He is a responsible gardener handy man with a car who is always happy to pick you up at the airport or take you to nearby beaches and restaurants, for less than the cost of a regular taxi.
The cabana is a private and secluded bedroom, just steps from the main house. It's completely screened with a new bed and a spectacular view. The 2nd bedroom is spacious and cool, located on the 2nd story of the main house. The ground floor is a large room with high ceilings, comfortable new futon couch, table, desk, kitchen. Internet/wifi.
An eco bathhouse is easily accessible from the cabana and main house. An eco toilet is a dry odorless toilet using sawdust. The waste material is recycled in our garden, after curing in s separate compartment . Many eco resorts in this area use this water conserving waste disposal system. Water conservation is VERY important on this coast. The shower is in the same building. There is no 'hot water" only tepid.
Dogs are welcome accompanied by responsible owners!
The house is tucked into the hill side with various levels which makes it a challenge to photograph. Ask us to send you more photos. Coming soon a video tour on U-tube. Ask us about our special offers.
Go to sleep and wake up to the sights and sounds of the Pacific Ocean. Watch swooping birds, breaching whales and dolphins from the front veranda. Curl up with a great book or take a siesta in one of five comfy hammocks in different locations. Sip a cold drink of your choice and watch the sunset over the mountain across the bay and the mother of pearl after glo of twilight on the waves.
A note about US and Canada government travel warnings for Mexico. Unfortunately most of these warnings are not area specific. The State of Oaxaca, Puebla and Chiapas are not part of many warnings. This community of Puerto Angel is quiet, and very very secure. I have never had a problem in 20 years.
Keywords: Spectacular view of the Pacific Coast of Oaxaca.
Bird and whale watcher's paradise.
Several beautiful beaches minutes away.
Close to local markets.
Fruit trees, lemons and mangos.
Sofa bed in addition to bedrooms.

About Susan Martin
I am a writer. I bought this land 19 years ago. A totally impulsive act that changed my life. Probably the best thing I have ever done for myself. I planted fruit trees and flowers and cactus every time I returned. I built the house very slowly. It's adobe and palm construction. I built what I needed to read and write and be in nature. It is not a luxury condo. It is a peaceful restorative spot with sea breezes and stairs down to the rocky coast below. My companion in the photo is Pancho, a Xolosquincle. He goes with me when I travel.
Susan Martin purchased this Villa in 1998
Why Susan Martin chose Puerto Ángel
I am Canadian. Winter delights have lost their charm. I came one horrible gray February to finish a project . It was love at first by the following Sept I owned this land. Relatively speaking the coast of Oaxaca from Huatulco to Pto Escondido still has abundant birds and wildlife . The pace is deliciously slow. An international airport in Huatulco Oaxaca is 45 minutes away. Excellent bus service from Oaxaca City and Mexico City.
What makes this Villa unique
Daily Yoga classes are just ten minutes away in various locations. Alternative medicine practitioners abound. Spectacular snorkeling, whale watching excursions, friendly helpful people. Laid back funky fishing town where fresh seafood is easy to get and inexpensive. Oaxaca is famous for it's cuisine. There are some great restaurants. My favorite ritual is walking one of the spectacular beaches at Sunset with Pancho or driving 20 minute to a secret River, walking and swimming in the pools all the way to Candaleria.

Quiet, laid back vacation rental
This was the perfect, perfect, perfect vacation rental for myself and husband...quiet, laid back, simple, open to the elements. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking and spic and span clean. Two double sized beds were on different locations. One on the palapas top level with a net (yes, bugs in the evening and night) and the second double bed in a separate , stand-alone screened hut, a few steps from the kitchen area. There are 52 steps from the main gate to the kitchen, so if you have mobility issues, consider. The bathroom facilities work very well...remember to add lots of sawdust and there is minimum smell. The shower is wonderful and with a view...the water warm enough for the Mexican temperature. The town is a downhill walk of 20 minutes with enough shops for groceries, beer, wine (limited), fresh fish and shrimps, restaurants, etc. Susan's suggestion are great. Best beach was back to the main road, right and up the hill and right again...nice clean beach, fresh fish restaurants, cove beach with less wave action than other beach...a walk of 40 minutes..or take a cab. Paloma, the dog is a great addition...polite, quiet (except for the local cats). Susan, if you ever need a forever home for Poloma, send me an email, and I will take her home to Vancouver....broke my heart to see Poloma running after our rental car when we left. Love you Poloma.
On the subject of rental cars in Mexico....biggest scammers ever. Be prepared to pay one or both of the following at the rental office CDW at US$25 per day or...and 3rd party liabilty at US$15 per day. Many will no longer accept CDW coverage on North American or European credit cards...the requirements they may ask are totally impossible from Mexican Govt. The will not release your car until you have paid their required insurance.
Thank you so much for your excellent review. Just to assure you-- Paloma is loved to the max by everyone, including me. I've missed her so much and I will be returning for the summer and fall to make her my special girl once again. She's the sweetness queen! Thanks for taking such great care of her.
Made me smile to read the word "hut" for the 2nd bedroom. In spanish it's called a cabana and it's my favorite of the two bedrooms in mosquito season since it's got such a lovely private view and all windows are fully screened!! I was interested to read that with lots of sawdust in the bathroom "there is minimal smell" . There really should be no odor at all. In my tips and suggestions sent to all guests prior to a visit, I suggest if there is any odor at all they should immediately inform Lupe and Lupita. It's easy to take steps to eliminate all odor. For next time. We all sincerely hope you will come back one day. It was a pleasure to have you. I will give Paloma a special cuddle hug from you. Hasta la proxima...
Great property with an AMAZING view
We really enjoyed our stay, the view, the whales and dolphins, watching the fisherman working, the sound of the ocean and of course, the house dog Paloma!
The caretakers (Lupe and Lupita) were very friendly and thoughtful.
Wonderful House, Location, and Friends!
Susan’s comfortable beach bungalow provides a breath-taking view of the ocean. Accompanied with hammocks, ocean breeze, and the marvelous Lupe and Lupita (the grounds keepers for Susan, as well as close friends) make Puerto Angel any traveler’s dream get away from touristy towns. I ventured to Puerto Angel with my boyfriend and a couple friends to experience a different part of Mexico, we transcended to a relaxing, lazy beach town. Susan’s house is a 10 minute walk from town, hosting fruit stands and delicious fresh seafood that has been harvested that day. If you ask nicely, Lupita will make an excellent meal for you in the house. I recommend this; it’s a great deal! The beaches in Puerto Angel are beautiful but not perfect for swimming. If you want an ideal swim beach Mazunti is it. Mellow waves, but just big enough to play in, plus clear, warm water! There are also a lot of great places to eat in that area, the town of Mazunti is adorable and quaint. Lupe was more then willing to drive us to this beach, and any other destination. Some fun activities we enjoyed was the crocodile cruise in Ventanilla, and a beach cruise (snorkeling in Huatulco National Park), and the market in Pochutla kept us well occupied when we were not relaxing at the house or taking a walk around town. There are tons of fun things to do in Puerto Angel, but what made this trip special was the hospitality Lupe and Lupita showed us. They welcomed us in as family and created a comfortable environment. They truly made this trip remarkable, that is why I fully recommend renting from Susan.
Beautiful House Stay Made Exceptional by Hospitality Shown
It is unfortunate that this beautiful property could be passed over with all of the bad publicity surrounding Mexico these days. First and foremost, the house was fantastic: the property had breathtaking views of the ocean, wonderful hammocks to relax in while reading or listening to the Pacific, the kitchen was agreeable for cooking in, and the overall atmosphere was tranquil. Although I loved the house, please do not expect conveniences such as a flushing toilet or an enclosed, air conditioned house (bring bug spray), For me, this did not detract from the experience at all.
As far as the overall experience goes, I was blown away. The property has a serene landscape (flowers, fruit trees, etc.) that is maintained by a friendly couple name Lupe and Lupita. In terms of security, I never had any concerns. Lupe, also a friend of the owner, took care of us in a way I could have only expected of my father. I especially remember a time where he came back after leaving us in Huatulco for a cruise to check and make sure we were safe and secure on our ship. He led us through cities, showed us safe places to swim, demonstrated how to lock the house gate (and reminded us when we didn't), etc.
Lupe and Lupita made this vacation into something I could have never imagined, in a very good way. Lupe was able to safely drive us to all of the beaches and cities we desired (think Huatulco, Mazunte, Pochtula, etc.), but he and Lupita truly welcomed us with open arms. We spent three nights eating at Lupita's restaurant with Lupe and some of the family, went to a concert in Pochutla with Lupe and Lupita, and celebrated Mother's Day with the whole family. Everyone was so friendly and truly hospitable that I will have an extremely hard time declining any opportunity to return.
I recommend this house for both its serenity and for the graciousness with which we were received. Best of luck with your decision about where to stay in the Puerto Angel area.
Divine casita and atmosphere and surroundings
In all ways my stay at Susan's Sea Cliff Villa was marvelous. The first excitement is the drive from town up to the ocean view and walking down the steps to the main house with palapa roof and then walking down towards the sea and moving into the beautifully crafted and sited Casita. All around screens give views of the foliage of the variety of trees and the ocean sounds and breezes made it a really divine experience. in the day and the night resting there under the canopied bed with lovely linens was so memorable. in the morning you can walk further down the stone steps to the ocean bay which can be calm or wavy, and whatever the time of day the colors of the sea were beautiful—good for a painter, the colors or musician, the sounds or just someone wanting to rest or read or go in and out of town and come back to cook in the lovely kitchen. All the surrounding beaches provide long walks and swims, each beach so different. Beach cafés make great Mexicana food and drinks and a few restaurants run by Italian and French chefs make a variety of wonderful cuisines.Local fishermen run their boats up on the town beach where you can drink cafe leche and watch the townspeople go about their day or kids at school or school ceremonies. i love the town and have returned three times to see more. I highly recommend the villa. A driver can pick you up and take you around to all the spots. i even studied some spanish at a private teacher and after would walk down to the long beach.
Lovely hiding spot!! Paradise!
We loved our week in this lovely, magical home. We woke up and went to sleep with the sounds of pounding surf. There are no frills...but everything is quite lovely. We loved used the eco-friendly shower and toilet. If you have to have hot water it won't be for you...but standing in an outdoor shower, staring at the ocean through an open space and having a refreshing cold shower behind a screen of beads suited us perfectly! There are quite a few levels to the way the house is built into the hillside and for this reason I wouldn't recommend it for those with small children, with disabilities or elderly who would be concerned about falls. The view can't be beat...it is very private and a quiet little hillside neighbourhood. We could easily walk down into the village and grab yummy crepes at the fabulous little crepe stand just inside the village! Puerto Angel is the real deal.....authentic coastal Oaxaca. We loved every minute. The care takers of the property, Lupe and Lupita took excellent care of us ....and were lovely. If you decide to take a taxi to nearby areas....talk to the crepe woman she was great at getting us an affordable ride with a cousin who owns a taxi!
The house is 20 minutes to Mazunte and the Turtle museum as well as various beaches where the sea turtles lay eggs. Excellent whale watching excursions. Swim with the dolphins. Snorkllng. The Sierra's are only 2 hours away. Hiking and exploring. Many varieties of rare birds. Two beautiful rivers nearby for fresh water swimming and hiking.
