This is a truly beautiful and well-located home. The home is well-designed and well looked after. The pool is great, and the house has the best location for viewing the sunset. The property owner and property management team were great to work with, and were super helpful. I highly recommend this home, and hope to return.
Amazing property and a wonderful trip!
What an amazing and beautiful property. We recently stayed for a week during the Thanksgiving holiday. Was very hard to leave! Great location. The house is unique and fit our personalities perfectly. Very "open-air" if you choose to open the sliding doors. We did this every day and enjoyed the sunshine and warm breezes. The house well was stocked with anything you could need. The owner and management communicated well and even met us at almost midnight when we arrived on a late flight. Nice touch and very appreciated! Could not ask for more from a well maintained luxury rental. After a few days at the house I wished we were a few years closer to retirement as I would approach the owner with an offer to buy the place for our primary residence! Loved it that much! We will be coming back for sure. If you are thinking about renting this property do it! Super unique and very functional. Thanks again for the great stay!
Wonderful Vacation Property In Paradise
This is our second stay at the Grass Shack and there will be many more. Rarely have we found such a beautiful, well appointed, fantastically located vacation home. The home provides everything you need for a comfortable stay and more. Not only is the location close to town but you are literally sitting on the ocean front. From refreshing dips in the pool to watching the waves and sunset, Grass Shack can't be beat.
Wonderful location, great for a family
We traveled with our six year old son. Best part of this home was the location in Kona. You are 5 minutes from downtown, Target, luaus etc. This is a gated community with several public beach access points which we saw minimal amount of people at.
Super clean. And Dawn, the property manager, does an amazing job of staying on top of everything.
Everything you could need or want is here. Look before running to Target.
Pull out bed on couch in downstairs bedroom is super handy for a kiddo or two and then everyone can enjoy the window air conditioner.
Pool and spa were perfect temperatures. Very clean, inside and out, and several pool toys available. Super comfortable chairs and furniture throughout the place.
Whole house music, nice washer & dryer, koi pond... just wonderful bonuses.
There is an upstairs which has a separate entrance and living space. Would be great if you had two couples/families, but we didn't use at all so I cannot comment on it.
You are right on the rocks and the ocean. AMAZING views. You literally crawl over the "rock fence" and you can walk down about 15 houses to a small beach which is perfect for young kiddos ( I saw ages 1-12) in a small inlet kind of area. Also, on the rocks there are tons of little tide pools which are fun to look at.
If I had to be picky, I would suggest it would be nice to have the griddle area working. I know it's probably not a cheap fix, but would have been nice (we were aware of it not working, so no surprise). Also, we didn't know what to do with the recycling when we filled that, maybe a note in your binder about that (maybe we missed it too).
We really enjoyed our stay there and would definitely love to stay again.
Having visited the Big Island over fifty times, my wife and I like to think of ourselves
as experienced in what to do and where to stay. We’ve stayed at all the major resorts up and down the Kona Coast, as well as many vacation rentals throughout the island.
This house has many amazing features, but he best one is probably the location. We would venture to stay that this may be the best overall location on the entire island - close enough to walk into the hub of Kailua-Kona, yet peaceful, quiet, and secluded beyond words. It’s located in Kona Bay Estates, a gated community with 24-hour patrolled security. Check it out on Google Earth.
Sitting on the pool-deck with a glass of wine is escapism like no other - close enough to the ocean to feel the spray of waves crashing against the lava, daily pods of dolphins traversing the coastline, in-season humpback whales that sometimes breach so close that the sound is deafening. You even have your own personal lava “blowhole” next to the pool, putting on a show when the surf is up. Plus, the enjoyment of your own pool and spa makes one wonder why you’d ever want to leave the property.
Upon entering the home, you immediately know you’re somewhere unique, with a courtyard that is a tropical paradise of lush greenery, a lava waterfall and a walkway over koi ponds with fish to greet you on every arrival. Talk about good “chi”.
Moving on into the house you’ll find two huge master suites (one overlooking the Pacific), a homey koa-wood kitchen, large living and dining rooms. Most walls of the home fully retract, leaving one with the feeling of open-air living. Tradewinds off the ocean flow throughout the entire home.
The kitchen is fully equipped - we like to take a couple of hours to prepare a gourmet dinner, usually fresh fish on the barbecue, or prepare breakfast (with mimosas!) to enjoy before some suntanning and chilling out around the pool.
In a word, this place is special.
Wonderful beach home
This beautiful home exceeds expectations and was a lovely place to stay in Kona. The pool and spa are well maintained and a real bonus. The opportunity to open the house to the ocean view and breezes really connected you to the feeling of Hawaii. We enjoyed time with both family and friends over the length of our stay and the house worked equally well for both types of groups. The location of the house was both near to Kona and secluded enough to believe the town was far away. On our last morning, a mother and baby Humpback entertained us during our last breakfast on the patio. A truly magical place!!
