About Doug or Dennise Hayes
My name is Doug and I am a retired Police Captain and my wife Dennise is a retired Special Ed teacher. We had been coming to the Valley for over 30 years. About 15 years ago we decided to invest and bought our 3-unit Chalet right in the downtown area of North Conway. We cannot ask for a better location. All the Inn keepers and vacation property owners all pitch in and help one another. We love it here.
Doug or Dennise Hayes purchased this Chalet in 2006
Why Doug or Dennise Hayes chose North Conway Village
We bought this property mainly due to its rich local history and convenience to down town. Our family loves to hike and ski. The history in short is that Otto Tschol came here from St. Anton, Arlberg, Austria and built this Chalet with the help of local builders. He was one of many ski instructors who came here to escape Nazi control, and worked for Hannes Schneider's Eastern Slope Ski School at Cranmore Mountain. We have many artifacts if you are interested.

Fireplace was out of propane when we arrived and refrigerator was on the blink - lost a gallon of ice-cream and water was leaking from the bottom. Had to leave a day early due to family emergency and the owners did offer to comp me a night if I come back next year. Very nice gesture but I have already booked a different place for next year.
Sorry about the propane. The gas company apologized as we are on auto delivery. They came and restarted the fireplace and filled the tank on a Sunday. The fireplace is not the main heat source thank goodness, it’s the oil fired boiler as we have forced hot water. We wish this was within our control, but it wasn’t.
With reference to the refrigerator you were the first guests to tell us it wasn’t working properly. I wish you had told me earlier about the ice cream and water on the floor. We would have replaced the ice cream and fridge immediately! We live upstairs. As soon as I was told we went out and bought a new one , but you already had left. We are very sorry these two unforeseen events occurred. As I indicated we are more than happy to comp you a free night anytime.
The proximity to mtb trails and the restaurants was perfect. Doug was very helpful pointing us in the right direction.
Our experience was fabulous. This was our first time using VRBO. Close to downtown, shopping and eateries. Immaculate. Private and like a home away from home.
Great long weekend
Really enjoyed our long weekend on the chalet. We were able to bring our beagles for a little R and R as well. The home is a little small (like a 2 bedroom apartment), but was perfectly equipped for our family of four. It’s also just a 10 minute walk to town. Great place!
Great location, cozy place to stay, would return.
Really enjoyed our stay. The unit is cozy but not cramped and the 3 season room must be great in warmer weather. Nice updates to the kitchen and bathroom and it was great to have coffee and toiletries stocked up in case you forgot your own. Dennise and Doug are very responsive and a family member is already thinking of coming back over the summer to stay.
Beautiful and well maintained
I really have little to say other than we had a great time. The location is great, the cabin is beautiful and well-maintained - there's everything you would need. Really perfect for a family or two, near the scenic train ride, downtown cafes and restaurants, close to the mountains etc.
We are in North Conway Village. (Mount Washington Valley). Hiking trails surround us and the crystal clear Saco River is a half mile away. A 5-minute walk to Cranmore Ski area in one direction or 7 Bars and Restaurants and Schouler Park in the other. We are right in the middle. We have 4th of July fireworks every year and
Craft Fairs several times a year, Chili cook-offs, Mud football in the fall (weekend after Labor Day), Summer Concerts and First Night festivities are held in Schouler Park and Cranmore Mountain. Also located in the Village is the Eastern Slope Play- house where plays are held all year long. North Conway Country Club is also right there next to the Conway Scenic Railroad Station. The local public library in Conway always lists activities for children and has a nice children's room with computers and a play area. There is also a Children's Museum for rainy day fun.
