A charming well appointed house in a beautiful location. The house has a large fenced backyard with BBQ, fire pit, and seating. In the back, you can walk up a sand berm to a breathtaking view of the water. There are plenty of beach accessories provided: beach chairs, boogie boards, children's sand toys. The location is a brief walk to the beach or a 2 minute drive to the public beach, pool, golf, tennis, and restaurant.

I found the place by accident escaping hurricane Irma, but Pat (the owner) could not have been kinder or more accommodating. Our pets were at home and relaxed at the house. They also enjoyed the dog friendly beach. It was all a wonderful surprise.

I plan on coming back for a family reunion next year.

Thanksgiving on the beach

  • 5 of 5

The family gathered for Thanksgiving and had a great time. The beach walks were perfect. There were very few people, it was almost like having your own private beach. The house was comfortable and the back yard relaxing. This was our second time and as good as the first.

Loved the island and the house!

  • 5 of 5

The house and location were exactly as described. We loved the location as it offered more than directly on the beach. We loved the nature, the birds, having a grill, campfire ring, the pines, the dunes, everything! The bed and pillows were so comfy! This may seem silly, but the air conditioner was nice and cool. We made very good use of the washer, dryer, and dishwasher. Having a twice weekly trash pick up was very convenient. The owner was amazing. We were faced with hurricane Nate and were undecided on what to do. The owner was VERY HELPFUL in communicating with us the status of the home and island. She forwarded lots of information to help in our decision making. The location on the island really protected the home and we were able to go, 1 day late. The owner was generous and worked with us on our late arrival. While the west end typically has more beach front, had we had reservations on the west end, our trip would have been ruined. This was only a cat 1 hurricane and the road to the west end was covered with up to 6ft sand. If making a decision on west end vs east end and it’s hurricane season, go with this house. There was no damage getting to or on the property. It is very protected by the dune. Circumstances were such that we were able to stay an extra day. Dauphin Island is a natural, extremely laid back, and friendly place. We will definitely be back and will probably be staying at this rental again!

Owner's Response: Thank you for this review. It shows some of the reasons this house is a good fit for vacations, even though it is not directly on the beach. The dunes behind the house are not only beautiful, but protect the house during storms, and they give great privacy in the back yard. I hope others will try this house for their vacations.
