entertain in the Finger Lakes.
After the Revolutionary war the land and subsequently the home that was built was given to the original owner as a land grant. Soldiers of the war were often given large amounts of land in lieu of compensation for their time spent in the military.
Laura Bentz purchased this chateau / country house in 2012
Paul and Laura fell in love with this property when they first saw it on a Sunday evening during the Spring of 2013. They decided to rename the property Osprey Manor because a beautiful Osprey flew over as they decided to acquire the property. The elegance and history of the property revealed itself over the following months as the couple began to bring the property to its current beauty.

I rented this house for my sister's bachelorette weekend getaway and I couldn't be happier! There was more than enough room for all 9 of us to sleep comfortably and the many bathrooms made it easy for all of the girls to get ready in the morning. The house was clean and homey with a dining room big enough to seat everyone for dinner. We enjoyed having full use of the kitchen which was stocked with plenty of modern appliances that made it easy to prepare meals.
The house is in a great location that made it easy for us to spend the day checking out local wineries and a ten minute cab ride from auburn where we went out for an evening of dinner and drinks. I am looking forward to the next occasion where I am able to book the rental again!
This beautifully restored historic home is beautifully decorated, but very warm and comfortable. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, dishes, glasses etc. as well as spices -- everything you need but food and drinks. Somehow all 14 of us (a family get-together of women only), seemed to spend most of our time in the lovely kitchen! We even cancelled dinner reservations because we enjoyed being at the house so much. The yard is very large for a family to have plenty of space for kids. Some of our group enjoyed the hot tub. The beds are comfortable and there are plenty of pillows and extra blankets. The living room was lovely on a dark night with a fire in the fireplace! There was a warm welcome with flowers and a bottle of local wine. We enjoyed the view of beautiful Cayuga lake and it is central to many fun places for outings. It was the perfect place for our family to gather from points near and far and spend time together. Laura was so very helpful when we had trouble figuring out the gas fireplace. I couldn't recommend Osprey Manor more highly.
We rented the Osprey Manor to celebrate a few adult birthday's we had 4 couples and the home suited us perfectly! Enough room for everyone to have their own space and yet a perfect set up to sit around and enjoy a glass of wine and games.
We could not have been happier staying at the Osprey Manor! The home was spectacular with such an elegant charm, the location was perfect close to everything that we were looking to do and the owners were especially accommodating and keeping us in the loop as to an early check in and a late check out based on availability. We would definitely return and highly recommend!
Everything was just perfect. Thank you Laura!
This was our first visit to the area. We were attending a wedding at the nearby Aurora Inn. Perfect place for a large group to stay. the accommodations could not have been better. This home was clean and had every amenity your could possibly think of! The owner was a pleasure to work with and even left us a nice bottle of wine from the local Swedish Hill winery. If we are ever in the area in the future and are traveling with a large group we will be back again for sure.
We enjoyed our recent stay here in June 2016. Two families each with two young kids stayed here and there was more than enough space for us to spread out in the house. The swingset, fire pit, hot tube, grill and large yard were convenient and fun amenities to have while staying here. The house overall was clean and had many toiletries available for us to use. The kitchen also had fun gadgets to use too along with random items such as spices, sugar, coffee (etc) that were left from previous guests.
There was a lake view from the front of the house to watch the sunset. The tiny beach was 2 blocks away but we did not use it to swim since the lake was still very cold. Kayaks were available to use there too but we spent our days at vineyards and parks on the other side of the lake or at Lake Seneca. The owners did recommend a hiking area where you could swim in small waterfalls that was only a 10-15 min drive south of where the house is located. I'm really glad we explored that area.
Overall we enjoyed our stay here as it was very quiet and peaceful in this area. Thank you for sharing your house with us 😊
Osprey Manor on Cayuga Lake is an outstanding home. It was large enough and comfortable for a large family reunion. The yard is very large, front and back, for outdoor activities, backyard grilling and entertaining. The lake and public access is walking distance. The location is very convenient to take winery tasting tours, make day trip to Niagara Falls and other wonderful places. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owners were accessible and very helpful as were the care takers for the home and yard.
Only regret was we didn't know the off season timing for swimming at the local park. It was too early for life guard so the public swimming beach was closed. It appeared that swimming starts June 21...it would be good to have swimming season dates posted on the rental page and in the information booklet at the house.
We highly recommend this rental property to others.
We had a family reunion and found this to be a perfect place for our gathering. The kitchen is well stocked. We had a lot of fun preparing big meals together. The house was very clean and comfortably furnished. We all loved the unique charm this home offered.
Osprey Manor is ideally situated in the heart of the Finger Lakes Region and boasts the best of both worlds. Quiet and secluded but not far from modern convinces in Auburn 10 Miles north and Syracuse 30 Miles east.
Being the largest premier lake for Boating and Fishing this lake is large 38 Miles Long but still extremely manageable.
