About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms,2.5 Baths, Sleeps 10, huge porches, beachfront, sunset view

"So, where is this “Old Florida” of which people speak?

In my opinion, it’s three counties in the Panhandle, Gulf, Franklin and Wakulla — pretty much everything from the Apalachee Bay, south of Tallahassee, westward for about 125 miles to Mexico Beach. Farther west, you run into the recently built new-urbanist communities. Such modern activity hasn’t encroached quite so much on the Old Florida of Gulf, Franklin and Wakulla counties."

by Chuck Reese

Grab a cup of coffee and relax on the porch in the morning, enjoying your gulf front view of Cape San Blas, dolphins swimming out close to you. Enjoy the beach, which is only footsteps away. We have plenty of room for your beach gear, an outdoor shower and 2 huge porches for hanging out. Perfect for families who want it all; beachfront plus privacy and room to breathe.

Huge kitchen, hardwood floors, cable TV, DVD, WiFi, washer, dryer, fully stocked kitchen. You have a view from the kitchen, dining room, living area, upstairs bedrooms and master suite.. Located 5.4 miles east of the Mexico Beach Welcome Center, it is a perfect place for a family vacation, and offers privacy to 3 couples. Local ownership insures quick attention to any requests and a proven history of upkeep and repair.

This is a perfect area for those who don't want the glitz and glamour (and crowded beaches, clogged traffic, and congestion) of other beautiful beaches. Just relax with us and find out what 'old Florida' means!

No parties or weddings even though we are beachfront- our insurance forbids it.

We encourage you to read our guests' comments and you'll see why we're proud of what we do and what we offer. Please contact us for small group discounts if your group is very small.

Winter Visitors! We will discuss winter rentals with those interested.

Please do not contact us about reductions in the rental rate- we are the most reasonably priced beachfront house and do not look kindly on attempts to further lower our rate.

About Mary Gibson

Owned by 3 siblings, the family who lives 7 miles away (in Port St Joe) manages the property.

Mary Gibson purchased this house in 1986

Why Mary Gibson chose Port St. Joe

The land, long owned by the family, finally got its house when everybody realized what a special site it was. Located on a part of the beach where houses are spaced far apart, only 14 lots enjoyed this prime location. The spot also boasted a perfect sunset view- voila, the decision was made. The house, though simple, was architect-designed for maximum comfort during a beach stay. the privacy, the view, the beautiful water and white sand beach that have been beloved by family members for generations were the reasons for the location choice.

What makes this house unique

Although there are nearby activities, you feel like you are 'home' when you're in this comfortable house.Great spot to enjoy cooking- a generous well-stocked kitchen plus great selection of restaurants. Extremely roomy, leading to pleasant family interaction. Large porches for relaxing, watching kids swim, and enjoying the sunset.

The moment we walked into what we call “The Rocking Chair House”, we were amazed at how well maintained, nice and spacious the house was. Many properties say beachfront or near the beach but this house is right on a large stretch of a gorgeous white sand beach! You can take in the views from two full length covered porches with eight plus relaxing rocking chairs. One of the best part of any beach stay is a bonfire and at this house it’s completely legal and fun to do. Just clean up the area in the morning. There’s a trash can right at the entrance so this is easy to do. We enjoyed making s’mores and telling stories by the fire a couple of the evenings. The WIFI reaches out towards the beach and on the patios so you can enjoy browsing your iPad, checking emails and sending real time photos that will make your family jealous :) The house is very spacious compared to many we have stayed at and has a very efficient layout. Each bedroom has two sinks, one in the shower area and one right in each of the master bedroom(s). This allows two people to get ready at the same time and have some extra space. The kids had a blast going up and down the spiral staircase which makes the upstairs feel like their private hideaway. There are other doors upstairs leading to the second “full length” deck which they used a bit, but they really enjoyed the spiral staircases. We had some great meals at Joe Mama’s Pizza and several of the local oyster bars. Even during the off season, this area is a blast and offers many great things to do. One of our favorite adventures was driving out to the Indian Pass oyster bar which is near a park out on a peninsula. This property is basically two symmetrical fully equipped 3 bedroom houses. You can rent both or one side during non summer months. Due to the flexibility of this layout, you can have a family reunion with multiple families or book it for yourself. The hosts were very kind, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. One morning we had a wind storm and they called us to make sure everything was alright. This house was so solid and quiet, we barely even noticed but appreciated the call. The VRBO Bear

Great place with a great beach

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed the spacious duplex. Excellent for spreading out when the weather doesn't cooperate. The covered porches were great - picture perfect view. The beach was very nice and water was clear. The location is such that you feel like the beach is your own private playground. You can just lounge in peace and quiet or take long walks & pick up some shells. The kitchen was very large and the whole place was very clean. Great location if you don't feel like cooking with an A+ restaurant right across the street. Quick access to Mexico Beach or Port St Joe for any shopping. The owners are top notch - easy to communicate with and provide good recommendations (care about their visitors!)

Roomy home with great sunsets

  • 5 of 5

This home has everything you need to relax at the beach. Beautiful views, sandy soft beach, well-equipped kitchen and room for all. We had 5 adults and one toddler and cooler than average temperatures for the first few days. We never felt crowded and once the weather warmed up we loved the spacious porches. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer!

Highly recommend!

  • 5 of 5

The duplex was the perfect fit for our two families! Plenty of space for everyone. You can mingle or you can find a quiet place to just sit and read. And the house had everything we needed. We also enjoyed some great seafood at the local restaurants.

The beach is amazing! Clean, white sand, and warm, clear water. And it's not crowded at all! It's like having your own private beach, right outside your front door! There's also lots of marine life for those who like nature. I saw sea creatures I'd never seen before. And lots of shells! The kids loved to play in the waves. The weather was surprisingly cool for summertime, and I never saw a single mosquito.

The house has two big porches, one downstairs and one upstairs. Both provide an excellent view of the ocean and the beautiful sunsets. If we weren't on the beach, we were relaxing on the porch. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the house uses geothermal cooling/heating (as an engineer, I thought that was neat!).

The owner was very caring, making sure we had everything we needed and offering advice on the best places to eat. Very friendly and hospitable! We're already making plans for another visit.

Wonderful Break!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a nice, relaxing stay in this home. It was very clean, which isn't always the case with homes I've rented in the past that charge a cleaning fee but yet needed cleaning upon arrival--not the case with this home! The owners were very friendly and attentive to any needs we may have had while there. Plus, you can't beat the location!!

Owner's Response: Thanks! Having a clean beach home is very important to us and we don't really charge a cleaning fee. We charge a REFUNDABLE cleaning deposit and we have been able to refund 98% of the deposits collected. We hope to see you again.

Great location and hospitality!

  • 5 of 5

This location is RIGHT on the beach, so beautiful! Wonderful large decks with gorgeous views. Home is also very convenient to shops and restaurants in both Port St. Joe and Mexico beach. Yummy oysters at the raw bar right across the street too! Our kids had a great time playing in the waves, collecting shells and walking on the beach. The owners are also absolutely the best - responsive, helpful and friendly! We highly recommend this rental for a fun and relaxing family vacation - we will be back!
