Lovely spot

  • 3 of 5

Overall our stay was very nice. Location and house are lovely. Home is well appointed with most everything you would need. Accommodated 5 adults comfortably. We ran into an issue with access to the home which tainted some of the family's opinion of home. Once the owners were made aware of the issue, they responded immediately. Problem was it was late at night and they lived far away. We happened to be there Thanksgiving weekend 2017 and the weather was more than perfect. Saw tons of bunnies and we saw 2 deer on the road leading to the cottage Also spotted a pretty large woodpecker and an osprey. I would recommend this house. Owner shared that they are upgrading their access protocol. They agreed to only charge us for a one night stay rather than two nights.

Owner's Response: We have revised our check in to avoid this issue we encountered with Nancy's party. We had an electronics failure, it happens to all of us. We now ask Guests to check-in before 8pm to allow for response time if there is an issue. If this party had checked in at a reasonable time there wouldn't have been any issue, we would have had time to respond and provide the evening's access to the property. Calling us on Thanksgiving night, a holiday, at 11 pm was a difficult request to answer and let the party in so late. We drove down at midnight for them because our electronic entry key pad was malfunctioning; we tried to provide above and beyond response service. We're happy that they thought our house was lovely.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review Scott, we're always sorry when the weather doesn't cooperate but a little out of our control :) to provide good weather to determine a pleasant stay. We received kind words from Scott on his early arrival of liking the house (it's great) and property when it was sunny. They were good guests and left the house well cared for. Kind Regards, Susan

Beautiful Upper Mill Mond Home

  • 5 of 5

We have been renting this property for the past seven years and we can't say enough good things about it! Susan and Sol have been the perfect owners - providing a beautiful, well- stocked home while respecting our privacy. The view of the pond from the deck is so relaxing and the water is perfect for swimming, canoeing and kayaking (which are provided). There is a gas grill, a big lawn with a large hammock, and lovely flowers. The house affords privacy, yet is convenient to everything the cape has to offer. The inside of the house is air conditioned and has some very nice decorative touches. The kitchen features an island that seats 6 comfortably and has a vintage-style gas stove. The master bedroom has a king size bed that is very comfortable. There are chairs, towels and everything one needs for the beach and a big ping-pong table in the basement. What else can you want?

Wishing I was there now...

The home was the perfect amount of space for us and our two children - 14 & 10. The owners take excellent care of the home and property. The lake was pristine and I miss my morning swims. Look forward to coming back.

About Susan Gist-Miller

2017 We just replaced a closet with a new 30"x60" shower with a sliding glass door on the First Floor in the half Bathroom. So now we have 2 indoor showers and one hot water outdoor shower. We've been making improvements every year, last year we added 2 more Bedrooms and a half Bathroom on the Second Floor. I framed the walls and built the renovation myself!

Susan Gist-Miller purchased this house in 2007

Why Susan Gist-Miller chose West Brewster

The property has a long family history, good happy summer memories. We rebuilt this house in 2007 after the property had been left as a foundation for 15 years. The view is of a large fresh water pond with spectacular west facing sunsets. The breeze is usually blowing toward the house for a relaxing and pleasant feeling.

What makes this house unique

The antique gas stove has the perfect size for roasting a 15lb.+/- turkey, I've cooked an 18lb turkey Thanksgiving twice in this stove and the turkey was evenly cooked and juicy. The oven is smaller than the standard in width so the turkey was more evenly heated.

We have seating for 8 at the table and 4 more at the adjacent island. We also set up the island with a multi-dish buffet assortment of Thanksgiving food that we prepared, including using a three dish slow cooker kept at the house. Keep the family together with a multi night sleep over and enjoy going for a canoe or kayak ride for the kids while the meal is being prepared.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Posted from guest's email:

We stayed 2 weeks in August 2017 at 9 Frank D Lawrence Rd. We are a family of 6 and the house comfortably accommodated all of us. The setting is perfect, on the beautiful, tranquil Upper Mill Pond. There is a deck out back with a table and seating for 6. There is a full sized grill as well. There are 2 kayaks available for your use which is a perfect way to explore the pond. The hammock was enjoyed by everyone. The house is fully loaded...all of the kitchen items you could imagine and everything was in very good condition, linens, towels (both bath and beach) and every cleaning item you could every need, including storage containers, storage bags, trash bags and hand soap. The addition of a shower in the downstairs bathroom was much appreciated.

Susan has thought of everything you could need. Everything is of excellent quality and in excellent shape. The house is exceptionally well maintained and clean! The house does not have central air but all of the bedrooms and the kitchen have a window unit and there are many ceiling fans which keeps the air moving on hot days. The location is just down the street from Punkhorn Conservation area which is great for runs and long walks. There is limited space right by the lake.. we brought a 10ft blow up seating area which made sitting on the water very enjoyable. I highly recommend you bring something like that if you want to spend time on the lake. Susan is extremely responsive and does everything she can to make your stay pleasant. We would not hesitate to stay there again in the future.
