About Victor Marquez

We are a Mexican/Italian couple who travel throughout the world, with homes in San Francisco, Venice & Northern Italy, and in lovely Guanajuato! We travel often with our 2 gorgeous labrador retrievers, Scooby and Angelica..

Victor Marquez purchased this house in 2005

Why Victor Marquez chose Guanajuato City

We love Guanajuato for its European style charm and rich Mexican Culture, and we are half-way home here! The home dates to 1792 and is one of the few standing residential dwellings built in the colonial times: most other colonial building in the city are commercial or official buildings. The original house gave us the opportunity to create something unique. The whole house has been restored to its original splendor using hand made furniture and local art. We selected this house after a search that lasted 10 years because it is the only house in the centro which has multiple open spaces: the patio is divided in two: the pool are and the fireplace area, the second floor has three terraces (one is a gigantic service terrace fir hanging clothes and a continuation of the rooftop garden ) aand a spacious veranda where we entertain our guests with stunning views . All other houses in the centro offer only sun baked rooftops, our patio is 100% private and offers the opportunity of spending 100% of the time outside

What makes this house unique

We love to soak in our courtyard pool in the evenings, cook and enjoy gourmet meals in our fabulous kitchen, relax on our roof-top terrace, explore local art exhibits, and dine occasionally in cozy Guanajuato restaurants so close to Casa del Limon.

Lovely house, many advantages

  • 5 of 5

Lovely house, and we were comfortable there. The manager, James, was very helpful. Our only issue-- as older folks -- was having to navigate the steps between bedrooms and bathrooms during the night. Of course staying in Guanajuato means climbing stairs all the time, but it would have been more suitable for us to have bedrooms/bathrooms on the same level. And there are a couple of steps separating just about every room, if steps are an issue. On the other hand, the climb from the nearby plaza wasn't bad. The neighborhood is well -located and very pleasant...a short walk to the Jardin, the university area, a good little grocery store, a bus/taxi stop, and plenty of restaurants -- also just two blocks from the Escuela Mexicana, where we took some classes. We enjoyed the rooftop, the roomy and well-equipped kitchen, and watching DVDs. Internet is limited pretty much to the living room, but I guess that is due to the thick 200-year-old walls!

A lovely home

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying at Casa del Limon over the holidays. The house is perfectly located with relatively easy access with suitcases, and close proximity to restaurants and shops. You will only have a short walk when being dropped off by or hailing a taxi. It's beautifully and comfortably decorated and has a few quirks that are to be expected in a building of this age, but the charm of the residence more than compensates. The roof deck is especially lovely and spacious, and wonderfully warm in the morning when it gets full sun. Prior to going, I had a small concern about being too cold in the house because few (if any) houses in Guanajuato have heating. The owners have several space heaters available, but we never needed them. The extremely thick walls allow the house to maintain a steady temperature throughout the day and night. Wifi was reliable and fast. James, the property manager, is an ex-pat American (fluent in Spanish) and made it easy to settle in. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Perfection in Guanajuato

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Casa Limon for 2.5 weeks in June of 2016 and this house was fantastic for our purposes! First and foremost, the location was perfect. With 2 young children we were nervous about all the walking in GTO....and while you do have to walk up quite a few steps from either main access, our 3 and 5 year old could handle it just fine multiple times a day. The house itself is charming, spacious, comfortable--one of the main reasons our time in Guanajuato was so enjoyable! One evening we had a few friends over and they all marveled at the same 4 things: 1. the amount of space, 2. the fact that we had a washer, 3.the pool(!) and 4. the spectacular rooftop patio. I didn't realize just how unique this property is to have in the Centro until then. ***About the pool (plunge pool, really)--if you have young children who are NOT incredibly coordinated walkers or swimmers yet, this is not the house for you. You must be able to navigate the pool while going from 2nd bedroom to either bathroom or main house. It was find for us, but younger than 3 or 4 is really too young for this house, in my opinion. Otherwise, it was perfection! We are planning to return to Casa Limon next summer!

idyllic learning vacation

  • 5 of 5

Lovely little university town with ample possibilities of learning or brushing up ones knowledge of the Spanish Language.

the Casa del Limon is a real , comfortable, beautifully furnished home with a typical Mexican interior offering all comfort one can wish for.Although right in the centre of Guanajoato it is quiet, with a superb roof terrace on which we had breakfast nearly every day, sometimes wearing a jacket over our pyjamas as the nights can get cold in Wintertime. As no houses do have heating we would dive into the king size bed with plenty of blankets and a good book. The town offering lots of culture that was not too often.Would love to go back Valentina

A little paradise

  • 5 of 5

We spent 3 months in the Casa de Limon, we loved every minute. The house is easy to reach, the house has a lot of space around the little patio and the terrace with its view over the city is breathtaking.

Shops, language schools and university are close by. The surrounding is very quiet (no traffic) and absolutely safe. Very quickly we felt at home. The kitchen is fully equipped, the beds very comfortable. The only small drawback: evenings in winter can get chilly, the electric radiator is a bit weak. But you forget that when you have breakfast next morning on the roof terrace in the sun!

Excellent house

  • 5 of 5

When I decided to rent casa del limon I was in a hurry and had my reserves. I wanted a safe property very close to el jardin de la union and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! The pictures on VRBO are good but nowhere near as beautiful as the property. The different sections of the terraza are and the views are breathtaking. I invited my friends over for a get together and they were all asking how I found the property...honestly, I wanted to be a little selfish because I want this house when I go back.

Another review talks about the outdoor restroom as a drawback, I look at it as an adventure and part of the charm of such a gorgeous property. Let me just say a month was not enough to enjoy this beauty.

If you are familiar with Guanajuato you will appreciate the how close it is to el jardin de la union and that it is only a few stairs uphill to get to the house. The kitchen is fully equipped! There were a couple of things but it has to do more with management than with the property is that there was no drinking water when I arrived and I was not informed of where to place the trash, but these small issues were not enough to take away a full star.
