About The Owner

The cottage, called "The Barnacle" was completely rebuilt a few years ago and is furnished and equipped for comfortable living. The beach is just a short distance away, the light house shines in the window at night, and in the spring and fall sometimes a deer comes by to see what I have planted for him to consume.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1964

Why The Owner chose Chatham

Chatham is a town which has everything. Two miles up the road you can visit the Fish Pier and see the boats unload their daily catch. A mile down the beach you can find seals. There are two excellent theatres in town offering popular plays. The restaurants are excellent. If you want to visit Provincetown, that is only an hour's trip. You may be able to catch a fish from the shore, or there are charter boats which will take you out for bass and bluefish.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is only a short distance to stores, restaurants, and places to visit, but is off the main road and is quiet and peaceful.

Great place for two

  • 5 of 5

This is a very comfortable cottage for a couple. Fully equipped with everything you need for a great vacation. The bed was very comfortable! All we needed were towels and sheets. Loved being near the lighthouse and lighthouse beach. My husband was thrilled to walk to the beach every morning to fish! Even caught some stripers!

Location is great just was a bit disappointed that the interior was very outdated and didn't compare at all to the cottage's surroundings. It did have everything needed though, close to shopping and good beach.

Owner's Response: Over the past two years we've replaced the stove and the hot water heater, replaced window sills, the cupola, some shades, and had the exterior power- washed. We think we've been taking good care of the Barnacle. Over the next couple of years we'd like to replace the carpeting - probably with a wood floor, and upgrade the bathroom. Maybe replace the bedroom blinds completely. But these things take time to address, and questions about whether everything works (is the mattress in the bedroom comfortable?) take priority. We're glad that our guests felt they had everything that they needed, and enjoyed the location. If there was something in particular that the guests thought needed upgrading we would like to hear about it so that we could add it to our list.

Lovely small house...just perfect for 2.

  • 5 of 5

We love Chatham and it was lovely staying near Lighthouse Beach. The house is well maintained and comfortable. Russ was responsive to any and all inquiries and/or problems. The only thing is that the mattress needs replacing and Russ said that he would do that. Otherwise..Chatham is lovely and we were very happy with the house.

The Barnacle is a lovely cottage close to the beach and town. The cottage is clean, efficient----really quite charming! The shower has great water pressure---this was a very pleasant surprise!

Excellent Spot!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I plus our Golden Retiever spent a week here in mid August. The location was perfectly situated, just a short walk across some dunes to the beach which seemed frequented by more wildlife than people.... stunning. The cottage was cozy with all amenities from big screen iMac and printer for those google maps, flat screen TV and well stocked kitchen. We used the propane grill nearly every night, enjoying local seafood and vegetables. There was a nice little breakfast place within a morning dogs walk away. It was also a relatively short ( always depending on time of day ) drive up the coast to enjoy other picturesque beaches at the National Sea Shore and Provincetown. The cottage is adjacent to the owners home who was incredibly hospitable and provided a wealth of suggestions wittily described for supplies, restaurants and local knowledge. The pizza was killer! We had a terrific vacation and will definitely be going back in the future.

Lovely Cottage for Two

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented this cute little cottage because it was a short walk to the ocean across the sand dunes. We also like to walk to the Main Street shops and restaurants every day and discovered quiet side streets that passed by numerous historical houses and beautiful gardens behind the lighthouse. We generally rent in this area due to the quiet neighborhood and the convenience of walking to everything. We park the car once we arrive unless it is a drive to Route 28 for groceries.

The cottage is located near the nature area by Morris Island and we enjoy walking here for our daily exercise. We had a deer and a coyote cross the road in front of us as we made our way past the harbor and marsh land. This is a beautiful area of Chatham where nature abounds.

The cottage was well equipped and very clean. It was stocked with paper goods, garbage bags, cleaning supplies, etc. The bathroom included a full size tub/shower which is a rare but delightful feature in beach cottages. It is perfect for a single person or two people. The owner lives next door but we rarely saw them during our outings to the beach. The payment arrangements are very simple with no hidden fees. There is no written contract which is unusual but all worked out fine.

The only thing we did not enjoy was the soft mattress due to the style of the bed (we like a firm mattress). There was no box spring and the slats beneath the mattress kept slipping out of place despite fixing them each day.

We would definitely rent this cottage again and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a quiet and private location in Chatham but also likes the convenience of walking to town or the beach.

The beach is 600 feet away down a private path, and after a short walk down the beach you will find a large number of seals. A short walk from the cottage there is a marina which offers seal tours by boat - this is fun for kids.
