The estate is one hour south of the Pisa airport and is located on the spectacular Etruscan Coast between the towns of San Vincenzo and Piombino. It overlooks the Gulf of Baratti and other beaches that have been awarded the Bandiera Blu (Blue Flag) designation for their pristine condition. It is an ideal location for day trips to Florence, Siena, Pisa, Montalcino and Volterra. The area is renown for its beauty and is ideal for hiking and cycling as well as all water sports. There are outstanding restaurants ranging from authentic rustic Tuscan cooking to world class elegant and romantic. There are several spas nearby and three Medieval villages that are just minutes away. An active archeological dig is adjacent to the estate and local museum house Etruscan artifacts, a pre-Roman civilization that populated the area. Tours and tastings at outstanding nearby wineries can be arranged. Private cooking classes are also available as well as guided day trips and archeological visits.
About: The land the villa was built on has been in my family since the 1600s. My great-grandfather built the villa in 1923. Most of my cousins in my generation have been married on the estate, including myself.
Why Piombino LI, Italy:
The villa was the summer home of my great-grandparents. And when they passed away, my grandmother and her sisters divided the villa into apartments. My apartment is on the 'noble floor.' The main bedroom in the apartment was my grandmother's bedroom, therefore we call it Nonna Alba's room. The second bedroom was the former bedroom of my great aunt, therefore we call it Zia Cicci's room. The villa was recently restored, was the setting for an Italian mini-series and featured in Casa magazine.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
My great-grandfather built a chapel in the 1950's. There are also pre-war (world war II) bunkers on the estate as well as an active olive grove. Our beach is a semi-private rocky beach accessible by car only by family members or guests of the villa (which in part explains its semi-private status as no beach is truly private in Italy). There are walking paths throughout the estate and one that leads to a sandy beach.
