Highly recommend (although I don’t much care for the assigned homework essay here 😆)
Great location and cool house
This funky little house was a blast to stay in and we loved the top floor and it’s views.
Thank you for the review - yes, Captain's House is not only a unique property that Sanctuary Vacation Rentals represents, but that top floor and the views - wow! We look forward to your next visit to the Monterey Peninsula.
Perfect location, fantastic views
This is one of our favorite PG destinations. The location is perfect--no car is required. But if you have a car, the off-street parking is a plus. The house is very clean and the kitchen is well-stocked. It is a 3-story house so of course there are stairs. I highly recommend this property.
May 2018 Stay
Beautiful house with so much character. Had an amazing time with my family. Perfect location, clean and happy it was pet friendly!
We loved everything about our stay at the captains castle! The house was very unique and we loved reading about the history of the house. Location was also great and we couldn’t believe there were Mom and baby seals at the beach across the street from the house. I highly recommend staying here!
Great Location, Great Charm, Slightly Challenging
Overall we really enjoyed this house. The location is amazing, just across the walking path between Lover's Point and the Aquarium. Both are easy walking distance, even for the grandparents with a little less mobility.
The décor of the house is fantastic. So many elements have been maintained in antique fashion. All the electrically switches are decades old. The kitchen has been nicely updated to modern standards with a Viking stove and Subzero fridge.
The had two minor challenges. The first was the stairs. They are true to the period, by which I mean they are steeper and narrower than what would be built today. We have stayed in a couple houses of this time period and they are all the same. The stairs were not an issue for the parents and kids in our party. The grandparents on the other hand found them just a bit challenging. Two of the grandparents have bad knees and just had to take their time, but could get up in to the tower to experience the amazing sunsets. The other issue is the showers. The upstairs shower has a pull down chain to run the water, so you have to hold it down the entire time you want the water to run. Stop to put on shampoo and the water does too. The downstairs shower does not have this issue, but with seven in our party we needed to use both showers.
I would stay here again on future visits, but I would also consider the other options in the area and look around before booking.
The Monterey Peninsula is unique in its combination of breathtaking natural resources and a multiplicity of cultural and entertainment possibilities. You can find something for every possible taste. For nature lovers, there is the diversity of mountain and sea, for picnicking, surfing, fishing, horseback riding, hiking, beach combing, bird-watching, kayaking, scuba diving, tide pooling, biking and more. If you want a man-made excitement, we have art galleries galore, excellent fine-art museums, local theater, outstanding restaurants, boutiques, a natural history and a children's museum, a world-class aquarium, and that's just for starters. History buffs will have a field day exploring the adobes of Monterey. There's so much to do that you cannot possibly do it all in one visit, which means you will have to come back.
