Gorgeous views and perfect location!
We had an amazing time staying at Paul's beautiful beach house. It was hard to say goodbye. We will definitely be back.
This place is great
Ocean front, very comfortable, outstanding location between Dana Point and San Clemente, well kept-up. One of those spots where it's easy to have a great day doing nothing other than staying at the place and enjoying what it has to offer.
Breathtaking - Beyond Our Expectations
To put it quite simply, this place is beautiful and just as described. The pictures didn’t do it justice as it is even more stunning in person.
When we walked through the side yard and into the kitchen, you could see the ocean through the window. Then you walk into the living/dining room and really get a spectacular view of the ocean through the picture windows. These rooms are, without a doubt, the star of the house, as they are bright and spacious and truly feel like a beach house/cottage. The bedrooms and baths are very nice, as well.
The house is fully stocked with a blender (thank goodness because I forgot mine for my morning smoothies), toaster, coffee maker, spices, towels, beach chairs and large screen TV with DVR. The patio lends to the view as we sat on the chairs and enjoyed the ocean, during the day and at night. The furniture inside and outside is very comfortable, and the Wifi worked flawlessly the whole time during our stay.
Steps lead directly down to the beach, but the back yard was so close to the surf, we didn't feel the need to sit on the beach. Not sure we could have anyway as the surf was high tide most of the time with the waves coming over the wall onto the back yard, which we absolutely loved! At night we opened the window in the bedroom and listened to the surf all night.
We also brought our dogs and simply kept them on their leashes since the patio is not fenced. You wouldn’t want it to be because it would take away from the reason you are there, the ocean! The home feels very safe and is located in a guarded gated community.
Finally, another plus to this rental is Paul. He is absolutely wonderful to work with! He’s very congenial and nice, and he gets back to you quickly with any questions you may have.
If we could have given this property more than 5 stars, we would have. It was, by far, the nicest vacation property we have ever stayed at! We would love to stay here again.
Adorable and relaxing cottage on the beach!
We absolutely loved our stay at this adorable beach house! I love how when you walk through the gate you immediately have a glimpse of the ocean waiting for you. Then, again, as you enter the house with all the huge windows, more amazing views of the waves and the ever expansive ocean. Sigh...I miss it terribly. We’re definitely planning another trip here in the future.
The interior of the home is very warm and cozy. I really felt at home during our stay. The kitchen was well stocked and easy to use as well as the bathrooms. I love the decor and all the white wood walls (ship lap?) that made it nice and bright inside every day. The bedrooms were comfortable and the noise from the train and the waves wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be while we slept. So that was good.
There were only a few things we had to work through that were minor but might be worth mentioning. The first being the high tides. I had really hoped for walks on the beach daily but we settled for the first two nights we were there close to sunset. That’s when the tide was lower those days. But we had to be kind of resourceful for me to actually get onto the sand because of my physical disabilities with chronic pain as well as the lack of bottom step on the stairs.(Probably washed away from the strong waves.) So my husband was able to find a ladder after we had asked the owner if he had one. (The owner always did his best to accommodate any of our needs.). My husband and my daughter helped me use it as a bottom step to get down on the beach. Thankfully, it worked but was a bit tricky with the waves being higher than expected at low tide. I’m definitely no expert on the tide but it’s something to consider or ask about if your plan is to be on the beach more during your stay. The only other thing to mention would be the temperature in the dining area during the heat of the day. The air conditioning works great everywhere else in the house but doesn’t quite reach that area very well. Thankfully, we brought a few extra small fans that helped but a providing a large fan for that area would definitely help when you have to be inside during the higher tides that come up onto the grass area. So aside from those few minor things our stay here was FANTASTIC!!! The Beautiful views of the ocean made it all the more enjoyable. This trip was such a blessing for our family! Thanks again to Paul, the owner, for all of his help during our time there! We can’t wait to come back! Kim B.
Thank you for the nice review! New windows are being installed, so the house will be much quieter and cooler. The stairs leading to the beach were immediately repaired after your stay. I look forward to hosting your family in the future..
Absolutely gorgeous home literally on the sand!
This home is beautiful! It is everything and more than the listing can show! When you walk on to the property you feel as if you are in Hawaii with tropical plants lining the entrance. The kitchen has all new flooring, appliances and cabinets. The large living room area fronts the house with floor to ceiling windows that look at the ocean. We call it the floating house because all you see is the ocean when you look out from the dining room table! The bedrooms are comfortable and cozy. One of the bedrooms has 5 bunk beds! Comfortable for all sizes. The bathrooms have new flooring and cabinets as well. The outdoor living space is gorgeous. The dining space by the outdoor grill has a huge new teak table and chairs. You can’t ask for a better view of the sunset than that. There is a lawn that fronts the ocean with plenty of chairs and a big umbrella. It is built up off the water with 10 steps down to sand. The surrounding towns are Dana Point and San Clemente both within biking distance. Both towns have great restaurants and San Clemente has a fantastic farmers market on Sundays where you can buy fresh fruits and veggies right from the farmers. We bought fresh fish that was great!
I would highly recommend this home. It is truly a “vacation” and a wonderful spot for family and friends to relax and reconnect. The owner is nearby and is available if needed. He has put lots of personal touches in the home. It is well stocked with essentials ie paper products, cleaning and laundry supplies etc. There is always a huge vase of fresh flowers when we arrive. I wish I was there now!!!!
It was a nice stay with family.
Our stay was nice. Luxury in not the word we would use . We would say comfortable. It needs some maintenance /repairs and replacement of damaged patio furniture and update to modern appliances and a grill that actual worked properly. Although the beach was only steps away from the staircase( which needs some love) it was only available right at low tide. Giving a limited amount of time to use the beach and for swimming safely. Unfortunately, that is what our plan was and had asked prior to the reservation, so we were very disappointed. Family enjoyed our evening in side not on the deck.We weren't able to use it due to the rocks and water that emerges during high tide. The worse and not known prior was the train . It was so loud. Weekdays were the worse. It went from very early morning into late night. The home is very pet friendly with grass on deck and a gate to close. Community is pet friendly but there isn't good walking.
I really wasn't going to write a review but I felt like those that want to be on the beach ,feet in the sand and want to take a morning run on the beach or a sunset walk stroll would want to know.
We enjoyed the stay after all the disappointments because we were with family and that's what it was all about.
This being the only 3 star review for the home(almost all are 5 star), a response is necessary.
All of the teak patio furniture was upgraded and replaced after your stay as well as some of the appliances. The grill works fine and maintenance/repairs are constant.
Your trip was during a King tide when sand time is limited, although there is plenty of beach during low tides. The lawn area makes the house special as it is a nice place to sit during high tides. Many guests use it during all tides, preferring it to the beach.
Many families frequently return and are familiar with the train on Beach Road. It is not constant so overall it is not an issue. It can be heard from the street side of the homes and you should be aware of it prior to arriving.
