Located in gentrifying neighborhood which has plusses and minuses. The space itself was really cool - rehabbed school. The apartment was also pretty cool.
Friends of ours have a long-term apartment in this newly renovated old school building with cool architectural features. Sosuite, which has some short-term rentals there, was great at communicating and very responsive when we reported the TV didn't work and the place was very cold and we could not get it warm despite the heaters on high. Both situations were rectified the next day. However, extra blankets in the unit should be standard. The furnishings are basic and adequate, the beds and pillows are comfortable, and I appreciated having a desk to set up my laptop. The kitchen is minimally appointed with few utensils, no hot water kettle, no strainer, but sufficient for a short stay when mainly eating out. The location is at the edge of a depressed neighborhood and an up-and-coming, delightfully multi-cultural area with some good restaurants. We were told not to be careful if going out after 9pm. Parking is a real challenge, with two-three hour maximums for spots during the day. However, overnight parking can be found on the street between 8pm to 7am. My kids enjoyed the huge lounge area on the main floor with a pool table, ping pong, and fooseball. The front desk staff and people in the building were friendly. I give a thumbs up for a short stay.
My family & I came home for a short time for a sad occasion. When I saw the school that so many of my friends attended had been turned into lofts, I immediately jumped on the opportunity to stay here for the history of the building itself. My mom & aunt's were graduates of West Catholic for Girls & I graduated from Overbook so the architecture of the building automatically drew me in. We rented 2 units so we could spread out comfortably. The rental itself is very tastefully decorated & clean when we arrived. We booked very last minute but response from the property management was super quick. We were provided instructions on everything we needed to gain access to the units, WiFi & checkout. We stayed in units 344 & 351. Once you arrive, you have to be let into the building by the security/concierge, but once you access your unit, a key fob for building access is provided.
The queen bed was smaller than our king bed but very comfortable. We found either a washer or washer dryer combo in the closet of the loft bedroom along with a few hangers. A Keurig with a nice assortment of kpods & condiments were handy for morning coffee. There's a 7-Eleven a block/short walk away for a quick trip for forgotten essentials.
Our only issue during our stay was the heating & cooling system would go off in the night making for a very cold trip to the bathroom, which is on the lower level of the loft. Towels were provided but a bath mat wasn't so we had to lay paper towels down for our shower so the floor wasn't slick with water & the towel bar was broken but we're not fussy so we made due.
The huge windows and the interior hallways of the building reminded me of my classrooms and we really enjoyed the common area with the game tables and the leather furniture. Along with the vintage & antique pieces throughout the large room with floor to ceiling glass walls, it was pretty nostalgic and I loved it. My family enjoyed seeing the pictures I took & was amazed. I only wished there were photos or a map of what each space was in it's former life & Being from West Philly, I knew the area & how to navigate it & the parking situation but if you're not familiar, there's only on-street parking on a 1st come basis. Just pay attention to the signs posted so you have no worries with being booted or towed. Trust me, you don't want that. Over all, I definitely enjoyed our stay here & would certainly stay again.
