I am a business woman who works in a fifty year old family real estate development company. Besides being a painter, my husband and I are serious photographers who enjoy photographing different cultures. I have been very involved in Savannah’s and Georgia’s arts communities among other civic organizations. The rest of my time is shared with our three children and grandchildren.
Tybee Beach Vacation Rentals purchased this house in 1966
Tybee is a beautiful barrier island just 25 minutes from Savannah where we live off season. This home has been our home for 45 years. It is perfectly situated at the highest point along Tybee’s beach. The view is superb and it is one of the few streets where homes are not crowded together.
Some of the unique benefits that we enjoy are: the location – ocean front, nothing blocking a 180° view of the ocean, fine grained beach sand great for walking, biking, playing bocce ball or handball, wooden walkway over sand dunes for easy beach access, screened porch sitting area and dining area for 20 or more people, all facing prevailing Southeast winds, windows and door opposite each other for cross ventilation when air conditioning is not needed, original heart pine paneling, penthouse apartment with private balcony, two kitchens, 3 refrigerators/freezers, one stand alone freezer, separate HVAC systems for each floor, built in vacuum cleaner system, elevator, handicap ramps. Also nearby grocery store, restaurants, and historic sites.
Just wanted you to know that we are enjoying our stay at your house. The upstairs suite is magnificent, as well as the late afternoon views. The house has been cozy and comfortable, and a great place for our family to be together. Thank you very much.
Staying in this home was a real mountaintop experience for my family...The spacious living areas, both indoors and out, provided endless opportunities for us to play games, read, watch TV, converse, knit, write and enjoy the ocean breezes. The view from the Crow's Nest on the third floor was spectacular, and the sounds and smells of the ocean lifted our hearts. The kitchen, while the smallest of any home we have ever rented (this was the 11th home rented by us), was VERY well-equipped and exceptionally functional...we would rent this house again in a heartbeat.
One of our family is handicapped, and we require an elevator in any home if it is more than one story. While the elevator worked perfectly every time, we were grateful for the outdoor ramp that provided us with a backup plan in case something untoward happened. FYI: If a disabled person is a member of your party, it is key that a transfer wheelchair be brought to this rental...My son's power chair was too large for the elevator, but the transfer chair fit perfectly.
We were able to enjoy Tybee Island, Savannah, Fort Pulaski, and all the surrounding areas. We highly recommend eating at The Crab Shack and having ice cream at the Sugar Shack.
Take time to read at least one of author Bruce Feiler's books, which you will find on a shelf in the living area...This home belongs to his family, and they have spent many a summer day in these spacious rooms. Having read four of his books several years ago, actually being in the Feiler house thrilled me more than I can describe.
