About Peter Joyce
I have been going to Little Diamond since 1968 when my parents purchased the cottage. From the time I was eight years old to present day, I still enjoy island life. Our families have benefited from the island experience. The scenic views, beaches, swimming, fishing, sunsets and just relaxing is refreshing. Our parents are gone now so we decided to rent our treasure to help pay expenses and upgrades.Tom and I are retired Police Officers and wish you a safe and happy vacation.

Why Peter Joyce chose Portland
Sometimes we have to find that special place where we can relax and spend quality time with our families. Little Diamond is that place, cook up a traditional Maine lobster feast, relax on the beach with a good book and enjoy the views, take in the sunsets with a glass of wine and explore the surrounding islands. The sound of the fog horn, the distant bells on harbor buoys, the rain on the roof and creating fond memories. You won't be disappointed.
What makes this Cottage unique
Maine island life has to be experienced. Picture going to a Maine island with no vehicles . The transportation on the island is walking, golf carts or riding lawn mowers. You can walk from one end of the island to the other end in 15 minutes. At low tide you can walk across a sandbar to Great Diamond Island and if you miss the tide you can ride a ferry back to Little Diamond.

Lovely little island
We really enjoyed our week at this cottage. Little Diamond is like no place we’ve ever stayed before, in that it was remote in a lot of ways (no cars, no stores — we saw the store at the casino open once when we were there) but also very much not remote (Portland is a 15-minute ferry ride away.) The cottage itself isn’t far from the dock, and has a nice screened in deck for reading and enjoying the breeze. There’s no air conditioning, but the upstairs is well-ventilated with fans and cooled down quickly every night for sleeping. There’s a washing machine on site, and a drying rack and clothesline. The WiFi was strong and unexpected remote work was done easily, which was a relief. Neighbors are extremely friendly and the property owners were easily reached whenever we had questions.
The golf cart that is mentioned in previous reviews wasn’t available to us (it was out of commission) which was a bummer, as it did make getting our luggage and groceries to the cottage a challenge, and made us less likely to haul our kayak around to use it. Our kids were looking forward to riding in it, but the island is pretty easily traversed without one if you’re not moving more than yourself around.
All in all a really great getaway and we would absolutely stay again.
Wonderful place with great neighbors
Wonderful vacation on Little Diamond Island!
We had a absolutely fantastic week on Little Diamond Island at Peter's family cottage. The cottage is a little gem on a wonderful small island with no cars and friendly neighbors. Peter was gracious and helpful, meeting us Casco Bay Lines ferry to help us get oriented over to the island. A short boat ride later, Peter showed us the cottage and give lots of helpful hints of things to do to keep everyone in the family happy. The cottage is everything you want it to be - quaint, comfortable, and relaxing, and while it is on a island with no cars nestled in the centre of the island, it has all the amenities of home (internet, cable, etc). Peter and his family had taken the utmost care to ensure the cottage was clean and ready for our arrival. Towels, linens, toiletries and condiments are all provided so we could get down to relaxing faster! And the kids loved the golf cart, and so did the dog!
There is lots to do on Little Diamond - beach combing, walking tours, venture over the sandbar to Great Diamond for dinner or ice cream, ride the ferry down bay or to visit the other Casco Bay islands, jumping off the pier after the ferry departs, swimming at the beach, etc. On those days the weather wasn't agreeable, we hopped the ferry to Portland and walked around the old port enjoying chowder and lobster at the many great restaurants along the waterfront. Freeport outlets are a short 20 min car ride away for those of us who enjoyed finding a good deal!
This cottage is a must for your summer vacation - there is something for everyone. Small kids, teenagers and adults will all fall in love with Little Diamond Island.
We'll see you again Little Diamond Island, and thank you Peter for a wonderful vacation!
