About MARGARET SMITH PIERCE

Mike and I are 30 year residents of the Big Island. We have always loved the Volcano area and spent a lot of time camping and staying at different B&B's in the area. We purchased Pukeawe Cottage in 2001 and then within the next few years we were able to purchase the lots on both sides of our house giving us almost an acre of land. Much of the land was over taken by invasive species and we have worked hard to clear the land and replant with natives and non invasive plants. We feel very proud of what we have created here and hope our guests enjoy the park like surroundings.

MARGARET SMITH PIERCE purchased this house in 2001

Why MARGARET SMITH PIERCE chose Volcano

We chose to buy our future retirement home in this neighborhood because it is secluded yet close to all the things we enjoy. Hiking and biking and working in our gardens are things we enjoy when we visit our home in Volcano and we look forward to doing more of it when we are able to retire. We are both very busy small business owners in Kona so we cherise all the time that we have at Pukeawe Cottage.

What makes this house unique

You will be visited daily by the birds that drop in to be fed. We provide the food so

you can enjoy their presence.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The cottage was so great! I didn't want to go home! Cozy fire, beautiful stairs and rooms. We went bike riding, ate some Thai food & got a souvenir from Volcano. Thanks so much!

It is so peaceful.

wonderful cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect home for our family! It is immaculately clean and every convenience was provided. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of room to spread out. We had 6 in our party. There is wifi and books/dvds - multiple entertainment opportunities. But it honestly is just SO CUTE. There are almost tame pheasants and finches that will come in the mornings when you throw out bird seed. There is a garden area and side porches. Extra parking. Super great location for all things related to Volcano and the Volcano Winery is walking distance. Go for a tasting one afternoon - you won't regret it. We went back up to the outlook at the national park one night and got to see lava boiling and shooting up. It was amazing. Thank you for such a wonderful place to call home.

A bit of heaven on earth:-)

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is awesome. My husband, daughter, and I loved every moment of our stay. Great location and cozy cottage made for and wonderful experience. The owner was a sweetheart to work with and really goes the extra mile for her guests. It really is such a pretty, welcoming cottage. The birds and pheasants were so fun to watch, and being able to feed them was a real treat. I cannot say enough nice things about our stay. We really did not want to leave, and cannot wait to rent this cottage again. Our stay there was a bit of heaven on earth!

Quiet and peaceful location, close to Volcano

  • 5 of 5

My whole family wished we had more than 1 night to stay here, as the house was very quiet, peaceful, and comfortable. The attention to detail is evident throughout, and the beautiful yard and constantly singing birds created a nice atmosphere. Even the driveway cut through lava rock is charming. The house is just a couple miles from the entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, so very convenient from that standpoint. All in all a very nice rental property and we wouldn't hesitate to book again if we ever make it back to Hawaii.

Couldn't get any better!

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed at many HomeAway rentals and this one is tops! I had family staying at the Lodge nearby, which is supposed to be one of the best places to stay near Volcano National Park, and this place blew theirs away.

It had everything we needed and more! We loved the peacefulness of it. Location, location, location. Less than a 5 minute drive to the park, made it easy to come and go. Google maps took us right to it. Rent this! You won't be disappointed. I would have paid double the rate I was quoted!
