Overview

About the property

2BR, 1 BA spacious loft apartment. Family friendly, pets welcome.

The Flat is located above the fun French bistro, Foufou, in the heart of Traverse City, making it a fantastic home base for any of the fun festivals that happen throughout the year. A parking spot is provided in the lot across the street (a coup in the city!).

There are two bedrooms. One bedroom has a king sized bed. The second bedroom has two twin beds. There is a living area with a TV (dvd player), a dining area, which we have set for 4, but the table can extend to seat 12. The kitchen has a four burner electric stove, refrigerator and dishwasher. There is a coffee pot and a pantry stocked with the basics. The bathroom has a shower/bath and a full sized washer and dryer.

The apartment is clean, comfortable and an easy place to be. Dogs are welcome. We call this a loft because the bedroom walls to not reach to the (exposed) ceilings, so you can hear everything.

The apartment is accessed via the alley, in a separate entrance from the restaurant. It is private, well lit and secure. Guests find the space to be bigger than they expected. It is well furnished, yet sparse, which I think creates a sense of calm.

About Brooke Hazael-Massieux

We are Brooke & Guillaume Hazael-Massieux. We moved to Leelanau county in 2006 when we bought La Becasse, a French country restaurant in Burdickville. Like many before us, we fell for the region hard and fast! In 2012 we opened Bistro Foufou in Traverse City and at the same time leased the charming apartment above the restaurant.

Why Brooke Hazael-Massieux chose Traverse City

The Flat, as we have taken to calling the space, is a fun loft apartment with an urban feel. It provides an excellent home base for Traverse City fun. We stayed here with our kids and puppy for a weekend last winter, and enjoyed being so close to everything. The entry is private, and the apartment is spacious. I can see also using the flat to host a small group if you are in town for a wedding. A parking space is included, which is a huge boon if you are driving. And, of course we are biased, but we think it would be fun to stay so close to a fun French bistro and would take advantage of eating in the restaurant or hanging out at the bar, and some nights simply getting food to go and enjoying the great apartment.

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is easy to access, it's got great natural light, has the basics covered and is a fun way to vacation.

Great Location

  • 4 of 5

Right in downtown TC. Just a few steps from the bay, shopping, and dining. Pictures represent apartment very well. I was greeted by the restaurant manager who took me through the restaurant kitchen to the back stairs up to the apartment. Main entrance to apartment is from side alley. First impression a bit concerning until you get to apartment which is quite comfortable and clean. Plenty of towels, linens, etc... You can't beat location but know that if TC is busy, you may hear the party goers late into the evening from side alley as well as garbage dispensing and pick up. Restaurant below itself very quiet. This is a great place that could be made excellent with just a few minor tweaks: a call from owners prior to arrival to see if there are any questions (never actually spoke with owners), a welcome of some sort (i.e. a personal note etc...). Sometimes the little touches make the difference. Still a great place and I would highly recommend if you can handle a bit of noise.

Great Location, Clean and Comfortable Flat

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time staying in this apartment. It's clean, spacious and provides easy access to the beach, park, downtown etc. Highly recommended! We'll be staying here again. The only minor issue is the garbage truck that come through the alley at the crack of dawn. It didn't bother us, but if you're a light sleeper, bring earplugs. Great host, easy communication.

Location, Location, Location

  • 5 of 5

This is the 11th year that my sisters & I have been coming to Traverse City and the 4th year we have rented the Loft, above Bistro FouFou. 1/2 block from Front Street makes it the best location for lodging in the city, as far as we are concerned! It is an awesome property and we will be reserving for next summer. Upon our arrival, we found the air conditioning not working, but the owner, Brooke, contacted the maintenance group right away to get it working again, ASAP.

The Loft comes with a parking space right behind the building, which makes it convenient, should you decide to do some day trips or the wine tours.

Thanks, Brooke, for the amazing accomodations! We love it.

Our apartment is located in downtown Traverse City, giving travelers the convenience of easy access to restaurants, movies (The State Theater!), shops, churches, banks, and grocery stores. And, this being Traverse City, the beach is a stone's throw away, easily accessed by foot or bike. Winery tours of Old Mission Peninsula and Leelanau County make for amazing day trips. The Traverse City Film Festival is an incredible event, for which this apartment is ideally situated. The Cherry Fest is a super family event that happens right outside the door.

There are nearby parks with playgrounds for kids. A short drive takes you to casinos, golf courses, and Interlochen Center for the Arts. And water! You can enjoy miles of beaches and with that many water-based activities.

Traverse City is delightful year round. It is a fabulous home base for fall color tours, as well as winter skiing. February is fun with the comedy fest and the beer & music festival. The nearby City Opera House has an amazing performance line-up year round, and you may be able to catch one of the National Writer Series conversations. In short, Traverse City has much to offer, and having a downtown home base puts you in the center of it.
