Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

We call it Tumalo Pines because our house is nestled on 20 private, forested acres 'toward Tumalo' but just five miles northwest of Bend.

Watch the morning sun light up the Three Sisters Mountain range, cup of coffee in hand as you walk the property with the deer. Relax in the sun on one of three separate decks as many species of birds come to the feeders. Grill meals on the terrace while enjoying a glass of wine in front of the large outdoor fireplace. Star-gaze from the 6-person hot tub.

The house has an open floor plan with 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and a laundry room. The fully-equipped kitchen is open to the great room. The comfortable beds and quiet country nights make for great sleeping. Listen for the owls and coyotes.

It's hard to believe you're only five miles from Bend with its gourmet restaurants and shopping. And, located here on the West-side, there's easy access to Mt Bachelor and the surrounding national forests with their miles of trails for hiking and biking. And, the house is located on one of the prime touring routes so bring your road bike!

Whatever it is that brings you to Bend, be it the rivers and lakes for great fly fishing, golfing in the good weather on any of the 30+ courses within 30 miles of the house, or just relaxing and reading books on the deck, you'll find that our house is wonderful base for your Central Oregon vacation.

Keywords: Privacy, country setting, amid 20 acres of open pine and juniper forest, 5 minutes northwest of Bend, single-story, newer 3 bedroom home.

About Doug Wold

We value the experience of simply being at Tumalo Pines as much if not more than all of the things we do while we're there.

Doug Wold purchased this house in 2003

Why Doug Wold chose Central Oregon

I grew up on the wet side of the Cascades and came to love the Central Oregon high desert with its dry climate, dramatic seasons and sun as a kid. Bend has long been 'the place to go' for many Oregonians for the climate and instant access to a myriad of outdoor activites. Adding to that the many good restaurants and all the shopping and services one would need makes it an ideal location. There's a reason so many people love Bend.

What makes this house unique

The setting is beautiful and amazingly peaceful. The open forest, views and privacy feel like you are much further out of town than just five miles.

High Desert Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from our second week long stay at this special place. Filled up the many bird feeders and the frog pond immediately and within minutes they came. We lost track of the number of bird species and the Stellar Blue Jays spread so much of the smaller seeds on the ground that the chipmunks and rabbits made their presence known as did several groups of deer. So fun to watch! The outdoor hot tub got plenty of use, still haven't made a fire in the outdoor fireplace but took advantage of the huge wood pile with indoor fires. Perfect location just 5 minutes from some of the best restaurants in Bend and the Sisters area was 20 minutes away. The only drawback, since we were planning on playing golf, was the early May weather. It snowed twice and rained twice which was not expected for the location. Also the roads to the volcano and passes were not yet open due to snow. Planning on making it late May or early June the next time. Cant' wait!

Beautiful property with all of the essentials for a fun weekend away.

  • 5 of 5

We had a group of five and couldn't have asked for a more perfect setting. It was secluded but close enough to town for an easy trip to the local breweries or a round of golf. Doug couldn't have been more accommodating, would highly recommend this house to anyone looking in the area!

What a place!

  • 5 of 5

Picturesque setting just outside of Bend. Far enough outside of town away from light and noise pollution. Yet close enough to enjoy all Bend has to offer. Great house with all the amenities one can ask for. We loved sitting outside by the outdoor fireplace gazing at the stars.

Doug was an excellent host. Great communication and a truly accommodating individual.

I will definitely be staying here again!

Tranquil spot

Close to everything but far enough away to let you unplug from the world. Great place with all the amenities needed. We will definitely seek this place again if we come back to Bend.

Great as always

  • 5 of 5

This is our 6th stay and possibly our best. We arrived to nearly three feet of snow, more than any other time we've been! The kids made snow forts and snow shoed around the property, we saw deer, elk and even a couple coyotes. The out door fireplace kept us nice and cozy and the hotub was a great way to start and end the days. We will be back next year!

We had a great time here, this house was nicer than most we've stayed in. Also great view of the mountains and a lovely piece of land to explore.
