Why Mary Catherine chose La Punta
For the past 40 years we have traveled independently and together throughout Mexico including Baja, Mazatlan, Puerta Vallarta, Acapulco, Cancun and Chiapas, but found that Manzanillo is the perfect spot for us. We bought the property in 2006, and spent a year renovating the villa, from the grand palapa and exquisite marble floors to the gourmet kitchen and baths. We have a large extended family so this home was perfect for our lifestyle. We love Manzanillo and La Villa Paladin and hope you do too.

Lovely Property with Wonderful Staff
Villa Paladin is a lovely villa built down a hillside overlooking the Pacific. The view is spectacular. The home is open and comfortable, with bedrooms designed to provide complete privacy. An especially nice feature of the villa is having 2 pools...the "cocktail pool" in the living/dining room area and the lap pool on the lower level.
Though the structure and decor of the villa rate many stars, it is the staff that makes Villa Paladin such a welcoming place.. Ana, the chef, and her daughter, Sylvia, are delightful and add a warmth as they talk and laugh while working away in the kitchen preparing lovely meals. Carmen, the housekeeper, keeps everything neat and tidy. She doesn't have to say much as you see the kindness and caring in her eyes.
We were fortunate that this home is managed by Jean Pierre. He stopped by to introduce himself and welcome us and when we were ready to depart, which we very much appreciated. However, what really made this trip one of the best ever was access to one of his employees, Alan. Prior to arrival we had arranged to have a driver for the 2 weeks we were there. Alan turned out to be much more than a driver. He became our concierge, guide, translator, historian, and friend. We had interacted prior to arrival as Alan made all of our reservations...dinner...golf, etc. He suggested and helped plan itineraries, which was so welcomed in traveling to a new place. In meeting him at the airport we were delighted to find this impressive, gregarious young man eager to make our stay enjoyable. He seemed to know every place and everybody. We followed his lead and as a result were taken to places off the beaten track...such as a picturesque beach side restaurant on Isla Navidad only reachable by boat; a private midnight tour of the city's old haunted cemetery; a morning of searching for an original pair of red huarches to find the last pair available in the shop of an elderly cobbler in some small side street, known to Alan since his childhood. However, the most memorable experience was when Alan took us to Colima where we visited the Ruins of El Chanal and La Campana. We arrived just before the annual celebration of the Summer Solstice. During the course of the ceremony, the Shaman led a processional followed by his attendants, dressed in ritual robes of the Coliman, to my daughter, who is disabled, and held a special blessing. Words cannot describe.
We highly recommend Villa Paladin.
Hal, thank you for your comments. I will pass your compliments to all the staff. We look forward to having you and your family back soon. Happy New Year.
Best place I've ever stayed
Five stars isn't enough to rate this place. The Villa de Paladin is a DREAM. The pictures really don't do this place justice. Working with Mary & the staff to iron out all the details before we arrived was too easy.
Mary helped us coordinate transportation to the villa from the airport, and provided us with an extensive list of activities & adventures we could experience throughout the week.
We were greeted with Margaritas, ceviche, guac, and other tasty treats when we arrived. The staff was friendly, helpful, and accommodating to all of our requests. They had breakfast, lunch and dinner prepared for us every day, and would have treats & snacks in the fridge for us throughout the day. The rooms were spacious and clean, and the onsite staff made our beds & did our laundry every day. The pools were heated, the air conditioning & appliances all worked (which in my experience, is rare). They had bug spray & sunscreen available for us. They also had a driver that we could rent & use for the whole week, which I would HIGHLY recommend, especially if you've never been to Manzanillo before (His name is Luis).
I've never been so spoiled in my entire life. We felt like royalty the whole time we were there. We 100% plan on coming back next year, and I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone interested in visiting Manzanillo. Actually, I couldn't rate this place highly enough. For anyone trying to decide between two places to stay in Manzanillo - pick this one - you won't regret it.
the property is Breathtaking & Immaculate.
The property is so Beautiful & Clean! The rooms are so comfortable with beautiful views, shower pressure is awesome & best of all the rooms have air conditioning. These owners have really spent alot of time making this house enjoyable & comfortable for a family or couples. There is a wonderful breeze that welcomes you as you enter the house. This house is Perfection! We will be going Back! The Customer Service was wonderful they couldn't do enough for us. All the Staff were so helpful and always a smile on their face. You can't find a more beautiful, maintained and clean property.
Perfect for Our Family
in celebration of my in-law's 50th wedding anniversary, we searched high and low to seek out the perfect place for our family ... 70' somethings ... with three sons and their families, kids and teenagers of various ages ... and varying levels of comfort in even travelling.
The moment we entered the gates of La Punta, everyone was at ease ... it was beautiful, everyone felt safe and as though they found a little piece of heaven. Then we pulled up to, and opened the door to, the Villa Paladin .... it is truly amazing.
In my research I was pretty sure that everyone would have their private space, and that the main common areas were pretty awesome ... usually pictures are better than in reality ... but in this case, reality was just as good if not better. The views were awesome, every family had their own space, with awesome views and things to do.
The house was stocked with everything needed to hit the beach or the pool ... several times. The house staff was awesome ... meals are good, laundry and cleaning done every day ... the house manager arranged for us to have a car service for the week and this is definitely the way to go. With people of different levels of mobility, this was great in order to even get down to the private beach ... which is a bit of a distance for those that don't walk much and quite hilly to get to (though gorgeous). The car service was well worth it for the entirety of the trip ... La Punta (the gated community) is a bit of a hike from the main road through Manzanillo windy and cobblestone ... and a bit of a distance to get anywhere ... this car service went above and beyond ... they booked tours ... made reservations and ensured things were handled ... professional and handy, and always waited for you too.
GO, GO, GO, GO ... this is a great house for a bunch of friends (couples) a family event, etc...
Oh, and the guys really liked that they have Canadian satellite ... they got to watch the World Juniors they thought they were going to miss ... right in the den/office at the house !!!
Villa Paladin is truly one of our best vacations ever. Our travelling group consisted of 2 families, each with 3 children aged 4-14. The layout of the villa is impeccable. It is obviously designed by a very skilled architect, and you will wonder at the thought and care that went in to this place. The guest rooms are all well spaced out from each other, so noise is never an issue. All guest rooms have king or queen beds (apart from the bunk room) and ensuites, and are beautifully decorated and comfortable. The outdoor living spaces under the massive palapa (thatched roof) are really where Villa Paladin amazes you. I would often gaze up and wonder at the construction of such an immense palapa; it's like the best treehouse in the world. What is so impressive is that there are so many different areas for hanging out; all are nicely spaced out, but within sightlines of each other, so you have a fantastic combination of space and social interaction. There are 2 dining areas, 3 sitting areas, the bar, the pool and the loungers. For our families, it was perfect. The pool would be a little on the small side for a large group of adults, but for 6 kids, it was perfect. It is a great plunge pool for adults, and our kids enjoyed it immensely. The staff at the villa were fantastic. Ana and her crew prepared wonderful meals for us daily, catered to everyone's tastes, and even prepared for us some crazy pineapple drinks that were the envy of everyone at the beach club. The beach club itself is exceptional, with great snorkelling areas right off the shore. It's a bit of a hike though, so a golf cart is highly recommended. Also, the club does not have any 'toys' for you to use, but fortunately Marie at Villa Paladin provided us with boogie boards for the kids. There was also an assortment of snorkelling gear that we could choose from, and we brought our own inflatable SUP from Canada. We loved our vacation here, and would highly recommend this Villa to anyone.
Couldn't believe my eyes
First impression when I entered: WoW. The pictures have nothing on reality with this house. We had our wedding here 2 weeks ago and it was a dream. This review can be VERY long, but I will try to keep it short and sweet. Mary has been so heartfelt. We arrived to Guacamole with salsa and chips. The view is unbelievable. I loved the whole set up of the place. It was upscale, yet comfortable and functional. Whoever designed the layout of this house is a genius. It was easy to have a wedding here because every corner is picturesc. Angeles is truly a professional and a GREAT cook. We just had her make her speacialties the whole stay, we just gave her some money to go grocery shopping and she would come back with the receipt and change. Mary connected me with Dorothy, a wedding planner and Dorothy took care of EVERYTHING for the wedding, I worked with her through e-mail most of the year and she implemented my vision to the T. I was blown away. We will definitely be back!
