About Steve Batty
I'm a retired adult educator who spends his summers in Grand Lake taking care of Anna's Place. For the eight fall, winter and spring months I live in SW Nebraska and build website, do video oral histories and serve on several boards.
Steve Batty purchased this Cabin in 1909
Why Steve Batty chose Grand Lake
My family and another one from SW Nebraska purchased the two lots on Grand Lake in 1908 then built a duplex summer log home. It has been in the family every since.
What makes this Cabin unique
The cottage is only a few feet from the lake with a large unattached boat house that can be used by guests. The lake and mountain view from the front and side porchs is one of the finest on the lake. There is a canoe and a kayak which guests can use. Sunbathing on the dock and boathouse roof are popular with some. Others choose to enjoy the nice weather and just read on the porch.

A Perfect Get Away
My family of four recently stayed at Anna’s Place (June 15-22, 2014) and had a wonderful time. The cabin, while rustic in nature was a place for us to enjoy each other as a family.
The kitchen had everything we needed and if it didn’t, Steve, the owner living next door, did. We enjoyed the occasional movie night complete with fire (It was still chilly in June!) and of course s’mores and popcorn too. The availability of free wifi allowed us to check in when needed and the boys liked having it too. The cabin was clean and the perfect getaway.
There were many trails in the area for hiking and the kayak and canoe were enjoyed by our older teenage boys (16 & 20). The boathouse roof was the perfect place to take in a good read and enjoy the sun and it also provided a challenge to us… a jump off of it into the water! The community of Grand Lake was friendly and eager to share. There are several ice cream shops within the city and we tried out three of them. All were great! -The boys even took the canoe one evening to get some! The local grocery stores were perfect for a quick run for any last minute items. There is some shopping downtown –Humphries is a must for the mom in the family. I went two different times. The fishermen will be able to purchase their license downtown but make sure you know your social security number (anyone 16 and older) as you will need it to get a license.
The Arapahoe Forest and the National Park are just short drives away. I encourage you to purchase your vehicle pass early as it lasts seven days. We used ours to drive to Estes Park and take in a half day horseback ride (Sombrero Stables) complete with steak dinner, Chuck wagon style. Beautiful! We saw many elk, moose, mountain goats and big horn sheep while traveling. Another activity we enjoyed was white water rafting. We drove to Idaho Springs to do this and chose AVA. ~This was well worth the drive and we really had a lot of fun.
Anna’s Place is a perfect little get away for the family. It’s quiet and tranquil setting(minus the beautiful sound of humming birds) allowed us to enjoy each other’s company yet it also provided some outdoor fun. We enjoyed our stay and getting to know Steve. He will take great care of you.
We left with lots of memories made and we are still talking about it.
Cabin on the lake
My husband and I stayed at Anna's Place the first week of June this year. The cabin is exactly as advertised; yes, it is rustic but cozy, and everything you need is provided. The view can't be beat, and the fact that you are right on the lake for an affordable price is wonderful. I enjoyed the details of the decor that Steve has thoughtfully added to the cabin; they provide interest as well as local history. The kitchen is small but very well-stocked. Steve was an accommodating host and even provided bottled water. Beware that there are many steps down to the cabin, but it's no problem unless you have trouble with stairs or bring a ton of stuff!
The deck off of the renter's side of the cabin was wonderful for a relaxing breakfast. Being able to have our boat right there was amazing! We even saw a moose right on the road above the cabin on our last morning there.
Perfect Vacation Spot
We had such a wonderful time at Anna's Place, and have already made plans to go again next summer. The owner, Steve, was very helpful and definitely added to the pleasure of our stay. This rental was even better than we had hoped for - even more beautiful in person! I would highly recommend this rental!
Thank you Elaine. I also received your fish photos but have not open the attachment yet. I've been in Gramby most of the day helping an older friend with some computer needs. It's warm and windy and has been for the last several days.
Thanks for the nice review. Maybe it will help others decide to try Anna's Place next summer.
Grand Lake is surrounded on three sides by Rocky Mountain National Park for lots of hiking, fishing and photos shots.
