About Lisa Freeman
We love to travel and are semi retired. Stationed in 1981 to Langley Air Force Base and never left the area. Very nice diversity in the 5 surrounding cities. We have hosted many wonderful people from all over the world. The photo attached is us standing on the local fishing pier in Norfolk.
Lisa Freeman purchased this House in 2003
Why Lisa Freeman chose Willoughby Spit
This house is like being out to sea on a ship. The water is so close. The location makes for wonderful breezes in the summer, (zero insects). The views will take your breath away. Close to 5 cities (all within 20 minutes)! We love the area, especially walking on the beach collecting shells and sea glass. City of Norfolk is nice to visit, safe and not too large, USS Wisconsin, a fabulous botanical gardens and a zoo. premier outlet mall, all packed into our city of 280,000. Don't forget Water Country USA in Williamsburg and Busch Gardens. Lots to do.
What makes this House unique
STILTED HOUSE FOR EXCEPTIONAL VIEWS. BALCONIES OVER WATER. NAVY BASES ARE CLOSE AS WELL AS MANY HISTORICAL SITES.

Dated property with extreme noise levels
This property is pretty dated and needs some TLC. There were water stains all over the ceilings, broken furniture and the flooring on the main level is separating. The reservation process is nightmare as the owner doesn't accept credit cards through VRBO, you must mail checks to them. The information listed in VRBO regarding the house wasn't correct (wifi passwords, etc) and the owner didn't tell us there was a binder with that information until I emailed her on day 2 requesting the information. The listing fails to mention that there are 3 flights of stairs to get to the house and another 3 flights to the bedrooms on the second floor. This would have been helpful to know as I was traveling with my parents, who had a hard time with all the steps. The other piece of missing information is the high volume of aircraft noise the house is in the middle of. There were helicopters nonstop throughout the day and into the night that were extremely loud. The hot tub was pretty much useless to us as it is placed about 4 feet up on blocks with a wooden stairway placed next to it to access it. The stairs did not have any kind of tread or anything on them to prevent falls and it just looked like an accident waiting to happen. The railing on one of the upper decks was loose and needs to be repaired, if someone were to lean on it they would definitely fall. After going to the grocery store and stocking up for the week we found the kitchen was full of ants. We went out and purchased ant traps and spray and were able to get rid of them. I emailed the owner regarding the ants and she was unable to help out in any way. In her defense, she said her husband was in the hospital and was quite ill which is why she was unable to help. The owners seemed quite pleasant and were accommodating when we wanted to make changes before our stay but the house just wasn't what we were hoping for.
Clean and well maintained
This house has a great view and everything was labeled and worked perfectly. We enjoyed our visit. The owner Lisa even left my wife a happy birthday balloon!! Nice touch.
The home was lovely
Stayed with my daughter for my birthday, the property was very comfortable with a lovely view
Dissappointed - The pictures are nicer than the house
PROS - location to sites--takes pets- bay view was nice
CONS- too many steps to tote luggage - beach down the road- upkeep/cleanliness of house was poor - to many housekeeping duties- old bedlinens- no sense of feng shui, a Sheldon Cooper rental agreement - archaic check only payment plan (goodbye credit card points and VRBO sense of security).
We had a very good time - very relaxing right on the water
We had never rented a house before, so this was a new experience for us, being an older couple we were looking for a relaxed comfortable place near the water and this was it. Beautiful home and near places we wanted to visit, like Virginia Beach, James Town Settlement, Virginia Aquarium, and the boat trips to see the dolphins. The only draw backs for us was the helicopter and jet noise and stairs, but we expected the stairs. The sunsets were unbelievably beautiful. Stanley, the goose was entertaining and he brought his friends each day for nibbles of bread. The owners were great and we recommend staying in their properties. Pete & Sharon Collyge
House is functional and is equipped but had some issues
Roof work had to be done this week, which did impact our stay one day. Also had to fix a few things while I was there. Owners are very nice and were apologetic which helped! We did have a nice time though. Sunsets were amazing on back deck!!!
Very sorry about the storm damage to the roof, which impacted your stay. We inspect the property between visitors. I believe you repaired a vacuum, however we do have two, one for each floor. Thank you.
