About Chris J Johnson

Chris J Johnson is a long time art teacher/artist in Santa Barbara, California. The home in Riverkern has been in our family for over 40 years, and has been recently upgraded since Johnny Johnson, Chris' Dad, passed away 6+ years ago. 'Gentelman John' was Whiskey Flat Mayor in 1985, and was known as the 'Best Bartender In The Valley'!

Chris J Johnson purchased this house in 1971

Why Chris J Johnson chose Kernville

Location, location, location!!

Riverkern is a quiet residential area that many professional locals (law enforcement, forest service, fire department) choose to live because of the quality of life in the area. It's the last residential area going upstream towards the high country, and only three miles from Kernville.

Please note: This is NOT A PARTY ZONE, but a great location as a base for hiking, fishing, boating, and enjoying the great outdoors.

What makes this house unique

Clean, spacious, great patio for bbqing, close to the river, quiet residential neighborhood. Adjacent large lot for boat, trailers, etc with easy turnaround.

Truly a home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

There was plenty of room for us (3 adults and 2 children) the beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked with pots pans and utensils and ample room for seating in the dining area. The temperatures during our stay were in the 3 digits (104) but the swamp cooler kept the home very comfortable for all of us.

I have been coming to Kernville since I was a teenager and the area is just wonderful for fishing, swimming, hiking antique shopping and Kernville events.

We enjoyed the private bubbles beach only a short walk away and made use of the general store located only a short two blocks away.

Tubing from the electric plant down to the kernville bridge was a blast! as well as our trip to the ghost town named Silver City.

All in all we had a wonderful trip! thank you Chris!

House was nice, clean, everything was in order, was really impressed with the wifi speed which is a must because the ATT service is non existent in that area, very pleasant experience overall.
