A family vacation to remember! Our guests have been telling us they LOVE it since we first made this historic home a vacation rental in 2011. Why they tell us they love it: Great space both inside and out, comfortable, clean, nice decor, great location (steps to beach and activities). This is a family owned and operated cottage and we take delight in insuring that our guests have an enjoyable vacation. Each winter, the owners spend the weekend in the house to review the guest experience and insure that our guests will have an inviting and comfortable vacation. Our4 bedroom, 2 bath vacation home, is family and pet friendly; steps to the beach, shops and restaurants, please come and enjoy!!!
The beauty of the Beachcomber I is it is perfect for families and couples. The first floor bedroom and bathroom, give a couple looking to get-away great one-story living. If you have a family with you, the three bedrooms and one bath upstairs is great for family and friends.
The enjoyment of the Beachcomber isn't limited to the house. It has a fenced yard, great for children and pets. A kids clubhouse is in the backyard. Relax in the hammock under the holly tree, or read a book under the Magnolia Tree. Also we feature a gas grill and covered picnic area; great for crab picking! And just steps from the house are restaurants, shops, the beach, and fishing pier...be sure to get a soft serve ice cream at Nancy's or visit with Rocky across the street at Densons for great sandwiches and fresh local seafood and delicious hard scooped ice cream!
Colonial Beach, Virginia...the Gateway to the Northern Neck of Virginia is a beach front haven, less than 2 hours from DC, along the Potomac River. Many say, it is place that time has forgotten with its slow pace, friendly people who wave as they drive past you on their golf carts, wide beaches where the Potomac River is 4 to 6 miles wide, within minutes to historical attractions; George Washington's Birthplace; the Lee Family Home, Stratford Plantation, explore Westmoreland State Park, and find Shark's teeth and more, great boating, fishing, crabbing, and discover the Chesapeake Bay Wine Trail, Westmoreland Berry Farm. several great waterfront restaurants, waterfront live bands on weekends during the summer, great crabs. Just a quick hour away is Kings Dominion Theme Park; featuring great rides and water-park.
Thanks for looking and be prepared to fall in love with Colonial Beach and the Northern Neck!
Colonial Beach is along the Potomac River; 60 miles down river from Washington DC...so close, but a world away!

About Cathy Bokman
There are three families that own The Beachcomber. Each of us contribute our special talents from renovation, decoration, marketing, and management. I have worked in the hotel industry all of my career and enjoy welcoming people to our home or to several of the rental properties we own; so I speak on behalf of all of the owners; we look forward to having you and your family as our guest.
Cathy Bokman purchased this House in 2011
Why Cathy Bokman chose Colonial Beach
My husband George and I first discovered Colonial Beach on a day trip adventure from Chevy Chase, Maryland about 9 years ago. After several weekends, we bought a small cottage. Through the years, we have had lots of friends and family stay with us. All of them have fallen in love with the Town of Colonial Beach. One summer my sister and George's brother started to look at houses; and together in February of 2011; all three families joined together to buy this house built in 1940. All of us, with help of some great professionals have been working hard through a renovation to make it ready for guests this summer. We chose this house because of its great spaces, yard, and a location that is convenient to everything the beach has to offer.
What makes this House unique
What are guests share with us they love about the house is comfort, location, and space. Let me start with space. On vacation being together is fun, but sometimes different groups want to do different things and this house is great for being together, yet finding your own space. The house features two living spaces, sun porch, eat-in kitchen and dining space. Additionally, the large fenced yard with the covered picnic area, shaded and sunny areas, and playhouse offers something for everyone. You can't beat the location if you want to take advantage of everything the Colonial Beach has to offer! House is just 2 blocks from the beach and fishing pier. It is less than one block from restaurants, library, museums, and churches for most denominations. Comfort is a combination of the space and decor. Our guests always comment that it is a pretty house. They are comfortable and enjoy the well stocked kitchen, games, books, toys in the playhouse, assorted bikes and beach stuff.

Great location...comfortable home...we will be back!
The house was welcoming and our family enjoyed the ability to gather as a group and have places of their own. The yard was terrific, plenty of place to relax while the kids and dogs played in the fenced yard...the playhouse was a nice delight for our younger set!
The location allowed people to enjoy different activities without needing a car. We will be back!
Great location, great house, better than pics
Lovely area. House is well located next to stores, churches, beach, parks. Wonderful vacation.
Thanks for your nice comments, we are so glad that you had a wonderful vacation! Like you, we find so many of our guests enjoy not only this spacious, historic house with it's nice outdoor living space, but also the location.
When we purchased this home, we thought...WOW...this will be a great way for people to enjoy the small town charm of Colonial Beach...all within walking distance.
Glad you saw what we saw...hope to see you again!
We enjoyed our stay at Colonial Beach. The house is close to the beach, which was very convenient. We could just walk back to the house after time at the beach and did not have to introduce sand to our cars. The house provides a washing machine and dryer, which was very convenient for washing the swim wears. The gas grill was a good feature since most restaurants in town are not open on week days, which we did not know beforehand.
We are so glad you were able to bring your family together for a great vacation!
We are proud of our restaurants. As a small beach town, where many of the owners actively work the restaurants, Monday and sometimes Tuesday, tends to be a day with only a few open during season.
Please keep us in mind for future visits!
The best part of summer is staying here!!
We enjoy this house each time!!! Love it being close to the beach and restaurants, and the playground and ice cream!! Love the atmosphere! !! Can't wait to go back next year!!
We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay! We can't wait to have you again, not just next year....but year after year!!!
Hint, I think my favorite time at the beach is the fall...let us know if you need a quick get-away!
The most enjoyable Colonial Beach rental yet
Our family has been vacationing in CB for many years. This place was very good. The location was great; you could walk to just about everything including restaurants and the beach. It was spacious enough to easily accommodate our family of four including two dogs. There were plenty of amenities and I enjoyed dining with my family in the house. All in all, a very nice experience!
We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay!
Beachcomber I is the first of our now 4 cottages and it continues to be one of the favorites. The location is always top on the list, followed by great space both inside and out!
We hope to see you for many years to come!
Plenty of: well kept clean space for our family reunion; towels; hot water; and hospitality!
Plenty of: well kept clean space; towels; hot water; and hospitality! There is little else that needs to be said for this quiet getaway for our family reunion. There were a couple blips with the internet service caused by the cable company that the owners immediately addressed.
The only issues we had were the ones that we were expecting, jellyfish and mosquitoes in Colonial Beach. To avoid the jellyfish we went to Dalgren Wayside on the south side of the Potomac River just before the RT 301 bridge. On the two days we went there, no jellyfish were spotted and we were the only ones at this small shallow beach. We also went to the pool at Westmoreland State Park one day. As for the mosquitoes, a light spray of repellent on our legs kept them away.
We would not hesitate renting this house or one of the other two owned by this owner for a future stay.
Thanks so much for staying! Glad you enjoyed your stay, and making the best of out of some of the curve balls mother nature can throw at us! We do find in late July to early August a week or two of jelly fish; depending upon the weather and spring rains.
I want to thank you for your patience with the internet. When the cable company arrived the day after your stay, they found it was a problem at the pole and was able to fix it; thank for bringing it to our attention.
We hope to have you with us again to enjoy family, friends, and our small town charm!
