Wonderful Beach Home for Our Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful week at the Legacy Home for our annual family reunion over the 4th of July week! The beach, decks and views from the house are AMAZING!! The kids spent countless hours on the beach and in the water...the sand was so nice and the water was warm! The house is very well equipped and furniture in the family room looking out on Lake Michigan was particularly nice. The house is perfect for large or multiple families due to its layout with four bedrooms and two baths upstairs, a master on the first floor and two bedrooms in the basement with two queens in each. We had 20 people in our group (10 adults and 10 kids) and never felt cramped for space. There is an air hockey table and foosball table in the great room in the basement which was a nice alternative when the kids got tired of the sun. There is also a nice lawn area between the house and the decks overlooking the water which the kids used to play wiffle ball every afternoon and evening. Lots to do in Holland/Saugatuck/Grand Haven/Grand Rapids too. Mike is great to work with on the renting of the house too. He gave us a lot of the history of their family and the house. Thanks for sharing your great vacation home with us and we will be back soon!!

Perfect location for a family reunion

  • 5 of 5

We had three generations of our family staying here over the Labor Day weekend - from different parts of the country. The three story house is so spacious that everyone had plenty of room to mingle and with 7 bedrooms there was an abundance of overnight sleeping options. With none of us having been to Lake Michigan before, the view was the most impressive thing about this location. We are already planning for a longer stay next year.

Family Gathering Place

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place to enjoy family and it is a well maintained house. Lots of room to gather, eat, and sleep with multiple families. The Sunsets can't be beat and there is a view of the lake from all the bedrooms. The living room and kitchen area was awesome for gathering lots of people and entertaining. It was absolutely perfect for our graduation weekend and tulip festival activities. LOVE THIS PLACE.

Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

Ten women in one house for a week...and it was wonderful the entire time! We have stayed in the Holland area for the past five years, but this was our first year at Legacy Home. We have already booked the house again for next year; there is NO PLACE like it on Lake Michigan.

The spacious rooms, beds for everyone, five bathrooms, and the location are all reasons to rent this fabulous home. The owners are easy to work with; they were very accommodating and prompt when any assistance was needed.

The home is clean and comfortable, the grounds are well-kept, and the view of Lake Michigan is outstanding--from just about every room in the house.

Please don't rent the week after Labor Day--we ten gals will be returning for many, many years at that time! But don't hesitate to book a rental for all other dates; you will be very glad you did.

Perfect for family gathering!

  • 5 of 5

We held a large family reunion at Legacy Home over Thanksgiving week and found the house to be great for our needs....plenty of room with 3 levels for both quiet and privacy, as well as living space that could hold the whole gang for a formal photo or football. The view of sunsets over Lake Michigan or of kids making snowballs in the sand was magnificent. But best of all, for this family of cooks, was the large open kitchen with plenty of counter space and cupboards. We were constantly and comfortably gathered around the island, making pies, gingerbread houses, and competing turkeys. When there was a glitch, the owner was readily available by phone and took care of our concerns. The only small missing element was a backup fridge....with everything so spacious, we could have used more cold storage. We highly recommend Legacy House for a fun family gathering.

Construction will take place next door during 2014; Generally poor experiece

  • 1 of 5

Construction will begin shortly on a large house next door (about 10-15 feet away from Legacy Home. It may impact your peaceful enjoyment of the property. We stayed during the week an older house next door was demolished which significaly impacted our ability to enjoy the property. The owner did not inform us of this (although the owner of the new house told us that he was informed weeks in advance) and offered no compensation. The owner may not have informed upcoming guests that their stay might be impacted by this new construction.

Good aspects of the property: access to beach, decks overlooking the lake, nice lawn on the lake side of the property.

Poor aspects of the property: only one of the bedrooms is a master; none of the other bedrooms have bathrooms; the interior of the house is quite dated; the kitchen was inadequately stocked for a large group which means that on a number of occassions we ran out of large dinner plates; only 5 wine glasses exist and all of them are plastic; the non-stick pans appear to be very old and are terribly scratched up, the dishwasher appears to be well over 20 years old and the range periodically didn't work well (also the stovetop light stayed on perminately); while we were there, the electricity and lights in the bathrooms upstairs went out; dog feces covered the front yard when we arrived, however none was found in the backyard; cell phone usage is pretty poor in this location; no beach equipment is available.

Owner's Response: Legacy Lake Home offers a beautiful location, a spacious & well-built home with gorgeous views of Lake Michigan. It is important that our guests enjoy the home, the property, & the area. We do our best to take care of any problems that may arise for our guests. Most all of our guests are& repeat renters! The home’s interior and exterior is accurately described on VRBO but also has the bonus of having two air-conditioning and heating systems allowing renters may close windows when needed. And yes, the home was built just over 20 years ago but it is a very secure and well-built home. As described on VRBO, Legacy Lake home has 7 bedrooms & 5 bathrooms of which one is in the master suite. As far as beach equipment goes, it is not offered for rent & that was communicated well in advance of their stay. The owner of the next door “construction” property did not give the booking agent advance notice of future renovations as this client suggests. It is unfortunate that this client seemed to have ulterior motives when writing this review by demanding a partial refund as the result of an event on another property. When the renter called regarding the oven, a repair person arrived within an hour of the call. Because the family was enjoying the beach, the repair person returned the following day to find nothing wrong with the stove or oven. The circuit breaker that was tripped was in one of the upstairs bathroom has never been tripped by any other client prior to or after their visit. Additionally, the lawn was mowed on the day of the guest’s arrival, and pets are not allowed, so there should not have dog feces on the lawn. The guests who rented the week following this client wrote this to describe their stay… “On behalf of my family, I want to thank you for making your home in Holland, Michigan available to us. Fourteen of us – three generations of blended families, from ages 70 years to 20 months - had a marvelous vacation. The house was more impressive than even the website photographs suggested. Every day, someone would comment on how lovely your home is. Even though our clan included non-married singles as well as small children, every one of us had spacious and comfortable sleeping arrangements (we brought air mattresses for the 5-year-old twin girls). The beach was everything we hoped for. The view of Lake Michigan from the sun decks, part
