Located in the midst of 1000's of acres of conservation land on the pristine south shore at Madaquecham Beach, 'Al Mare' is the perfect spot for a family seeking an escape to their private piece of paradise on this wonderful island. Whether it's surf casting for stripers and blues on the beach, watching the sunset, or dining al fresco on the wrap-around deck, this beach house and its location delivers a relaxing and re-energizing experience.
The first floor has a large Great Room with a cathedral ceiling, a working fireplace, large flatscreen TV and picture windows on three sides looking out towards the ocean. This area connects through double archways to a newly remodeled kitchen with updated appliances and bead board cabinets. Two ocean view bedroom/bathroom suites flank the living area and have their own individual doors out to the wrap-around deck with plenty of chaises, lounges and chairs. The deck also has a patio table with umbrella which is the perfect lunch location. The East suite has a new Bunk Room (with 4 Bunks) and second bedroom with East and South (Ocean facing ) windows and a queen bed. The West suite has both South and West (Ocean facing) windows with a queen size bed. Both 1st floor suites have their own newly updated bathrooms.
The second floor is accessed by a staircase in the entrance hallway. There are again two bedrooms and a bathroom with tub and shower. The North bedroom has a vaulted ceiling, a queen bed and large windows with spectacular East and West views of the ocean and beach. The South bedroom has two twin beds and a double bed....great for kids and an aupair. Its windows look out to the South shore. An outdoor shower is located off the back door at the bottom of the staircase.
You arrive at the house on dirt roads through the conservation land. It is 2 miles from Milestone Road, a main road which bisects the Island and connects Nantucket town to the village of Siasconset. Town is approximately 4 miles from the house.

We are a family from the New York area who have been coming to Nantucket for 30 years and love the island.
Owner purchased this House in 1995
Why Owner chose Madequecham
After renting houses all over Nantucket and seeing many areas of the island becoming more built up, we wanted a place that was uncrowded, offered privacy and was on the ocean. Madaquecham Valley was the ideal location.
What makes this House unique
We have a pristine beautiful beach practically to ourselves just steps down a bluff from the house. Sunsets are spectacular. Surf-casting can sometimes provide dinner. Walks along the beach and along roads through the conservation area offer great exercise and beautiful views.

Great Ocean Retreat
Six of us spent a week here. The house is set back about 100 feet from a twenty foot ocean bluff with private stairs leading down to a miles long, little used beach. All of the rooms and decks have great views of the ocean. The bedrooms are quite large and have desks - attractive for down time away from your group. The two downstairs bedrooms have doors out onto the deck. The few neighboring houses along this stretch of the coast are at least two hundred yards away.
The kitchen is well equipped. We made most of our meals at the house - eating just lunches out as we explored the island. There are shops selling lobster, scallops and other fresh seafood around the island and lots of local produce to bring back.
There are a good number of books, including guides to and novels about Nantucket, which my wife particularly enjoyed.
The waterfront of the village of Nantucket is perhaps 13 minutes away by car - the grocery store (Stop and Shop) and adjacent pharmacy and liquor store are closer. The 2 miles of gravel, then sand road that get you to the house have to be driven slowly, particularly the sand part because of the undulations that build up. Our rental car handled it fine and it doesn't take many trips to the crowded and touristy village to make you welcome the quiet of this house. There is a nearby airport. Most of the time, the planes are using the main runway and don't come near the house. A couple of times during the week, the smaller cross runway was in use which brought small airplanes close. I don't think the bigger planes could use that runway.
The owners were helpful and attentive. To make sure everything was OK, they had been at the house a couple of days before we arrived and then called us after we arrived.
A great place to spend time with friends or family and enjoy the beach, the view, and the island.
If you enjoy privacy, natural beauty, and oceanfront living in a lovely house that has just about everything you need then this is the place for you. We spent a week here - the weather not great the entire time - and enjoyed every minute. The views, the wildlife, the sunrises and sunsets, and the ocean all were breathtaking! We would come back in a minute!
