My name is Mavis Hall. I was born in Herefordshire, England and now live near Manchester.
Mavis Hall purchased this townhome in 2007
I first visited the island in 2007 with my husband and we enjoyed it so much we bought a property there. The white, sandy, almost deserted beaches were something we had never experienced before. We fell in love with the easy going, laid back lifestyle of the island and the friendliness of the Bahamian people.
We chose this property because it had been just completed to a high standard. The rooms were spacious and airy and well appointed. The villa is next to the beach with spectacular panoramic views from the balcony. It is only one mile from Georgetown where groceries etc can be purchased.
Villa 38 at Palm Bay Beach Club was in the perfect location for our trip to Exuma, it was clean, comfortable and everyone was so helpful. We had a wonderful time exploring the island, we hired a car for most of the time which was so easy as the office is right across the street from Palm Bay.
We went on trips to visit the swimming pigs and Iguanas, hired a boat and explored the bay, stopped off at Stocking Island for drinks and took our lunch out to an island that had the most amazing beach and no one else in sight!
The water and sand are amazing, i have never seen such crystal clear water. I'm not a big fan of the sea (too many fish!!) but even i spent most of the holiday in the water.
Splash Bar was great, my son and husband spent a lot of time playing pool. The food was good and the staff were all lovely and welcoming and so helpful.
There is not one thing i would change about our time on Exuma and Mavis, the owner of Villa 38, was great. She answered all my questions and made sure we had everything we needed.
We hope to be back this year but if not then for sure we'll be back next year.
Thanks Mavis and thanks Exuma
We have just returned from a ten day stay at villa 38. I can't recommend this property enough. The property is spacious, we are a family of five and there was plenty of room, the beds are huge and super comfy, there are individual ac machines in all the rooms which was convenient for us because we could could the room we were in, I hate those house wide systems that you can't control! There was very good internet in the villa which was a bonus, with three kids at some points we had five devices going at once with no problems! The balcony and grill are a bonus, we spent many evenings on the balcony listening to music and chatting to our neighbours.
The kitchen was really well equipped with a huge american fridge and the washer and drier was much appreciated. There were lots of sheets, beach towels and games to play, including Connect 4 ! A blast from the past which our kids loved.
It was really clean and if anything the photos don't really do it justice. Hideaways itself is a great resort with lots going on but still a very quiet and chilled out place. It was a bonus being able to walk to other bars and the fish fry and even Georgetown in about 25 mins.
Mavis was really easy to deal with, very helpful and accommodating (we missed our flight) and returned our deposit in a couple of days.
In our opinion you can't really go wrong with this place. We will be back.
My husband, 9 year old and myself stayed at Villa 38 the last week of June. We had such a terrific time that we started planning another trip before we even left! The property manager, Kingsley was great and was available to answer any questions. Prior to our arrival Mavis shared a lot of helpful tips and answered all my questions, truly a pleasure to do business with.
The villa is better then described, larger then expected and very clean, it was perfect for our family. My son enjoyed snorkeling around at the beach in front of the villa, both he and my husband spent a lot of free time kayaking and with Jolly Hall Beach a quick walk away the location could not be better.
Our first full day we took the water taxi to Stocking Island and hiked around for a few hours. The views were stunning and we did not see another person or footprint! I recommend renting a car (we used Thompsons). We spent a day driving to the tip of the Island (where the highway ends) during low tide and enjoyed the most incredible sandbar, saw giant starfish and no other people. While up that way we also visited a cave near Exuma Point were a gentleman used to live, it was very neat to explore. A day at Little Exuma is a must. Tropic of Cancer beach is simply breathtaking. While on Little Exuma we enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Santanas and bought a fresh from the oven rum cake for Moms Bakery next door, delicious! I highly recommend Roberts Island Adventures for the full day Cays Tour. Capt. Will was professional and knowledgeable and First Mate CJ made us feel at ease when snorkeling the Grotto. Not only did we go to the sandbar, grotto, iguanas and pigs but made additional stops on the return, we all agreed that it was one of the best days we have ever had. We also enjoyed a great day on the water with a boat from Minns. It was nice moving at our own pace and a lot of fun finding different reefs to snorkel and simply enjoying the water and amazing beaches. I cannot say enough about how beautiful Great Exuma is and how welcoming every we saw was. I cannot wait to go back!
We have been to many places in the Caribbean and this has to be at the top of our list! The Condo was beautiful and exactly what we were looking for. There are two master bedrooms on the first floor both with king size beds and baths/showers. Upstairs there is a large kitchen/dining/family area. The kitchen is stocked, but I didn't cook (on vacation, really). We did heat up stuff. We used the washer and dryer as well that was provided. I'm not a morning person, but I couldn't wait to get up with the sunrise and sit outside on the deck to watch it! It was the perfect view for the sunrise and I got some good pictures. The location is perfect. It's right near everything you would need. If you come in on Sunday be prepared that the groceries will probably not be open. It's a laid back island. If you go out of the hotel to the right you will come upon a grocery, a meat market and an odds and ends store by the meat market. If you go to the left, you will go into Georgetown which you will find a grocery store, the dock and little shops you can shop in. We didn't try every restaurant on the island, we packed our lunch a couple of days. The Splash was good, and we ate at Charlies one night. Both were good. One night we went across the island to Catch a Fire to watch the sunset, pricey but good. We explored many of the beaches. Jolly Hall is just down the way if you go left on the beach out of the condo and take that to the road, cross the road and it's a nice beach (say hi to Brad and his dog, Sandy Beach, selling coconuts along the way! We also explored Hoopers Bay where you can swim with the turtles. They love squid from the nearby market. We also went to Tropic of Cancer Beach and Emerald Bay beach. You can snorkel around the rocks right off of our beach. There are a lot of starfish out there. On a "calm" day you can snorkel at three sisters rocks (we didn't get to). Don't miss out on taking a full day tour through the Cays. My favorite snorkel spot was definitely Thunderball Grotto. My family also liked seeing the Iguana's on Nicholas Cage's Island and swimming with the pigs. I tried to have a Tim McGraw sighting because he was at his island at the time, but only saw his boat crew (that was disappointing). We also dove with Exuma Dive (Tamara and Jonathon are great). We dove three dives, the reef, the tug boat wreck and the blue hole. One can't go to Exuma without spending the day at the Chat'N'Chill and feed the stingrays!
The villa is well apportioned with all amenities and comforts of a home away from home. The villa is central to the island and is within walking distance of nearby grocery stores and deli/butcher shops. Ron, the butcher shop owner, runs a well-stocked shop with a variety of fresh meats and unique to villa, was the barbecue on the balcony. If you prefer to eat out rather than cook in, there are resort restaurants all within walking distance. If you prefer to experience local culinary, there are shacks at the Fish Fry, which have specialties like conch salad and grouper fingers. The culture of the island is very friendly and the locals are genuinely appreciative of tourists visiting their island. The villa is situated on the beach and with a short 5 minute walk along the shoreline you’ll arrive at Jolly Hall beach. The beach is exclusive with traits unique to the iconic Bahamian beach with icing sugar soft sand and memorable turquoise waters. After viewing the sunrise from the balcony at the villa, Jolly Hall beach provides an ideal setting for any runner or walker or swimmer to soak up the sun before heading out for the day. There are numerous excursions to do, whether it’s taking the water taxi across to Stocking Island for the day or renting a car and touring to explore other exclusive beaches with scenic views.
This is our fourth visit to the island, and our first stay at this villa. The villa has WiFi internet which was great for us to maintain contact with family and friends while we spent the Christmas season on holiday.
Thank you, Mavis for your hospitality and attentiveness to making arrangements upon our arrival such as the taxi pickup. The villa is in an exquisite cleanliness state. We will be recommending this villa to our friends and family, and can’t wait for our next trip back.
We have stayed at this villa before and this trip just confirms what a wonderful place it is to stay. It has a very large living room with balcony that has stupendous views over Elizabeth Harbour. In the mornings the sun rises out of a shimmering sea flooding the bedroom with light - what a wonderful way to wake up.
The villa is sort of upside down with the bedrooms on the ground floor and living room upstairs - to take advantage of the great views. It is quite small as resorts go and everybody is more than helpful and obliging.
There is a shuttlebus to take you into town (about 1 1/2 miles), but the local restaurants are an easy walk away.
We have been here a week and when we arrived the villa was ready for us, clean and with all amenities we might require. Unfortunately we are leaving in a couple of day - but we will return!
