Would love it more if some improvements

  • 3 of 5

We stayed at this huge and well-appointed house three nights while attending our daughter's wedding. I had four couples arriving and was worried, "Will everyone like what I chose?" Well, the house was a hit because we could all spread out and it had great decorations. The sheets are at the end of the bed, but we had to look and look for towels. Finally realized there was a closet behind the door in the bathroom as well as another closet with towels. It would have been nice to have towels layed out with the sheets. The biggest drawback, which has been mentioned in previous reviews, is the cleaning crew does a terrible job. The refrigerator was dirty, the floors look like they haven't really been cleaned "forever". I took a wet paper towel and wiped the kitchen floor and it came back almost black. One of the toilets was dirty. Two light bulbs were out in the master bathroom and one in the living room. We called the owner and he asked us to call the cleaning service. I think he, the owner, should have called them. They came while we were out and left a note saying the light bulbs were changed; however, the same three were still out. Luckily, we bought light bulbs and replaced them ourselves. The dishwasher was not stable and we had to help it along so to speak. Everything in the cabinets needs to be taken out and cleaned and organized. There were dirty towels left laying in the laundry area. The surrounding deck was dirty from bird droppings in the back and pollen everywhere. Several light fixtures were broken and the bushes around the windows need to be cut back to let in more light. This is a gorgeous piece of property in a very upscale gated community. The owner should be more vigilant with the maintenance and caring for his investment as you get the impression that the house is a bit worn out. Also, I didn't like the personal items left in the closet because we had so many clothes, etc. for wedding events and had to move personal items around. It would be nice to have these locked up in owners closet.

Need time away-this is your place!

  • 4 of 5

Very nice gated community. Peaceful and quiet location. Lots of deer and birds. Motorcyclist's can handle the chat roads. Plenty of room for up to 5 couples or families with children. Read the rental agreement thoroughly as you have to bring some essentials that are not provided. The 4 star rating is mainly due to uncleanness and the remote location. Overall a nice place to stay.

Very Beautiful Cabin !!!

  • 4 of 5

Positive Things: Private pond with gazebo and fishing pier, walk around deck, 3 levels (easy accommodation for large groups), spacious living room kitchen & dining room, lot of parking space, fire pit by the pond, good price, gated community, etc.....

Room for improvement: Some chairs / bench by the fire pit , a blender in the kitchen, thorough cleaning (especially the rooms in basement). These are small things that did not bother our trip but would have been great if present.

We would definitely return back to this place when visiting this area. Awesome place and always quick response from the owner when needed.

Christmas Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family (14 of us) spent the most beautiful Christmas week at this beautiful home. All of us are native Floridians and we wanted to see a white Christmas. The weather didn't cooperate with us but we did get 30-50 degree weather which was a treat in itself from the hot climate we live in. The home was perfect for us with the 2 king bedroom for my 6'4" sons and their wives. All the bedrooms (5) were nice sized, the beds comfortable and lots of closet space. The teenagers loved playing pool in the basement. The kitchen had all the kitchenware we needed and since we cooked breakfast and dinner each night, AND we used them. The owner was very helpful in recommendations. He sent us info on places to cut our own Christmas tree, where to go to ski, tube, shop for groceries, etc. We did have enough ice for the kids to slide down the big hill in his beautiful yard, which was a huge highlight for all of us. Hiking around the house was beautiful, deer in our yard every night, fishing in the pond (although it was too cold for fish to bite) , cold weather...... absolutely "the best vacation ever" were everyone's comments. I'm sure you would find beauty in all seasons here. I would like to come back in the spring or summer when all the beautiful plants around the house are in bloom.

The dishwasher flap at the bottom of the door was not attached and I'm sure I could have called the owner and he would have sent someone to fix it, but it didn't bother us, the dishwasher worked fine. We never got the TV in the basement to work either. The only other suggestion would be to possibly install a door from the basement at the stairs going up to the main floor. Pool tournaments got a little loud (lol) and the sound travels upstairs.

If being in a development concerns you, don't be. All the homes are on what looks like 2-3 acres so they are not near each other, this one being on 10 acres.

Mountain Getaway

  • 5 of 5

If you truly want to get away from it all, this home is the spot to do it. We felt like we had our own mountain farm with rolling hills, privacy and a pond. There were even rolled up hay bales in the front yard that the kids enjoyed playing around. The wraparound porches are huge and a great spot for corn hole. We had beautiful weather the whole time but if it rained, you have enough space on the front porch to hang outside. There was plenty of firewood for the wood burning fireplace. You are really close to the New River and can drop in your own kayaks off roundhouse road depending on how long you want your kayak ride to be. There is a boat ramp under the bridge 5 minutes from the house which is where we would get out. There is no internet service but that was a refreshing change for our weekend getaway. Overall we were very happy with our stay here.

Great reunion/vacation rental home!

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 12 adults and we stayed in this home for a full week. One family upstairs, one couple on the main floor, and one family downstairs. It was great for each family group to have its own bathroom, plus there's the extra half bath on the main floor. There was plenty of floor space in the bedrooms for our extra air mattress beds. The kitchen is spacious, the dining area is nice! We even put the extra leaf in the table and had more seating with a few chairs from the porch/deck. The main living room is big and has quite a high ceiling. The wide open, spacious feel was really great with 12 people. We never felt crowded. We played lots of games and had quite a great time as a 3-generation family reuniting.

No towel racks in the bathrooms was a bit of a surprise, but towels dried quickly out on the railing. The 2 decks wrap around the entire home. There is a lovely little pond with a gazebo that we utilized every day. Fishing, relaxing, catching up. We ate some meals out on the decks. Lots of seating.

The beautiful scenery, gorgeous weather, and opportunities to go bird-watching or explore the 'neighborhood' made for a very relaxing vacation. The air conditioning was great on the more humid days. The rec room in the basement was a nice getaway for those who wanted to do puzzles, watch TV, read, or play pool. No internet in the home but wifi was available at the nearby community center. Our Verizon & Sprint phones worked in and around the house. T-Mobile did not have service at all. The community center's exercise equipment & shower were pretty nice and we did use that daily.

We loved that there were places within 8-15 miles that had inner tube, kayak, and bike rentals. And grocery, ice cream, restaurants, & odd-item shopping was close by as well. The gated community and homes spaced far apart gave this rental a very private and secure feel.

The owner was readily available by phone during our stay, and also before and after by email or facebook messaging. He answered our questions and worked with us very well to make sure things were going smoothly! We also met the groundskeepers - very friendly. This is a super-comfortable and lovely home, and all in all we were extremely happy with our choice of rental properties. We took lots of photos -- made great & lasting memories. We would recommend this rental and would love to return one day!
