About Suzanne Balter
Growing up in Michigan, Charlevoix has been our summer vacation destination since childhood, and the full-time home of many family members. After moving to Oregon, we purchased this summer home to stay connected with family and to be able to enjoy our ideal vacation every summer. Swimming, sailing, bicycling, canoeing - we do it all.
Suzanne Balter purchased this House in 2000
Why Suzanne Balter chose Charlevoix
We rented this house ourselves in 2000, fell in love with it, and purchased it before the summer was over. While the location was perfect, the house needed a lot of work. We renovated from top to bottom, expanding the porch, putting in a new kitchen and master bedroom/bathroom, along with more mundane things like a new roof, windows and siding. And then we spent a year decorating and furnishing the house in summer cottage style. The completed home was featured on the Charlevoix home tour in 2002.

Two Great Weeks
All the other reviews are spot on! This never felt like a rental. It was someone’s home! A bonus was making friends with the wonderful neighbors !
Great location, beautiful home, and tons of space!
We enjoyed every minute in this home. The owner has shared the spirit of the home with her guests.
The furnishings are charming, the beds comfortable and we felt that we were staying in a friends home. Sitting on the front porch was a favorite pastime. The tree lined streetscape gave us a constant parade of neighbors walking or biking to their destinations. Walking to Bridge Street and all the town activities was very convenient. The kitchen was well stocked and the home clean. We took away many happy family memories. JMK
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely home in Charlevoix.
This home is located in a lovely, quiet neighborhood within walking distance to town, beaches, and parks. Many good hiking trails are nearby and biking options are many. The house is beautifully decorated and carefully maintained. Every room is comfortable and has its own charm. The large deck was our favorite gathering place for family dinners which also provided a play area for the children. We all enjoyed a memorable week here and will make this a destination again.
We're so happy you enjoyed your stay at our home in Charlevoix. The back deck and the front porch are such wonderful gathering spots for families! Look forward to having you stay with us again.
Beautiful and charming house. Close walk to downtown and the beach! H.
We had an a amazing time in Charlevoix this year and really enjoyed this beautiful home. There was plenty of space for us and our guests and Pam was more than helpful to us! We especially loved the charm of each room and the 'homey' feel throughout. While we had such a great time I will say the layout of the house is very interesting! You can only get to a few of the bedrooms by going either up the back stairs or through another bedroom, which normally would not be an issue if we didn't have little ones. Overall though it was a great experience and we could not have had a better vacation.
Wonderful family home with lots of amenities!
Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Charlevoix. The house was wonderful and we enjoyed having access to Lake MI and Lake Charlevoix. Being new to the area, we visited various beaches (our favorite was Mt. McSauba), spent a day at Mackinac Island, toured Castle Farms and the Mushroom houses. The kids had a lot of fun looking for petoskey stones too. We cooked dinner in the home numerous nights, and the kitchen was nicely stocked and had good cookware (a lot of rentals disappoint in this area). So glad we rented this house - we have wonderful memories from our week here.
