Overview

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Office, 3.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 10-12)

If you need a large, comfortable home for all your family and friends, where kids can play safely without disturbing the adults, this is it. Buddy up, because this beautifully-appointed, spacious home can easily accommodate 3 families together and sleeps 10 easily. With a hot tub on the deck, super comfy beds, a spacious kitchen, WiFi Internet, and lots of room to spread out and relax, many guests tell us that ours is the NICEST vacation house they've ever stayed in!!!

Our 2560-square foot vacation home features 4 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, a beautiful slate entryway, and two large great rooms. Located in the Tahoe Donner area of Truckee, we're minutes from all of the major ski resorts in North Lake Tahoe, 40 miles from Reno-Tahoe International Airport and just three hours from the Bay Area. This well-equipped home sleeps 10 in beds, and can accommodate as many as 6 adults and 6 kids if you use our comfy sofas or bring your own air mattresses and sleeping bags. With 4 showers, everyone can get ready at the same time.

Adults can enjoy the comfortable downstairs living room while kids retreat to the large upstairs great room stocked full of toys--including a train table, wooden tracks, and Thomas trains! Both living rooms have wood-burning stoves, TVs with DVD players (one has VCR, too), and stereos. Tastefully decorated throughout, all furniture is new within the last 4 years, including leather sofas downstairs and faux-suede sofas and recliners upstairs.

Take your pick of sleeping arrangements: A master bedroom with luxurious King-sized bed downstairs, 2 bedrooms with new Queen-sized beds upstairs, and an adorable kids’ room with 2 bunk beds to sleep 4 children. Each equipped with high-end bedding, electric blankets or down comforters, plus all the extra sheets, pillows, blankets, towels, and beach towels you'll need to during your relaxing stay.

Enjoy cooking in the large, fully-stocked kitchen with all the amenities and lots of counter space. The dining room seats 8 comfortably. We have a microwave, toaster, coffee maker, blender, rice cooker, and other appliances for your convenience. Plenty of plates, glasses, utensils, cloth napkins, pots and pans, etc., too. There is a large study with two desks (or room for an air mattress), and the house features WiFi wireless internet access.

Kids will enjoy the large back yard--perfect for sledding or snow play in the winter or exploring the woods in the summer, with a little creek that runs through the property in the spring (and sometimes into the summer), while the adults sit out on the deck and enjoy the tall evergreens. Out on the deck, a hot tub is available for your enjoyment, as is a redwood picnic table with umbrella and lounge chairs.

The house comes with guest passes for access at discounted rates to dozens of amenities in Tahoe Donner: 18-hole golf course, driving range (which becomes a sledding hill in winter), a full weight room, exercise classes, 3 swimming pools, family and adult hot tubs, sauna, massage, horseback riding (cross-country ski area in the winter), and a semi-private beach at Donner Lake with paddle boats, kayaks, swimming, and crawdad fishing for the kids! Other summer options include rafting on the Truckee river, gorgeous hiking and mountain biking trails for all levels, and so much more.

In winter: Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Area and Cross Country Center, less than 1 mile away, are perfect for kids and beginners. Sugar Bowl, Northstar, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, and many more slopes, plus ice-skating rinks, sledding and tubing hills, all nearby. Easy access: We are located on one of Tahoe Donner's main roads, which is constantly cleared in winter, and our flat driveway is kept plowed, as well. We've never been stuck, even in the harshest of winters!

About Whitney Walker

We are the Walker family (father, two daughters and their families, including five grandchildren). We live in the Bay Area and come as often as we can. We take care of it as if it is our own primary home. We have a local property management service to handle anything you need during your stay.

Whitney Walker purchased this house in 2007

Why Whitney Walker chose Truckee

We've been skiing all over North Lake Tahoe for nearly 50 years. We love this location, because it's convenient to all the ski resorts and Tahoe Donner is such a great place for little ones to learn, roads are well maintained, short distance to groceries and restaurants, and Tahoe Donner Association has many amenities you can also use as a renter--exercise gym, swimming pools (3), cross country skiing, horseback riding, hay rides, BBQs, golf, hiking, holiday events, babysitting, and on and on!

What makes this house unique

We love the ability for all of us to spread out in the lovely house, sometimes do things together, sometimes each finds a spot to do his or her own thing--a nap, read a book, while others are watching tv without disturbing you. Kids have the woods and creek to explore in the open back yard (no fences!) or play with our myriad of toys upstairs. We like the tall evergreens in the forest surrounding us. It's just so comfortable here!

Great for multiple families!

  • 5 of 5

This place was awesome for families!!! It fit comfortable three families of 4. All of our kids are under 6 and they all had an amazing time! We def want to make this an annual trip! The hot tub was a plus and the backyard was amazing. We created our own sled run for the kids to play with. We didn't even have to leave the house! The kitchen was well stocked and the two living areas was incredible!

Only thing I would recommend is to bring baby gates by the stairwell. The owner did mention but we totally forgot.

Whitney was very easy to work with and responded very quickly.

I highly recommend this house for the winter and I think the summer would be awesome as well.

Great Stay in Donner Lake

  • 4 of 5

This is a great house for a large family. Lots of room for everyone. The bonus room upstairs is filled with great toys that my grandchildren loved. Close to Donner Lake and Truckee. We had a wonderful week here. So much to do in the surrounding area then home to a relaxing evening. Hot tub and yard are so nice in the evenings too. Whitney is very easy to work with she responds quickly to inquiries. Just a great place to stay!!!

Fantastic family vacation spot!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week, with three generations. Owner was very responsive and easy to work with; and the house was clean and ready. We had more than enough room for our 3 couples, plus 2 kids, and our occasional extra daytime visitors from nearby Reno. As the grandparents we stayed in the king master suite downstairs, and our two children and their young families stayed in the upstairs rooms. It worked very well to have an upstairs and downstairs family room. The three year old LOVED the upstairs playroom, the backyard swing set, and just playing outdoors for hours...pine cones, sticks, forts, and the small creek. We made good use of the large, well-equipped kitchen for family meals. There was ample seating, indoors and out.

Details that made this so comfortable....good beds and bedding; walk-in closets with hangers and shelf space; plenty of towels, soap, and paper products; four bathrooms; hot tub in the pines; laundry room with big counter; game closet (Twister!).

Close by we enjoyed the Tahoe Donner pools, fitness center, trails, and picnic areas. At the Tahoe Donner beach on Donner Lake we rented paddle boards, kayak, and small catamaran to sail! One day we hiked nearby Mt Judah Loop trail....had a bit of snow left and great vistas of the lake. We took a day trip to El Dorado Wine Country and Lake Tahoe!

This house was the setting for a fun-filled, very happy family vacation! We'd love to go again!

Owner's Response: Thanks for staying with us! We'll have to check out that Mt. Judah Loop trail next time we're up. The Summit Tunnel Hike is great, too!

So so perfect

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the house for Memorial Day weekend with 2 other families. We had so so much fun! Our kids had a blast in the backyard and creek so much so that we barely had to leave. The house is fully stocked, clean, comfortable and very family friendly. Tahoe Donner has fantastic amenities and great hiking right down the street. Beautiful. We will for sure be back many more times!

Wonderful house

  • 5 of 5

3 families with kids from 8 months to 5 years stayed here. We had an amazing time. The "backyard" was perfect for snow fort building, sledding, ball-throwing for the dog and so much more. The playroom has a ton of toys, the bunk room is adorable, and the bedrooms had good space. They even had a mini-crib which we used for our son instead of the pac n'play that we had brought.

The only downfall is that there are stairs, so if you have an adventurous toddler bring a WIDE baby gate and be prepared to play defense!

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay! We don't provide baby gates, but guests are welcome to bring their own as long as they accept all responsibility for it. Come stay with us again soon!
