Welcome to Kiahuna Plantation 304, on Kauai's sunny Poipu Beach area. Our ground floor Royal Garden unit has one of the best views of the historic Moir Cactus Garden created by an early sugar plantation manager's wife in the 1930's. This exquisite garden has been listed as a top 10 worldwide garden in its category.

Before getting into a detailed description of our beautiful Kauai condo, it is important that all Rental Inquiries Contact Owner about Rate Updates!!! They Vary Seasonally. In addition, Building 38, which houses our Kiahuna 304, was constructed on the side of a small hill over looking the Moir Gardens. As a result, access to all ground floor units in Building 38 actually involve first going up three stairs and then down eight more to reach the entrances of these ground floor units. If this is a problem due to some sort of physical impairment, prospective guests should look elsewhere for a ground floor unit.

As for our unit, it is located in building 38, only a 4 to 5 minute walk thru beautiful orchid and cactus gardens to one of the top 10 rated beaches in the United States (Travel Channel, 2011) and the world (Forbes, 2011). Paradise is yours in this delightfully colorful and bright unit, which underwent a complete bathroom remodel in 2011 with a new tiled shower, new vanity with granite countertop, and new mirrors and recessed lighting. Other updated features were new paint, reupholstered Hawaiian furniture, new Cal-King bed, upgraded interior decor, new electric stove, microwave, refrigerator/freezer, new CD stereo sound system with I-Pod/I-Phone deck, new computer desk and chair, two new flatscreen TV's with Blu-Ray disk player and a closet full of boogie boards, snorkel gear, swim goggles, beach toys (for the little ones), beach chairs, beach umbrellas and beach coolers. The condo is very clean, comfortable and in easy walking distance to nice restaurants and cocktail lounges. A new gas barbeque island (two grills) is only about 60 feet out the front door for those (like myself) that love to grill things.

Kiahuna Plantation is the only beachfront resort in Poipu. Most of the other nearby luxury hotels reside on beaches with little sand and lots of sharp and abrasive lava rock. The white sand beach (sometimes complete with Monk seals and sea turtles), is backed by green lawns, palm trees and tropical gardens and is a perfect place to relax or enjoy swimming, snorkeling, boogie-boarding, surfing or reading in the shade under the palm trees. Towels and chairs are complementary at the beach-side activity hut. Even though our condo provides some beach friendly equipment which will save rental fees at the Beach Hut, it is important to keep them clean and in good shape after use so that they are available for future guests.

Condo 304 is rated high by our association for interior content and cleanliness and features a king-sized bed with a very comfortable mattress, a queen sleeper/sofa, the already noted new stereo system and computer station, two flatscreen TVs including one in the bedroom (larger screen in the living room), Blu Ray disk player and free Wi-Fi internet. We have also added an aerobed and Pack N Play crib/playpen to give our guests with families more sleeping options. This Royal Garden unit also has a full kitchen for those who like to cook their own meals and save money for the more important stuff (i.e. visiting the many island attractions). The kitchen has all new kitchenware and utensils, a nice big refrigerator/freezer (purchased in 2014) with ice maker, an amazingly quiet dishwasher, an over-the-stove microwave (new in 2015), and two coffemakers. Other amenities include an interior dining room table with four chairs, the comfortable sofa-sleeper with two equally comfortable side chairs, a large coffee table with two end tables and a huge lanai (160 square feet). The entire unit contains ceramic tile flooring which is really cool on your feet and comfortable on hot days. Ceiling fans are located over the bed in the bedroom and between the living and dining rooms. The absolutely fabulous lanai, that overlooks the Moir Cactus Garden, includes a table with four chairs and two lounge chairs with an accompanying table. The world famous Moir Cactus Garden attracts many colorful species of Hawaiian birds (some of which are quite friendly) while also discouraging use by the resident Kauai roosters that don't understand the term 'quiet hours' in other parts of Kiahuna Plantation. This fact, along with the condo's position away from Poipu Road results in a very quiet and relaxing setting.

Building 38, that houses condo 304, is located right across the street from the entrance to the Poipu Shopping Village with its many shops, a general store, and nice eating establishments. The latter includes renowned establishments such as Keoki's Paradise, Papalani's Gelato and Puka Hawaiian Dogs. About 100 feet out the front door of the condo is the very convenient Plantation Garden restaurant and lounge. Just a short stroll down the beach is the Marriott and Sheraton which also have restaurants and cocktail lounges which are open to Kiahuna Plantation vacation renters. The Sheraton also holds a sunset luau right on the beach every Monday and Thursday night. Kiahuna Plantation 304 fully embodies the famous real estate saying of location, location, location.

We also want to let Kiahuna 304 guests know that they have full access to all of the amenities of the Poipu Beach Athletic Club when you stay at our condo! Besides the awesome swimming pool and great tennis courts, the Club includes an indoor/outdoor fitness center with 14 cardio machines and a complete weight lifting circuit with 16 different machines to work the entire body. The grounds also contain shuffleboard and pickle ball courts and a new (2015) concert amphitheater. A new Bar and Grill names Hapas can also be found at the PBAC.

About Michael Belowich

My wife and I are just regular people who have spent our working lives in the Great State of Alaska. However, we are addicted to Hawaii from our numerous visits there and have officially relocated to Hawaii (Hilo side of the Big Island of Hawaii). I am a semi-retired consulting geologist and my wife works in the transportation industry. We fell in love with Kauai and Kiahuna Plantation many years ago during an anniversary vacation. We vowed that if an opportunity to purchase one of these fabulous old plantation-style condos at Kiahuna arose, we would jump in with both feet. Well that opportunity arose and we have been getting our feet wet since 2011.

The need to find some vacation place away from the hustle and bustle that often characterizes many places in the lower 48 states and the more populous islands of Hawaii. Having spent 34 years in Alaska, we are quite familiar with vacationers, from cruise ship passengers to the adventurous souls that drive up the Alcan Highway each summer. We understand what people like and dislike and we continue to strive to meet the high standards that visitors expect as we would ourselves whenever we vacation away from home. Kiahuna 304 and Kiahuna Plantation is such a place. We know that future guests will love our condo and the island of Kauai as we already do.

What makes this condo unique

The obvious answer here would seem to be the invigorating tropical climate, having spent so many years just south of the Arctic Circle, where 70 degree days are often few and far between. But it is much more than that. We love the relaxing, laid back atmosphere, the quiet, the friendliness of the Kauai residents and the too many to mention attractions, both scenic and historic. It is almost impossible to not have a good time on Kauai!

Super Garden Location - Poipu Beach

This unit is in the middle of Kiahuna Plantation and Bungalows - close to the beach, restaurants, and shopping. You can walk or drive - your choice. Beach chairs in the condo for your use. Breezy unit with ceiling fans make for a tropical feel in Paradise.

We had a great time and really enjoyed our stay at the Kiahuna Plantation. The owners were always prompt in answering my emails before we arrived and during our stay. The unit was clean and well-stocked with all the things you could need for a comfortable and fun vacation. We would definitely recommend staying here!

Great time on Kauai at the Kiahuna Plantation!

We loved the island of Kauai! What made our experience on the island so great was we had an amazing place to stay! The unit was clean and spacious and met all of our needs! The overall property was great too! The Poipu area was a great jumping of location to get to everywhere on the island! The beach was great and the nearby amenities were great! The unit even had boogie boards, beach chairs/umbrella, and snorkel equipment. There was also laundry onsight. I also enjoyed that we had easy access to a walkway along the ocean where we could go for morning walks/runs! All these little things added up to an amazing experience! We also loved the Lanai! We ate many meals on it! I was also impressed with the great correspondence from Michael and Miriam! They provided great information about the unit, where to get groceries, and recommendations for things to see and do in and around the island! Thank you for a great stay!

Beautiful grounds, comfortable space

Overall we really enjoyed our stay at Kiahuna Plantation. The grounds are really nice to walk around in and the beach right on site is a great perk. The host was quick to communicate and gave us lots of recommendations for things to do in the Poipu area. Check in/out with the Castle company was easy and parking for our unit was right out front. We also appreciated how the host left us lots of beach needs - chairs, snorkel gear, and beach games for kids (not that we have any!). Why not 5 stars? Well, for starters, we were twice woken up by the sprinkler system going on outside our door at 4am or 5am each morning. It is surprisingly loud. Also loud was the cleaning crew in the unit upstairs from us cleaning at 7:45am. It sounded like they were throwing the furniture around for over an hour. Really unnecessary I think. The beach is extremely kid-friendly, too much so for us at times where we found ourselves craving a quiet, open beach (we went to Polihale one day and found it there but that is a trek!). Aside from these things, the unit is quiet and the area is quiet. It has everything you need to cook and live for a few days. The bed is comfortable, the lanai is large, and the fans are all you need to cool off at night. I know no place is perfect but when you are in Hawaii you want it to be!

We try our best to ensure that all the things guests need during their stay is readily available. Unfortunately, we have no control over the actions of the plantations maintenance and landscaping crews. It does seem unreasonable that these actions, at least during your stay, occurred at less than desirable times. During our previous stays, the outside activities usually didn't commence until 8 AM and I have never heard of cleaning crews at that time of the morning, I will try to find out why this occurred while on the property in about 10 days. Again, thank you for your review and we hope you come back someday, and maybe stay a bit longer.

Unclean, stuff broken

DVD player didn't work, bedroom door fell off hinges first time trying to close it, a ton of dead mosquitos on the end table, refrigerator leaked water all over our groceries, a bunch of stuff to make coffee except coffee filters, signs on doors asked us to remove shoes to follow Hawaiian tradition and feet were black, with dirt stuck to them within 10 min. We all, including my baby, had to wear socks or shoes all day/night. I took photos to shoe how bad it was. That's just the unit. The complex charges $10 to simply get clean towels, the washer/dryer are inconveniently located in a building on the other side of the property and the pool is across the street, past Poipu shopping center. Needless to say we were glad to check out after only 2 days and move over to Lawai Beach Resort. The owners were easy to rent from and sent great Kauai information would be helpful for a first time visitor.

Owner's Response: Hi April, Thank you for your frank review. My wife and I are very sorry that your short stay with us was not up to par. Obviously, Castle housekeeping and maintenance did not perform up to their normal capabilities. Two of the items, bedroom door and refrigerator were items that should have been fixed by now. This is the first I heard of the DVD player and coffee filter problems. The other cleanliness items are supposed to be cleaned prior to guest arrivals. Be assured that I will take this up with Castle Resorts immediately. This is our first negative review in our six years of ownership. This is unacceptable and it will be rectified. Unfortunately, it is too late for you, Paul and little Noah. Enjoy the rest of your Kauai visit and again, we offer you and family our sincere apologies. Mike & Mariam Belowich

Lovely Condo

This lovely well maintained condo is meticulously clean, nicely painted, well furnished and decorated with charming Hawaiian art. The bedroom has a very comfortable king size bed, ample bureau and closet space is available and a safety box is provided. Many comforts of home are provided plus beach accessories and water toys. The lanai overlooks the cactus garden and many birds can be seen and heard chirping in the morning. The ocean front beach is a short pleasant walk away. In addition, a shopping center is conveniently located within walking distance and includes restaurants, convenient stores and many shops. The owners demonstrated excellent customer service, providing us with formation on how to easily locate the condo and recommended activities we might enjoy. This condo was conveniently located to many sites of interest. We particularly enjoyed going to Waimea Canyon and taking a Napoli Coast dinner cruise with Capt. Andy. Without reservation, we recommend this lovely condo.

The condo has a full kitchen for cooking meals and saving money, with an outdoor barbecue close to the unit for those who prefer that grilled taste. Fabulous Poipu Beach, nice restaurants and cocktail lounges, gift shops, a general store, pool and fitness facility, tennis courts and a golf course within walking distance.
