Truly a gem
We recently spent a week in this lovely home, and had one of the best vacations of our lives. If you enjoy kayaking, birdwatching, beachcombing (we found dozens of sharks teeth), fishing, crabbing, boating or watersports of any kind, I can guarantee you will not find a better location to indulge yourselves. The small beach on the property was shallow and calm for the little ones in our family, and the deeper waters near the dock provided ample opportunity for a larger boat to maneuver. Members of our family knee-boarded, kayaked, fished and tubed to their hearts content. The huge kitchen with double ovens and stoves made for easy family dining, along with the huge dining room table.
During the week, we saw the egret who is nesting on the boat house, and its fledgings, and the hummingbirds continually visited the feeder just outside the kitchen window. Egrets, herons, dolphins and rays were all spotted throughout the week. We took our beachcombing finds to the Aurora Fossil museum and the knowledgeable staff there helped us identify some wonderful finds! Our children asked to go back to the museum twice, but it's honestly just hard to leave this spacious, quiet home once you get here. Beautifully arranged with nice quality furniture and linens, this is a cut above an ordinary vacation rental, I would say the furnishings are more in line with a B and B.
We found provided some supplies for coastal living, like life jackets, a wonderful tandem kayak, sand toys, a crab pot or two, and some pantry basics which are a lifesaver if you're not ready for a full trip to buy groceries. Annie Caroline was gracious and caring to work with, and responsive. This location, straddling Durham Creek on one side of the point, and the Pamlico River on the other, is truly unique. I don't wonder that this family has treasured this property for generations. You will enjoy the serenity, stunning panoramic views and wildlife.
The most relaxing experience
My wife and I have had 40 years of vacations and this vacation spot is in our top five. We spent a week with our two daughters and their families and my wife's parents; a total of 10. There was so much space in the house and places to relax on the property that, if I was looking for someone in our group, I would have to occasionally use my cell phone. The age range of our group was eight to 75 and everyone loved their stay. You can spend a week boating, fishing, crabbing, hiking, or just plain sitting and reading on the lawn, one of the porches, on the hammock, or relaxed on a leather sofa. The area is very rural but there are two cities, Washington (North Carolina) and New Bern, less than an hour away and the free ferry over to Bath is just a few miles away. If you’re looking to get away and relax and still have all the comforts of home, then this is the place. Our family was planning a cruise for our vacation next year but everyone wants to know if we can return here.
3 families 9 individuals, 1 relaxing week, priceless
To our hostess thankyou, thankyou, thankyou. Garrisons Point was beyond our expectations and the enviroment was astonishling beautiful. Much of our days were spent doing absolutely nothing but enjoying the screen porch and hammock with a good book or an iced beverage. Many times throughout the day we would explore our surroundings either by foot, bicycle, kayak. We found that many of our adventures were down along the river looking for shark teeth or fossils. One day I spent several hours in the kayak exploring Durham Creek and had the opportunity to get an amazing picture of an eagle as it perched high atop a dead pine tree over looking the water. Dolphins would swim by every evening at one point we counted 12 as they made their way up and down the river. We were lured to the historic district of Bath where we explored the Marsh-Palmer house, the old court house and the old high school as well as the beautiful landscaped gardens and homes. Deer were plentiful on Garrisons Point and are moving throughout the entire day and we enjoyed the exciment of catching a glimspe of one of these beautiful creatures. The house more than provided the comforts of home. The home had the feel of how it was "back in the day". You could almost hear the sound of fishermen as they would come home with their catch of flounder, crab or drum. We left our own legacy as we added to the excitment of the home catching our meal of flounder and blue crab. This was definetly the most relaxing and fun filled time I have experienced on vacation in a long, long time. To those of you who are seriously considering Garrisons Point, you will not be denied the comforts of home nor the excitment of adventure for any age. Once again I thank our hostess and her son for putting together a wonder portfolio of their splendid home. On the return trip home we were preparing for next years vacation in hopes of returning to Garrisons Point.
We just returned form staying at this property. It is the most peaceful place that we've ever spent a vacation. There are plenty of things to do within driving distance. We rented a pontoon boat for the week at a local marina that allowed us to enjoy Durham Creek and the Pamlico River. The fishing was fun and the kids ennjoyed tubing on the river. Great place!!!!
