About the property

House, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 1-2)

Our 1904 adobe home was remodeled in 2007 with a focus on comfort. Thinking of the desert we recently added solar hot water heating for winter time comfort. The south facing balcony gives you a lovely view of the beautiful canyon, the surrounding mountains, and locals walking to and from the art galleries, live theater and varied restaurants in historical downtown Old Bisbee. The upstairs($100/night for at least two nights, $150 for a single night, $500wk) Sun Country Guest House has a large lovely living room with western accents and art, a 4-6 person eat-in kitchen that has a window view of the desert behind. A bench can be seen from the table. Walk on up the path carefully and check out the view. Please stay on the pathes. The bathroom with shower and toilet and reading materials bedroom is sunny and private. The bedroom is bright with good blinds so one might sleep in. The queen bed has organic linens, feather pillows, wool and down blankets. Relax on our leather loveseat and chair. Read a book on our green velvet fainting couch or just rest and look out the window. Sit on our outdoor lounge chairs or rockers and watch the birds while you enjoy our canyon views and sunsets from the balcony. Watch DVD movies on our 42-inch flat panel TV. There are movies provided, which we update regularly for you folks that return to Old Bisbee. Enjoy our backyard desert and deck with propane grill, 4 wrought iron chairs and and glass topped table.

It's 5 minute walk to gourmet cafe and store, that serves all 3 meals of the day and has 1 gluten free pizza day, order ahead . We also have a food cooperative that I like to support as it brings in organic food. Take the bus it is easy and near. You'll find many fascinating details about southwestern plants, history, geology and folklore in our library of books on the Southwest. Romantic hikers, music lovers, hikers, birders, LGBT (Go Utah!) and bicycle riders are welcome. There's even a place to lock your bike.

Take a 10 minute walk to the heart of our historical, artsy town, take a gander of the 100 year old library. Check out the interior of the bank. Explore the very cool stores in our old buildings. Every store has a story and is very friendly to folks interested. We have some fine antiques stores, some great artisan shops, which feature many nationally known artists. Dine in an elegantly restored historic hotel or one of Arizona's most fabulous restaurants. Check out our homemade beers or the dark cool bars, there is one for everyone. There is a bus that stops near Sun Country and goes to surrounding areas. I recommend it. Take a tour through the Bisbee copper mine, once the largest in the U.S. Ride your bikes on our friendly streets. Wherever you go, you're sure to enjoy meeting the colorful characters who call Bisbee home.

Use our home as your base to explore the southwest desert, run a race or hike to the tops of nearby mountains. There are state parks within 30 minutes of town. Don't forget to make your reservation for a tour of the spectacular Karchner caverns. Birders will be amazed to watch the sand hill cranes swoop down to feed in a local lagoon, sit on the balcony or watch the tree fill with turkey vultures, just across the way. Kick back and relax in our quaint little western town. Perfect for anyone looking for a warm and sunny winter vacation in a charming town.

For two couples or a family please see our other listing at the same address Sun Country Studio(listing #356152)

Keywords: House with balcony, mountain and canyon views, a private deck off of the kitchen, with grill, table and chairs, 1 bedroom, living room, bathroom with shower, a fully equipped eat-in kitchen. Cute.

About sarahdorrance

We are bicyclists and hikers and have enjoyed Bisbee and Tucson for years. One of us has a gluten allergy, both of us love good food and have been glad to find accommodations for dietary needs in Bisbee.

sarahdorrance purchased this house in 2011

Why sarahdorrance chose Tucson & Southern Arizona

We love Old Bisbee! It is one of our favorite places on Earth. We love the ease of taking day trips from Old Bisbee, the desert, its uniqueness, the great food and people, architecture, history, the art. We love Pride and appreciate that folks may come to Old Bisbee, AZ and be joined. And it's a great get away!

What makes this house unique

Sun Country Guest House has a balcony with an awesome south facing view of the canyon. It is just a 5 minute walk to gourmet cafe/store and pizza and drinks. A 10 minute walk to historical downtown Old Bisbee shops, fabulous restaurants, good wine and local beer and art.

Guestbook comments from the owner

After staying at the lower level studio for a weekend get-away, we decided it would be the perfect place to bring some of the family and celebrate my birthday. We rented both the house and studio and can say that everyone had a great time and loved the property. We all felt immediately at home - it was truly designed with an eye for comfort. I must say that having so many great spaces - indoors and out - is the way to go when with family! The streetside porch with wonderful views of the canyon and mountains is the perfect spot to both bird and people watch. The private back patio with gas barbeque off the kitchen is a great gathering spot while the lower (studio) deck is a cozy retreat to put your feet up and relax. My 7 year old granddaughter especially loved the vintage wall-mounted hand-crank coffee grinder and was the official coffee grinder for our stay. My grandson brought his skateboard and happily skated ahead as the rest of us footed it around Bisbee. We ordered a delicious enchilada casserole that was still hot when we arrived our first night there. It was really nice to arrive and have the main course ready and waiting. My birthday celebration was the best and Sun Country is the perfect place and location to enjoy all that Bisbee has to offer.

Quiet, comfortable and a short walk to town!

  • 5 of 5

We visited Bisbee for the first time last weekend and had a fabulous stay in the main (upstairs) unit at Sun Country Guest House. The location is perfect, with High Desert Market and Café (for breakfast and groceries), Screaming Banshee Pizza (for lunch) or the Bisbee Royale (for dinner or a movie) all just a five-minute walk away, and the rest of the many sights of Old Bisbee just ten minutes further east. If you don’t feel like walking into town on a given morning, then you can sit on the peaceful front porch and enjoy the sounds of birds chirping and the sun-dappled views of the surrounding hillsides ...

Aside from its ideal location, we also appreciated the cozy bedroom, the spacious kitchen, and the newly renovated bathroom in the upstairs unit. Overall, we found the property to be quiet, comfortable, and easily accessible, whether driving from Tucson or walking into town. We would recommend it without hesitation to anyone who is planning to visit Bisbee, especially for the first time.

Kitchen well equipped. Living room crowded and dark. Bed and bath fine. Clean. Convenient location to good restaurants in town. Don't miss Roka Café, The Table and Banshee Pizza, all well above average to excellent. Unit needs DVD instruction...red light means off, no light means on. To select input for DVD, don't select the two DVD inputs, but choose the Games input to watch DVDs. Duh!

Owner's Response: So glad you found the location perfect for your downtown forays, the sunny kitchen well equipped and the bath and bed to your liking. Thanks for the feedback about the DVD and we apologize that the directions were not clearly written in our book. The property manager Sarah, did not mind coming up to help with the confusion, she was glad you called and glad you figured it out. We will add directions to our house book for future guests. The large sunny balcony does shade the windows of the adobe living room keeping it, "yes" dimly lit, but enjoyable and cool in the summer months.

Cozy, clean, close to town, wonderfuly appointed, everything you could want or need and more

  • 5 of 5

Such a nice place, the owner was a pleasure to work with and the property manager was super. If stairs are a challenge for you I wouldn't recommend this property, but if they aren't its certainly worth it. Comfy porch, walk to old Bisbee, fully equipped kitchen and a short walk to the little market. We hit up the Farmers Market in "new Bisbee" on Sat morning and cooked a nice meal. Reach for the stars. Namaste

Owner's Response: I am so glad you both enjoyed your stay! We strive to make it a place that really has the things one needs and looks good. There are quite a few short rise stairs to climb to get to the balcony, house and view, I am glad they weren't an issue for you. Come again, we would love to have you. Thanks for the taking the time to give a lovely review, Sun Country Guest House

There are many outdoor activities in the desert year around. Some of my favorites are sitting on the balcony and bird watching, with the beverage of my choice. There are many different birds to be seen. The hiking is wonderful, whether you want to walk the many stairs and explore Old Bisbee that way or just start walking West on Tombstone Canyon road, walk past the entrance to the highway and keep on walking. You will arrive at a great place to see the lay-out of the area. This is a street walk. The road becomes unused except by folks who live in the area and then becomes unused at all. It takes me about an hour or so round trip. The hour does not include the hanging out time. There is shopping in very cool and inviting places, many restaurants, with very good food and wine, beer and cocktails and many different types of food to choose from. There are cool dark bars to try out, some have food. We have many local beer making places to experience while you visit. Old Bisbee has a community seasonal pool that is incredibly nice, with a slide. It is a good place to have a lot of folks gather for a big meal. Tombstone is less than an hour away. Stop on your way in or on your way out. Go to the Lavender Pit, it's cool to see what was seen and understand the history of the area. There is a Smithsonian exhibit up in our local museum, also informational. See the changes time makes. And if you just want to relax Sun Country Guest House is a great place to for it.
